    Here goes
The Canon 5D Classic, released in 2005, holds a special place in the hearts of many photographers for several reasons:
Full Frame Sensor: At the time of its release, the 5D Classic was one of the first affordable full-frame DSLRs, offering superior image quality and depth of field control compared to cameras with smaller sensors.
Image Quality: Its 12.8-megapixel sensor produced stunning images with excellent dynamic range and low-light performance, making it a favorite among professionals and enthusiasts alike.
Build Quality: The 5D Classic was built like a tank, featuring a robust magnesium alloy body that could withstand the rigors of professional use.
Legacy Glass Compatibility: Its compatibility with Canon's extensive lineup of EF lenses, including older manual focus lenses, meant that photographers could utilize a wide range of optics to achieve their desired look.
Affordability: While it was a high-end camera at its release, the 5D Classic became more affordable over time, making it accessible to a broader range of photographers who coveted its image quality and features.
Ergonomics and Controls: Canon's intuitive interface and ergonomic design made the 5D Classic comfortable to use for extended periods, allowing photographers to focus on capturing the moment rather than wrestling with complicated menus.
Cultural Impact: The 5D Classic played a significant role in shaping the digital photography landscape, influencing subsequent camera designs and setting a benchmark for image quality and performance.
In essence, the Canon 5D Classic is revered for its combination of exceptional image quality, solid build, and affordability, making it a beloved classic among photographers even years after its release.

Battery lid fits inside grip in a special holder so you never lose it.

You should make sure you have the updated firmware to handle larger CF cards. The mirror just needs 4 tiny drops of super glue if it falls off, mine fell off after many years and re-glued it several years ago with no problem at all and it has remained attached. I would not worry at all about the mirror being retrofit or whatever. The claim made by some videos that the mirror falling off was only for early models is not really accurate, so just assume all of them have a potential issue maybe. Without the updated firmware if you use a larger CF card, and most are larger, then when reviewing the images you may cause the card to fail. Not sure if it will fail while shooting a larger CF card with the old firmware but it happened to me while reviewing the images on the camera using a larger card; firmware update fixed it. The revised final firmware is out there somewhere, I found it but don't recall where.
I have had zero problems with removing and installing the CF cards, I don't know who these people are who can't do that safely but it is no big deal in that or any other camera I have with a CF card. So, don't get paranoid over pins and CF cards, just be sane in your usage and you will be fine.
It renders images quite nicely and does have a pleasant color palette. For Jpegs in landscape try jacking up the colors and such, it has a nice look to it. It is a camera for slow and deliberate work and if you have to shoot things that move, like people, you will have to really think about how it is best done, i.e. closing the aperture, focus trapping and the like. It is essentially the same focus system as on the Mark II and I have used that in a wedding and it was fine.
The 24-105 F4 L works nicely for almost everything, so I would get that with it if possible. I have not used manual focus lenses with it, so no idea how that may go.
    Best wishes!

@@unbroken1010 Surely you have heard of it? Focus trapping was common with film cameras, basically you know the zone that is in acceptable focus via the DOF provided by the marks on the lens relative to the F-stop, and you shoot when the subject is in the zone. Common thing. It allows you the use of various F-stops while considering the available light and ISO and shutter speed.

The "bumpers on the side of the mirror" were implemented by Canon on later iterations and retrofitted to the earlier ones until as late as 2015 as covered by warranty/ownership of a Canon 5d.

I bought a 5d classic when it come out. My old version had some focusing issues. At the time I had the 24-70 2.8, 70-200 f4 and 50mm f1.8. I couldn't get a sharp in focus image when shooting wide open so I ended up selling it because it doesn't allow in camera lens callibration. However, I did love the images coming from the camera that were in focus and at some point I will pick up another one. It's not all doom and gloom as I still have my Canon 5d mk III :)

I have a 5D Mkiii, 3 Mkiis, and had 2 5D classics. I gave one to a good friend because I enjoyed the experience of shooting such a simple camera with a sense r that rendered such beautiful images, especially with vintage glass. Of all my full frame cameras, If I'm going to be walking around just shooting whatever I happen across, I love to reach for the old classic. It's just such a pleasant photography experience. Is a Mk2 just a few bucks more and significantly more capable? Why of course, but shooting the 5d Classic is a great experience that warrants "cheaping out" if you will. Highly recommend for any beginner. It has everything you need, and noe of the frills that will distract, get in the way, or become a crutch to understanding technique and composition.

I believe some canon had green light focus while others had a red light confirm. I don't get why they switched it on models with no reason

i ordered D700 for low light indoor shots. planning on using it with DX Lens 35MM 1.8G . i saw it somewhere on TH-cam that says this combo works great as long as you keep your aperture below F/4.

Pro-tip: If you're looking to get a 5D Mk1, avoid getting one that comes with the battery grip and just buy that separately; most, not all, of the cameras sold with a battery grip were intended to be serious workhorses...

OP means the cameras sold with grips were likely used by working photographers that put a lot of miles on the camera. Don't let that put you off if it's a model with a serial number starting with 2 or higher.@@unbroken1010

@@robbellphoto it is hard to choose but the Nikon has a weather sealed body, built in flash, and can do 8fps with the battery grip. The Nikon has better AF and low light performance than the Canon. The LCD is superior to the Canon’s screen. It even does well with overexposed files. The Canon is more like shooting slide film. I didn’t buy it that long ago. I bought it like new in box, battery grip, plus a 50/1.4. I paid just under US $500. There are plenty of nasty examples for $300.

@@bngr_bngr For sure, there is no real competition between 5D and D700, 5D is just a good classic full frame and you can't go wrong with it if you have some good ef lenses. The D700 is a more modern and technically more superior camera.
