Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this presentation of comics! I have read some, but not all. One of my favorite horror comics is Junji Ito's Uzumaki! Man, I'm a huge fan of the way you talk about the comics you like! Your love for books is literally felt! Those two are somewhat in the same vain to me. Maybe for the lenght and the chaptering style. From the short-story collections Shiver and Smashed are the best ones from the 5 bigger hardcovers. With the shorter ones The Liminal Zone, Venus in The Blindspot and Fragments of Horror I would personally go them in reverse order if interested in more Ito.

Gideon Falla is incredible. Currently 4 trades with another coming next month, but man I can’t get enough of it. I love the trades but the paneling and artwork by Sorrentino screams deluxe treatment. Last issue of Gideon is in December though. :( Rest of the list is awesome ,but Gideon(and Lemire) is just so good so it deserves my whole comment lol. Thank you for the content, Omar! My favourite Horror comic series, and in my top five comics of all time, is Something Is Killing The Children. Such a good read. I got sucked in, and didn’t- COULDENT stop reading until I had finished the completed issues, 5 hours later.

I just found your channel. I'm reading TOMIE now! So good. Gyo is my favorite - you can smell the pungence in the artwork! lol Uzumaki was my first though. The movie is on Amazon prime, it was pretty cool to watch!

Huge fan here, i wanna say something about Alejandro Jodorowsky and the work he has done with the metabarons. Those stories may not befall in the horror genre but they are some comic books worthy of sharing with the fellow readers!
I feel like a lot of horror comics aren't really That horror in the end (like Hellboy is more action for example). Some parts of Preacher is more horror than many labeled as horror. It's a labeling problem usually since sci-fi can be way more horror than be contemporary sci-fi. Or western or whatever but still be in that usual chategory. Especially thriller kinda stories have a lot more messed up things in them than an actual horror in general, because they often feel more rooted in the real world. Horror as a genre is suprisingly widely labeled, say a story isn't really a scary nor supposed to be, it isn't comedy but it's about Satan and some predicament of his that he has to work out in h£ll. it might be labeled as horror even when it would be more drama based (say it would have horrific imaginery as much as in Vinland Saga). Like Junji Ito's No Longer Human which is an adaptation from a book could be put under horror or thriller really in my mind. Since it's like supposed real life events of the author but spiced up so there is that groundness of a thriller while bad things happen and then some occasional supernatural occurence or dreamy imaginery. As a vibe it kinda threads the line. To me it's more about the vibe of the work than what it's about. As an ladt example the pretty legendary but old old manga The Drifting Classroom was made in 70's so it would have been horror then as still labeled now when it's more so a mystery/thriller.
Ahaha started watching re-runs of Full House.😂 That'd be something I'd do. I appreciate your videos. I'm trying to find something my husband would want for his birthday. He loves horror and I've never bought him a graphic novel before. I want to truly surprise him, and I think he would really enjoy one.
I like how you include all manga, graphic novels and super hero comics on your list. Harrow County looks really interesting. I just read Gyo by Junji Ito which was disturbing but I think Tomie is def my fav of his. Thanks!
New viewer, and love your work. Your wife sounds like an amazing gift-giber, have you done a best-of of her comic gifts? I think that would be pretty great
Also, saw Bernie Wrightson at SDCC a few years ago, when Jim Warren was interviewed. Bernie said that his work never looked so good as it was in Warren comics, because he drew and inked and Zipatoned it and it went straight to the printer, instead of the horrible four-color coloring jobs that Marvel and DC did :)
Great video, Omar. I’m new to the channel, and I absolutely love it. I’m currently reading Moonshine by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso. I have mixed feelings about it. The artwork is gorgeous, but the story is all over the place. It’s not boring, and it proceeds at a brisk place, but it lacks focus, I think. I wonder what your thoughts are.
Welcome aboard, hermano! I’ve only read the first trade and it was okay. I love 100 Bullets and I wanted that type of chemistry between the creators again, but sadly it didn’t happen. Im not sure if it got better though. There is an HC coming out later this year so I may revisit.
