Hi ma’am , my son 9yes old is mild autistic now in grade 4 studying in a Montessori setup school . He is slow in academic . He has acquied speech , communication , and started with tabla and keboard lessons which has led to discover his interest in music plus he is creative and loves to create using LEGO .
Is it wise to switch over to conventional school for grade 5th and put him in more challenging environment or just continue with where he is now. Kindly give your valuable advise for my son .

If there are no behaviour issues and if you feel he can sustain in a group of people you can start sending him immediately.....
But as you said he is a slow learner.... You have to teach the lesson in advance so that the kids sit, listen and enjoy being in that environment.... When the child doesn't understand the class and feels bored, he will definitely show some or the other behaviour such as running away etc

@@ParentingAutisminHindi thank you soo much ma’am for your reply , it has given me clarity . In recent times there has been complaint from school about behaviour issues with my son and I find it at home too like by being high tempered , stubborn and disrespect others and not willing to do homework , basically very intelligent in grasping other things except academic and emotions ,in your experience what’s the best strategy to handle behaviour issues ?

Actually the symptoms of autism will be shown outside after the age of 2. Try to reduce his screen time n do follow the behaviour correction steps by giving clear expectation setting before anything you are asking the child to do. Also engage him in some activities so that he will not get bored . Make the child sit at one place n give some activity of his interest so that he is able to sit. Use mobile for short period n also for learning .

You actually do need an assessment.. and a diagnosis.. if you have a diagnosis it makes easier for you to understand what kind of help your daughter needs.. then you can connect with a good occupational therapist and speech therapist..
