In this game's alternate timeline, guns are now rare and most soldiers fight unarmed, with one or two flamethrowers or rocket launchers per squad as support weapons.
I don't know why everybody says this guy is a pro. He walks 2 steps and waits forever to keep going. I've never seen anybody lose a life because it took too much time, but this guy did!. I played this game so much when I was 12 that I dreamed about it.
Growing up in the 80's, I always thought the name of this game was "Russian Attack" which made perfect sense at the time. This game came out during the height of the Cold War. the Reagan administration and Reagan's Star Wars defense plan against any real Russian attack and everything in the game appears to take place in the former Soviet Union. The only missing thing I don't see is the red U.S.S.R flag with the hammer, sickle and star. The red star they used to paint on their army vehicles is present throughout the game.
Well, it was a Japanese game developer (Konami) who made it so all they ever cared about that time was to make a game which would sell well worldwide. They cared absolutely nothing about world politics just to make kids play games. On most game consoles or computer ports it was called "Green Beret". In Japan (its native country) it was always called Green Beret and it was also named Green Beret in Europe. Star Wars was just an elaborate hoax as deliberate desinformation. It was a con but a dangerous one because at the time there was no guarantee the former Soviet Union would reform, collapse or become more extreme. You see the way the Soviet saw it the whole Star Wars defense program nullified the former MAD doctrine (mutual assured destruction) which meant nobody would be insane enough to start a war knowing they counterattack would doom them too. If Star Wars worked then the Soviets feared they could be attacked at will and any counterattack of theirs would be completely useless. Now if the roles were changed it's fair to say the US would go absolutely ballistic knowing there would be such a threat. As a kid I cared absolutely nothing about who the enemies were just that they were enemies in a game.
When I was 10 - 12 years old I loose so much money..... Time Pilot, Gorf, Hyper Olimpics, M. Jacksons Moonwalker. I have finished every game from childhood but not a favorite. I think difficulty it's one of few advantages why we love old games. Today young players looks for realistic graphics, real physics or multiplayer options. They not understand why game that can be finished in 18 minutes excites us so much. I have 6 years old son and he plays on: frogger, pole position or Toki this means learning of manners :-) Happy new year. I will looking for your movies. Try road fighter I can race to half of game it's very hard but addictive. Thanks
Rafał Kotarba those years games were meant for amusement when u have nothing to do as a kid or elser after study and finished ur home work or having some indoor fun with friends or cousin or brothers and sister and now ots all about insane budget consoles and pcs where young gen are too much addicted and remain home for playing and playing then sleep in old time it wasnt like this
I remember finding this game solid as a kid, I will probably buy a new laptop soon with hd connection and give this one a go, I use to play the old coin ops a lot till my desktop broke!!

+sneekyweezel On level 3, you were taking your time on the top, was that for points? And also, was there a clock on the original version? I can't remember there being a clock, or don't remember dying from the clock, but I do remember being pinned down for a bit and they started sending those jump kicking ninja dudes and then eventually a jet that flew over and dropped a bomb on me because I took too long in one area.

The best game I played ever. It's very difficulty. Right now in last 100 plays I'm always came to half of 3rd level and die. Great play. You are pro.