Harrow County is for sure evergreen? I recently got the 1st library edition and fell in love with it but the other ones are hard to find and expensive on ebay!! that’s good news if so thought and will keep an eye out on IST for as long as I have to for the rest of them
@@NearMintCondition Sweet, thanks for your response. I’ll just have to be patient but its one of my favorite reads this year so far. Thanks for what you do!
This is sooo great and useful. I was looking for a lust like this because I don’t know anything about horror, now I know what to gift my wife (who loves horror).
Have you ever read Gyo by Junji Ito? For me, that's the one that made me stop in the middle of the reading. Not because was too scary, but it made me feel sick, and I swear I couldn't eat for the rest of the day, because of nausea. I was amazing, but I think I never want to read it again in my life!
For underrated horror comics, I'd recommend Beautiful Darkness ("Jolies Ténèbres"). Incredibly creepy thing. It starts as a typical whimsical fairy tale but quickly turns very disturbing. Kudos for including From Hell! Great book, terrifying (hi)story.
I'll never call any series the best until it is finished. Berserk is great, and I have been a fan of it since 2008 when I picked up the first 5 volumes at my local store. I loved it a bunch, and it has always been one of my favourites, but until it is complete and utterly finished I could never rank it among the best manga of alltime. But hey, awesome list Omar! Glad to hear you talk about more horrorstories.
I got hooked on Requiem - I’m trying to find another story I read in heavy metal magazines but cannot remember the title but the main villain was a man that was blind but had a blindfold over his eyes and acted like Jesus but was evil. Any idea what this story was?
I've been on a horror binge this year(bored of superheroes comics). Gotta say dont skip out on some vault comics titles. The plot, fearscape, and cult classic are hidden gems in the genere imo. Of course nail-biter is great. Im surprised you haven't talked about it yet. Especially with its beautiful Omar edition hardcovers. If your really feeling the season, anything with art by Ben templesmith is fantastic. Wormwood, hoxford are fun reads. Speaking of in season. Redlands is an amazing book about witches. Now my favorite right now is spread. Basically what happens if the creature from the thing took over the world. Great body horror. Lots of red and interesting characters
I put Redlands on my hidden gems video last week. I cannot for the life of me find my copy of Wormwood or Fell. I need to checkout those Vault comics. Thank you.
Not one of my favorite horror comics but a hidden gem for sure is Jaybird. It's a Finish comic about a bird that lives in a big spooky house. The comic is almost completly without dialogue and has no narration. There is a beautiful oversized (european album size) edition from Dark Horse for $ 11,59 from IST.
Good list!👍 If you like anthology horror series then I think you would like "Love Hurts" by Kim W. Andersson. And also "Alena" (not an anthology book) by the same author. They both are translated and published by Dark Horse in US. And the two original Swedish hardcover looks amazing 😊 Hopefully the US/Dark Horse version looks just as good.
Check out the other books of Hermann (and recently often with his son Yves H.): you'll be surprised, Station 16 is actually considered one of their lesser works
@@NearMintCondition they"re all available and easy to find in Dutch & French. I'll check for you if English copies exist, I have no idea It's sad that so few European comics / graphic novels (often French originally) are translated in English
Wytches, 30 Days of Night,Tales for a Halloween Night, The Wraith, Interceptor/Reactor, Silent Hill comics, The Evil Within comics, Deadspace comics, Outcast, Pumpkinhead miniseries, Coming of Rage(Wes Craven), 28Days Later comics, Witch Doctor(So Original So Good). Just some of my favorites.
I’m reading Harrow County right now and it’s been great so far. It’s not horrifying, but definitely creepy with some disturbing elements. I love cryptids and supernatural creatures so this is right up my alley
Hey Omar, another great show, thanks. Yeah I luv that From Hell story, both book and flick. Ordered the newest hard cover version in colour last week. I'm also a huge follower of HPL and gotta say that BOOM! Studios has a most excellent choice of books on the Cthulhu mythos. IDW has some wicked horror books too, like Mnemovore. I could go on for aeons about this kinda stuff but no one has time for that,eh. 😈 heh heh heh
@@NearMintCondition The BOOM! books are titled Cthulhu Tales, there are four volumes of short stories from nasty to funny also a series called Fall of Cthulhu which I haven't bought/read yet. I also finally came across a hard cover edition of Alan Moore's Providence Act 2 to complete the 3 volume HC series at a very low price from a LCS which I never thought would have it but hey,you never know,eh. Now I need to get my hands on a hard cover edition of his Neonomicon that won't cost me an arm and leg that I would get from someone else, but still...
