She made me feel something I don’t want to feel. It’s hard to leave someone you still love.

I'm not sure Stephen or Dionne ever sounded better than here. Stephen is very active on his facebook now. Lots of great stories. He mentioned this appearance specifically. HIs appearance earlier in the 80's with Marilynn was fantastic too, but a totally different feel that this song when they did "On and On" and "Save it for a Rainy Day". They sound awesome together here.

That is a fabulous duet version with Dionne Warwick and Stephen Bishop, the songwriter. That is a pretty ballad. Since there is a solo version from "Solid Gold" with Dionne Warwick, I have to ask which was done first, her solo version or this duet version? Both are excellent. Stephen Bishop, previous to this song, I had associated with "On and On," from the late 1970s and "It Must Be You," the theme from the 1982 movie "Tootsie," as Dionne had referenced in the intro.
I wonder if the white light effects in the background were from the panaspots or dry ice for that white light in motion effect.
Beautifully blended voices that made for a nice duet. Thanks, Mr. Miller, for the upload! These are wow and great all rolled into one.

So glad you are enjoying the new uploads! Thanks for your kind words as always. I unfortunately don’t remember whether the duet version of this song aired first or the solo version. The tapes that I found the other day were unlabeled. Perhaps there is a database online and if you find out any of the details, feel free to let me know and I will add the information to these videos.

@@bigeyezzzzzzz You are welcome. If I come across a reliable online database of information about "Solid Gold" episodes and airdates, I will be sure to let you know right away. It would be nice to find an episode-by-episode guide for the show.

@@bigeyezzzzzzz I wonder if the smoky effects in this performance were from smoke machines. In the real old days, I believe that dry ice would be used for that kind of effect. Very nice special effects for "Solid Gold" and Dionne Warwick and Stephen Bishop.

@@jasonburger3533 Actual dates depended on where you were as it was syndicated. It was released I believe Friday but as you say most aired on Saturday or Sunday nights.

@@tvfan23 Thank you for your response. By you saying released, I believe that you mean that it was released by its syndicator at the time, Paramount Television, on Fridays to air on the weekend between Fridays and Sundays, with most stations choosing to air on Saturday nights when viewership was forecast to be high. The actual studio tapings were done about 3 weeks before they were aired, according to a source who had worked on the show in a prominent role.
It is a shame that in the modern era, both networks and syndicators have pretty much abandoned programming on Saturday nights. That began in the 2000s. There used to be a lot of popular shows on Saturday nights.

@@jasonburger3533 You are correct- syndicated weekly original shows have pretty much disappeared. Sports, news and sadly infomercials have taken the air time. Could never understand why infomercials would air on network stations during the day - all about money I guess.

    • @jasonburger3533

@@tvfan23 Yes, it has to be the financial factors. Infomercials on television did not exist until 1984, when Congress changed the laws. Nighttime was the era for them then, now daytime as well. Radio airs infomercials as well, mostly on weekends, but they tend to call it brokered programming. Even cable television that costs as a subscription service has long blocks of infomercials on premium channels.
Before infomercials, most television stations would go off the air late at night with sign-offs and then sign on the next morning. You probably know that if you lived through that era through the late 1980s. Some, but not many, television stations sign off for the night. However, infomercials are more lucrative than color bars, test patterns, and static.
They could make better use of their airtime, in my opinion. That would be more of a public service.

@@tvfan23I remember that date and this clip helps set the tone even more than before. The harmony, the lyrics, the melody, Stephen Bishop and his green blazer, and Dionne Warwick and her beautiful dress and hairstyle all converged to produce an Academy Award-quality performance, along with the musical arrangement, Michael, and the lighting effects. Excellent.
