    I'm currently re-reading Hillbilly by Eric Powell about a man Called Rondel who basically wanders around the countryside killing witches/demons etc. Awesome books with beautiful art. Great video! Thanks for the recommendations. You gave me a couple of great new reads for spooky season. My recommendation is a series that was just coming out when you posted this video: The Me You Love in the Dark. It's a beautiful, dark, and disturbing story about an artist who moves into an old house in a small town to gain inspiration but not at all what she was expecting. It's from Skottie Young and Jorge Corona. Just gorgeously atmospheric and creepy.

    After watching this video, I started searching my local comic book shops to see who would possibly be carrying these comics. But after googling a bit, I thought about maybe seeing if a local library had any. I haven't checked out a book from a library in over 15 years. But to my surprise, the three I wanted to check out (Archie, Harrow County, and Abbott) were on the shelves of the library 1 mile from my house. I know it might not be the same for everyone, but I do recommend using your local library to check out new comics. Thanks so much for these recommendations!

    Great video! Always good to see some Cullen Bunn love, the man is like a horror machine, always writing great books. Really enjoying the books he is putting out right now (The Last Book You'll ever Read, Lucky Devil, Parasomnia & Basilisk).
    I'd like to recommend the Vault Comics stuff: their books are almost all amazing and their horror line is out of this world! They released some of the best horror books of the last few year, like The Plot, The Autumnal, These Savage Shores, Black Stars Above and Shadow Service. Also Image's Killadelphia (the book is so good!) and the DC horror stuff, Joe HIll's inprint in great!

    I'd very much like to recommend a mini-series called Black Hole by Charles Burns. Originally published by Fantagraphics in the late '90's.. You can find TPB and HC editions from B&N or Amazon. The fact that it is still in print after 20+ years says a lot about the quality of the series, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

    An ongoing series, but Nocterra by Snyder & TSD is really great. A good mix between horror and action, and the trade is only $10 MSRP for 6 issues! The whole “darkness trucker” thing sounds crazy, the book really does a solid job of worldbuilding and has a really interesting visual style.
    Walking Dead is also a must-read horror book. 140 something issues spread across 4 compendiums, but it is incredible. A horror comic that made me cry, laugh, and be frightened, and the way it’s written, you’re never sure who’s safe.

    It would be great if you mentioned artist's names, not only writers, especially if you loved the art :)

      Kamil! Great suggestion! Definitely, something I need to work on. It's so much easier when I'm doing a show on just one book. - M

    Sensor was pretty good. Definitely an odd junji story and mildly scary. Gave me Remina vibes.

    A woman after my own heart, Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing #1, right off the bat!! No better way to kick off a horror comics list in my opinion.

    Everything James Tynion is doing atm is off the chart , i never thought id deviate from Marvel Super Hero stuff like i have , like shit, im only getting X-men from Marvel , im getting SIKTC (and now House of Slaughter), Nice house on the lake , Dept of Truth , but also alot of image stuff like Killadelphia , The Walking Dead Deluxe, Nocterra, Mercy. Ive taken a hard right turn away from woke Super Hero stuff over the last Year. My 'Ghost in the Shell #1' used to be my most valued in my collection , but now its defiantly SIKTC - 'Something is killing the Children #1' Foil cover, so happy to have a copy of that. I know GITS is worth a fair bit , but god knows what SIKTC is worth already, but by value, i mean that i have a copy, and im grateful to have it.

      No longer human. Maybe because it's not his original story? Also the sexual assault in the book is just not for me and felt pointless -M

    The scariest books i read of Junji Ito were Lovesickess and Smashed. Highly recommend those two.

    Crossed Wish You Were Here was a pretty good series. The main crossed series had good moments but was inconsistent.

    Why are you showing light hearted horror, why the hell would I be here if I wanted light hearted horror. We want bloody and gruesome books.

    • @NearMintCondition
      @NearMintCondition  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WE did? Because there are different type of horror that’s why. Some people like psychological, some body horror, some existential and some just a cheap jump scare and shock factor.