I liked the Showcase House of Mystery and Secrets a lot more than the omnibus, it works so well in black and white, mine are also yellowing nicely adding to the atmosphere, and they are a lot more comfortable to hold and read than heavy, unwieldly omnibus editions. Tomie the succubus, sweet, love that book too!
Great list, thanks Omar. From Hell is one of my favourite graphic novels ever so great to see it on the list. Have you seen the recent colourised version? Wondered how that looked as the story really suits the original B&W. For Junji Ito, I prefer Uzumaki over Tomie, the atmosphere is so unsettling and some scenes are very scary!
Man, I've wanted to read From Hell for a while, now I feel like I realy should. The new master edition just came out, but it's coloured (although by the original artist). And I really don't know which version to get. Any thoughts here?
I have seen Junji Ito’s work around for a while now and have narrowed it down to three titles, Gyo, Tomie, Uzomaki, but I’m not sure what to start with.
Saga of the Swampthing From hell Sabrina (not in a scary way more of a creepy vibe way) Animal man (Lemire) Death (not scary but fits with the Halloween spirit) Batman: the Cult Arkham asylum Neonomicon (disturbing) Carnage: mind bomb And of course Walking dead and/or Hellboy Honorable mentions: Hellblazer Preacher Blackest night
I’m a little late to the party here but still wanted to give a recommendation of mine. I haven’t read too many horror comics but Rachel Rising would definitely be my #1
Hey Omar I’m interested in buying those TftC HC I think I heard there’s a b/w version and a color version and I want the color version, do they have a special name for those versions?
Someone might have sait that, bit Alan Moore's Lovecraft Trilogy is definitely one of the most disturbing things I've read. The first, The Courtyard, is ok. But then with Neonomicon it's bad, makes you regret having read it a bit. Providence gets really weird and wraps it all up in a very depressing and scary way.
@@NearMintCondition Do you really think it was bad? I actually like it, but I totally understand if the sexual thing (trying not to spoil it) crossed the line. Providence had some bad reactions due to some sexual aspects although different ones. But it's very interesting, even though I see it as a guilty pleasure, like watching gore videos.
Nice list, but there is also a horror comic missing that is not included or even mentioned here and I consider it a very serious shortcoming for true horror fans. That said, the comic in question has been on Italian newsstands for 37 years ( second in sales behind Tex Willer's iconic 1948 western comic) and is called Dylan Dog. Published starting from 1986, his adventures have in fact alternated traditional horror with numerous "homages" to the classic monsters of the genre, to the modern splatter of the films of Dario Argento and George Romero, but also to yellow, surreal and fantastic in general, always with great irony. Former Scotland Yard agent, detoxified alcoholic, vegetarian and convinced animal rights activist, Dylan Dog has a mysterious past wrapped in a dreamlike and surreal dimension. Not surprisingly, the dream (or rather: the nightmare) and everything that seems to be beyond reality are his personal and professional interests. As a private detective he deals exclusively with unusual cases, in all shades of the term: he is addressed to those who have been affected, or even just touched, by the black wing of the supernatural. People the police don't believe and who would often risk slipping into madness if they didn't find someone willing to listen to them and help them. Fear fascinates him, the irrational and inexplicable fear of the unknown. And he himself is afraid: he is certainly not an invincible hero, and indeed sometimes he just can't solve the case, kill the monster, drive away the nightmare. Or more often it only partially succeeds, and when it all seems over, the horror reappears... Dylan Dog is an anti-hero, then? Not even: he's just a man. A man who, unlike many, does not reject the unknown but instead tries to penetrate and understand it, especially when the mystery and horror lurk in the depths of the unconscious. Ironic, impulsive, problematic, full of doubts about himself and the world, strong and tender at the same time, Dylan Dog hates violence, loves women, enjoys playing the clarinet and building a model of a galleon that may never end . He is an avid cinephile, reads a lot of everything, loves pizza and always dresses in the same way: black jacket, red shirt and blue jeans. And despite all the horrors and hallucinating absurdities he has witnessed, it cannot be said that he still believes completely, blindly, in the supernatural: "I don't believe it, but I hope so".
