Why IGOR is So Depressing: Finding Where We Fit into Heartbreak

  • Heartbreak is a circle. It's a constant state of mind, which evolves over time to be different depending on where we are in the cycle. We're trapped... because exactly what you run from, you end up chasing.
I've been waiting to tackle my commentary on IGOR since I started this channel. Endlessly relatable, exotic and creative, and an album that has spoken to me in ways I could have never imagine throughout the last year.
I tried to insert myself into this one... in a way that conveyed what has made these songs strike the very core of my heart recently. I hope that the video structure and my delivery reflected that.
Thank you Tyler, for this cathartic and personal album. It helps me realize I'm not crazy for the feelings that constantly plague me.
What do you think of this record? Let's talk about it in the comments!
Thanks so much for watching. Every subscriber/viewer means a lot to me, and I appreciate every like and comment. Let me know what you think about the video or the album and I'd love to have a discussion in the comments! Music is meant to be discussed to assimilate ideas and to grow as people.
    Subscribe! / mybeautifullongwindeda...
I am a Christian and student and I made this channel when I was in high school. I started this channel because I love talking about music (specifically hip hop) and given that the genre seems to be going downhill, I want to be part of the community that preserves the expectation of great music and dissecting what makes a beautiful record. Dealing with a lack of friends to discuss these matters with, I hoped to start my own community that loves music just as I do, as well as to provide a unique perspective as a follower of Christ that also appreciates this community. I appreciate everyone who watches and I am truly happy to see anybody comment their thoughts on a project I talk about.
Put "DON'T SAY GOODBYE, SMELL YOU LATER" as your comment if you read the description!
As always, thank you very much for watching and taking time out of your day to discuss music with me, God bless. Isaiah 55:8-12

The cool thing about the whole "I found peace in drowning" line is that if you've ever almost drowned to death you know exactly what he's talking about.
There's a point when drowning where your body simply runs out of fight and sinks. All of the extreme discomfort and urgency you felt before slips away and you feel this sense of serenity, you even feel like you can breathe again even though you obviously can't. It becomes really easy to forget that you feel so at ease because your brain and body is literally shutting down.

I love it how the quote "Exactly what you run from, you end up chasing" connects to his wolf trilogy, where he sings about hating homosexuality, but now he is into a man
not only a loop in the labum, but goes to the very start of his discography fully aware of it

Honestly I've never heard somebody articulate this stuff so well. I've seen a lot of meta and analysis about Igor, I watched all of the Igor season of Dissect, but this one encapsulates a lot of points and details people miss. Kind of insane how much of this I've thought about alone in bed while listening to the album and wondered if anybody agrees. Specifically, you highlighting I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE hit home for me, that song feels so potently important and this is the first time I've seen somebody point out that that track is Tyler SCREAMING that he doesn't love the guy anymore to drown out the truth, that he does still love him. I thought I was the only one reading it that way. There were parts of this that really recontextualized some of the songs for me, the ice water metaphor was so spot on and I never would've thought of that! Great video dude, thank you.

After i broke up with my first girlfriend i couldn't listen to music the same way i was used to, the lyrics finally made sense, especially one song by Vanilla fudge called "you keep me hanging on" as the lyrics matched the same situation i was going through when my ex gf was dumping me, all of the sudden i can enjoy more music too and i learn more about girls and their psychology, once you had your first heartbreak you are in the game and if there's one thing i learn is that you can let yourself fall in love as much as you want if you want but always expect her to pull away at some point and be ready to let her go at any moment also, and yeah crying/emotions whatever, throw that shit out the window, never show that to your girl...

I listened to this album in the perfect point in my life to where I could relate to Igor so much. The frustration and confusion, the empty feeling of feeling like a slave to them. This is one of my favorite albums ever and each track is a banger! If I listen to one song I have to listen to the rest.

1:46, rumors might grasp the universal heartbreak that is on one single album. there are three songwriters with three completely different perspectives on love and heartbreak. also with lindsay and stevie going through their breakup during the albums production, and them both being songwriters, it shows two sides of the relationship. It also shows how they’re both dealing with loss which i think fully encapsulates heartbreak and the different types of heartbreak people experience. Also, with christine’s songs, they show the perspective of the heartbreak someone goes through when they have hurt someone else. So, for these reasons, i think rumors is not only one of the best albums of all time, but also the best album that fully encapsulates heartbreak.

I just listened to the album again, and I don't think "i dont love you anymore" is in the wrong spot at all like i have seen many people say. i think it is there to intentionally undermine the growth igor had in the last song to show that he never really grew, and the cycle is going to repeat, but that is just my take on it 🤷🏼‍♂

Came across this video this week and I am a Tyler fan ofc became a true fan in 2021
Backstory when CMIYGL came out I was on vacation with my family and the album came out and I didn’t like it or understand the message at first September comes I play the album again and I became in love now IGOR I tried the same thing and judged too harshly I would see fans say hey IGOR is better than CMIYGL and hardcore Tyler fans truly believe that even today and I was like nah CMIYGL is better than IGOR
I had a 7 month relationship last year with a girl who was my first ever true girlfriend ever apart from flings and talking to someone I meant a true girlfriend and it felt like paradise my relationship ended in August because of xyz and I grieved for 6 months cried, felt pain, felt alone, insane depression, heartbreak, and just crazy nightmares about her, I couldn’t go one day without thinking about her even if it was just one little small bullshit detail not a day would pass where I wouldn’t think about her
    We arrive to January 2024
I decide to pop in Igor and give it another shot
When I say for those 6 months I was grieving believe me no one truly understood me no one not my group of friends not my family not my parents no one understood what I was going thru it was so easy for everyone to say you will get thru this and you’ll be fine which don’t get me wrong it’s true but it’s like they don’t feel the pain and agony I feel
I pop the album in and my lord… does Tyler dissect every fucking emotion I felt in each song so well that it was like you said I really am IGOR myself
as of right now I can say Tyler Stan’s are right IGOR is better than CMIYGL I have forgotten all about my troubles and more importantly I’ve learned to just say idgaf anymore it happened it’s over cool and I feel completely moved on…
    Thank you Tyler
Thank you creator of this video
I would’ve never understood this concept of the album if it wasn’t for you and Tyler thank you

7:26 the monster isn’t Frankenstein, the scientist is Frankenstein. The monster is “Frankensteins monster” that’s its name.
