    The 5D is still a great camera, only now it's also a superb bargain. The 5D was for many years used very effectively for all the things people say it can't do. It's just 12.8 megapixels, but remember, 4k, the end all and be all of resolution, is just 8.3 megapixels. Yes, that's a video standard, but it's relevant as a sanity check. Having "just" 12.8 megapixels makes you work a bit harder, but boy does it reward when you do it right.

      "The 5D was for many years used very effectively for all the things people say it can't do."
      You absolutely nailed it, with this one. When "photographers" say that it can't be used for sports, wildlife, action, or low light because it is too slow and the ISO is limited - or that it can't be used for landscapes because it's low resolution - or it's not good for any professional work of any type because it only has one card slot, etc...
      ...I wince a bit and am at a loss for words. I guess nobody ever told any of that to all the fantastic photographers using this camera for all of those things (with great success) 15+ years ago.

      @CanoeToNewOrleans, If you don't need/want his 5D, I would be happy to pay a fair price for it if he would sell it to me. Skyler is my son, and I started him shooting on my Olympus E300 (I have had 5 of these) many, many years ago, and as time went by, I upgraded to the E30 (I had 5 of these, also), and then got into the E3 (I have had 5 of these, also) and now I have a couple of E5's and an old E3 that I use on any and all of my event photography gigs. Skyler took it so much further than I ever could afford to do, by knowing the details and essentials of a plethora of cameras, collecting them, and masterfully using them. I have so many lenses for my Olympus cameras, as well as CF cards, tons of batteries, etc. that it is not economically feasible to invest in any other brand of camera. However, after seeing so much praise coming from him on his channel over this classic, I decided that if I could find one that I could afford, hopefully with a couple of lenses, I would take a leap of faith and put my brand loyalty to the test. My name is Stephen King and I approve of this message. 😀(lol)

      I wish I knew people who wanted to gift me old cameras... especially if it was a 5D classic, lol. Honestly, it is not for everyone. I love the 5D classic, as many people do, but of course there are some people who really lean heavily on modern features and, for them, the 5D classic is simply "too old".

      Ha ha, well next time you're in Canada I'll introduce you to my friend. He's a photographer too so I'm sure you guys will get along. Jokes aside, he's on the same wave length as you and a lot of your viewers. He shoots professionally and has been using a 5D2 and a 100-400 Mark I for years. Not that long ago, he said not to get caught up in the fad of buying the latest gear - it's not necessary.@@SkylerKing

    Thank You. A lot. Great content. Its so hard to find publications like this these days. It reminds me how good the 5Dc, which I have, actually is. Im really motivated to pair it with 24-105/4L more often. Motivated to even take it to shooting more often, maybe along with 5D3 or 6D. Im subscribing your channel for a while and Im very thankfull that You mention Tokina 16-28/2.8 which i didnt know it exists (stunning lens man!). The only downside of combo 5Dc +16-28 is lack of in-body microcalibration AF. Have to use that lens with 6D or 5D3. Anyway 5Dc is great choise for those who want pro results in penny fraction of real value which this book proves.

      I have a lot of these old "Super Books" for various cameras. I love this type of stuff for a variety of reasons, but I have to admit that the later Super Books that covered more modern cameras are not nearly as good. Less creativity, almost no full page prints, very few side by side comparisons with other cameras, etc.
      I am curious, how far off is the focus with your 16-28mm when paired with the 5D? I wonder if it is just sample variation or what, as I have never noticed a problem when I pair mine (though, now I might do some pixel peeping for curiosities sake).

      @@SkylerKing its just noticable, especially in distance about 4-6m @f/2.8-4. Body confirms AF, but finally focus is behind object to infinity.
      The only way is to manual correct lens, but the clutch mechanizm always moves previously set focus that leads to refocus manually.
      6D and 5D3 - no problem, microcalibration done, works fine.

When I first got into photography and bought a full frame camera, I started talking to him about all the features it had he laughed at me and said Jeff. I don't even know how many megapixels my camera is. It was either a 5D classic or a 5D Mark. 2. He's been all around the world up until this year and is now in semi-retirement. Shooting sports with a 400/2.8 or 600/4.0 you might have a tight shot that people think it was cropped. It’s just the way it was. Even when I have the luxury of cropping in I like to crop in tight. The skater having his foot his foot cut off is not a big deal. One we don’t know who cropped the picture nor do we know if that’s how the photographer edited the picture to fit the editorial space.

    • @SkylerKing
      @SkylerKing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you make this comment before you heard what I said about it? Because I said;
      "Of course, _I_ _am_ _not_ _going_ _to_ _negatively_ _judge_ _this_ _photographer_ . _He_ _got_ _the_ _shot_ _that_ _I_ _never_ _got_ . But, as *just* *a* *personal* *gripe* - _this_ _is_ _a_ _great_ _shot_ but I see that the one foot is cut off. Me, personally, it drives me crazy. I have refused to print or publish so many photos because one little finger tip isn't quite in the frame, or half of the foot is out of the frame. To me, it just ruins the *aesthetics* of the shot, overall. Obviously, _this_ _is_ _still_ _a_ _great_ _shot_ . But if I had taken this shot, I'd be kicking myself for not getting that foot in the frame. Though, of course with his framing as you can see, _if_ _he_ _had_ _been_ _any_ _further_ _to_ _the_ _right_ _to_ _get_ _the_ _foot_ , _he_ _would_ _have_ _cut_ _off_ _the_ _hand_ . So, _I_ _guess_ _this_ _was_ _the_ _better_ _choice_ . _It_ _was_ _a_ _fixed_ _focal_ _length_ , _400mm_ , _so_ _it's_ _not_ _like_ _he_ _could_ _zoom_ ."
      I praised the shot and his ability to get it. I agreed that given what he was working with, he made the right choice. I just said that when I notice I have cut off a foot or finger in one of my photos, it bothers me.

    Dreadful dynamic range. Riddled with that famous magenta colour noise. It was a "classic" alright..........😢

    • @SkylerKing
      @SkylerKing  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I actually did a whole video talking about it, since it seems to be trendy to always mention the "limited dynamic range" anytime the 5D Classic is discussed... Despite the fact that the dynamic range is actually better than a lot of newer cameras, more expensive cameras, and even some medium format cameras.

  • @52701970
    @52701970 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Unfortunately, the 5d did not have auto ISO, which is a big deal if you are outside shooting sports and there are changes in light. Also it did not have good dynamic range. I am not comparing this to modern cameras. I chose the Nikon d700 which was better in many ways. Just my two cents.

    • @SkylerKing
      @SkylerKing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Not having auto iso wasn't a big deal at the time, as the idea of "auto iso" wasn't something that most people commonly thought about needing. For people (especially pros) coming from film, the fact that you could click a button and instantly access and change your ISO setting to whatever you wanted was amazing. The dynamic range was also plenty for those who knew how to properly expose their photos (again, people coming from film, especially pros) and the dynamic range is actually better than people give it credit for (as you can see in several of the examples I showed). The dynamic range was also better than a lot of the competitors, or only very slightly worse. For example, the D700 was renowned for its dynamic range and is also 3 years newer than the 5D classic, yet at ISO1600 the D700 is only 1/4 of a stop better in terms of dynamic range.