This man never disappoints.
Thank you so much for watching and the kind words.
I would love to see a list on top 13 crime comics
"Torso" was good. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torso_(Image_Comics)
Pretty much anything by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips is usually Crime/Noir gold.

You are very welcome. :)
I like how you include all manga, graphic novels and super hero comics on your list. Harrow County looks really interesting.
I just read Gyo by Junji Ito which was disturbing but I think Tomie is def my fav of his. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I love all sorts of Graphic Novels and Manga is some of the best.
Hey, I suggested this on the last horror video! Thanks for doing this!
Thanks for the idea! Seriously.
This is a solid "first time readers" list. Not a ton of deep cuts but that's what the underrated videos are for! Solid lineup and choices
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you
New viewer, and love your work.
Are there any books that are kind of like a graphic novel version of The Mist (the movie version)?
Check out some books from Junji Ito like Uzumaki, but I think books like Animosity and Nail Biter might be up your alley.
I recently got the 1st library edition and fell in love with it but the other ones are hard to find and expensive on ebay!! that’s good news if so thought and will keep an eye out on IST for as long as I have to for the rest of them
When my contacts were talking to me at the beginning of this year they said that it was.
@@NearMintCondition Sweet, thanks for your response. I’ll just have to be patient but its one of my favorite reads this year so far. Thanks for what you do!
If you haven't already seen it, try Gary Reed's RENFIELD: A TALE OF MADNESS. Tie-in material to Dracula, of course.
I haven't. But digging what I see so far.
This is sooo great and useful. I was looking for a lust like this because I don’t know anything about horror, now I know what to gift my wife (who loves horror).
I hope she enjoys some of the book.
@@NearMintCondition Thank you. Do you know THE KILL LOCK? Check out my interview with the creator on my channel if you are interested!
@@tomlabooks3263 I haven't read it, but I'll check it out. Thank you.
@@NearMintCondition It’s definitely one of those “hidden gems”.
Why's Black Hole not available on Comixology? I can only find the French edition.
Absolutely. We just reviewed it last month on old reader, new reader.
I love LOVE that book.
Great video as always. Took notes 😁
Awesome! Thank you!
Great choises! If i could add some more it would be "The Black monday murders" , "30 days of Night" and "N." Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much and I really need to read N.
I completely agree with you. I don't know why Berserk gets a pass. Maybe its the history I have with this amazing series.
Sure, 12 years later you still can't make a judgement about it ... 🤔
Berserk is overrated imo
I would put Crossed on my list. I don’t think I need to explain why.
Omar you need to do a part 2 and 3. There are so many good horror comics/mangas out there. Also this is my favorite genre!
There are. You are right. I do love so many different horror comics. I may come back to this or add them to my hidden gems.
Great video...Anybody knows who made DC Unexpected 1971: "The deadly widows web"
Have you read the From Hell Master Edition which is now in color? Wondering as a first time reader which would be better.
No, but I really want to. Since the artist did the colors.
Great episode man.
Thank you so much for watching and the kind words.
I got hooked on Requiem - I’m trying to find another story I read in heavy metal magazines but cannot remember the title but the main villain was a man that was blind but had a blindfold over his eyes and acted like Jesus but was evil. Any idea what this story was?
Requiem is fantastic
Thank you.
Great idea for a video! Found some great recommendations in here! Thanks 💪
I series that is currently being made is The Red Mother. Amazing art. Crazy story.
Looking at some at that art and it looks damn awesome.
I've not heard about Jailbird but I'm going to check it out.
I've not head of those books. But now I want to!
@@NearMintCondition Hope you find them and enjoy them 😊
Check out the other books of Hermann (and recently often with his son Yves H.): you'll be surprised, Station 16 is actually considered one of their lesser works
Ohhh any of them in English?
@@NearMintCondition they"re all available and easy to find in Dutch & French.
I'll check for you if English copies exist, I have no idea
It's sad that so few European comics / graphic novels (often French originally) are translated in English
I had no idea there were so many horror comics. Uncanny Omar is a God in the comics community. Please do a favorite dynamite comics list..
Man I've always wanted to know the best novels to pick up. Great channel!
Thank you so much for the kind words.
Great video. Some stuff that I have wanted but needed to be reminded of.
Glad it was helpful!
The Eternaut is a story that I'm waiting for to get published in a nice format. Based on the premise and art alone it belongs in this list.
It’s in my favorite graphic novels of all time list. I really like the format from Fantagraphics.
@@NearMintCondition That's the version I'm pining for.
HOLD ON!!! There was a Pumpkinhead mini?!! How have I never heard of this.
I’m reading Harrow County right now and it’s been great so far. It’s not horrifying, but definitely creepy with some disturbing elements. I love cryptids and supernatural creatures so this is right up my alley
Great list, keep up the great channel content.
Much appreciated
Thank you for the excellent suggestions!
I really need to keep up with the From Hell editions, I think I've owned four in my time. ohhhh Boom has Cthulhu you say?
I really like the color so I was good with the omnibus.
@@NearMintCondition i dislike omnibi in general way too unwieldy.
Oh and I forgot, but the HP Lovecraft Manga adaptations from Gou Tanabe published by Dark Horse are great.
Oh the Mountain of Madness? I actually did an overview of both volumes at the beginning of the year. So good.
I'm still a fan of the black and white FH. Uzumaki is most people's top pick for sure. For me its all about this crazy chick, Tomie.
Man, I've wanted to read From Hell for a while, now I feel like I realy should. The new master edition just came out, but it's coloured (although by the original artist). And I really don't know which version to get. Any thoughts here?
I actually have both, but I only read it (finally) when I got the coloured edition. So, my advice would be to go for the recent edition :)
It's a great list, totally agree with the Hellboy and Ito Junji picks. Mine would include Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo: Yokai though.
Yokai is amazing.
how many Tales from the crypt volumes there are and where can I get them?
Have you read Black Magick by Greg Rucka ? I heard it's good. Also read Dylan Dog.
It’s excellent, but on hiatus.
I have seen Junji Ito’s work around for a while now and have narrowed it down to three titles, Gyo, Tomie, Uzomaki, but I’m not sure what to start with.
Great list Omar the only thing I would have added would be Conan the Barbarian org Marvel yrs and Savage sword of Conan.
I think you are right. Savage Sword for sure.
Not only was Johnny Depp in From Hell…but so was Bilbo Baggins!
Yeah, the Locke and Key tv show was so disappointing. The story is phenomenal.
Right? how did they mess that up?
Thank god. My wife and I aren’t the only people that didn’t like L&K the show.
Agreed
Man I was the same way about the EC comics after I discovered that the HBO series was based on those old books...I really loved those stories
Right? Dood, some of the best comics out there.
Why not Crossed?
If you like Gideon falls,I highly recommend checking out DARK,a Netflix original, that's mind binding!!😎
I need to get back on that.
@@NearMintCondition finished the 3 season series a few days ago&it was quite the head trip, big boy gem😎
Lobster Johnson hardcover is available for preorder this month!
Oh yeah!
Saga of the Swampthing
From hell
Sabrina (not in a scary way more of a creepy vibe way)
Animal man (Lemire)
Death (not scary but fits with the Halloween spirit)
Batman: the Cult
Arkham asylum
Neonomicon (disturbing)
Carnage: mind bomb
And of course Walking dead and/or Hellboy
Honorable mentions:
Hellblazer
Preacher
Blackest night
I agree only for the preacher
I included Blackest Night last year for sure. It had some messed up scenes. I've not read Sabrina.
Sandman. That’s what I would include in the list. And I do love Hellboy, but Baltimore was so much better in my opinion.
Oh yeah. The Corinthian to this day creeps me the hell out.
Omar, maybe not related to the video but do you know if Infinity Gauntlet omni is already opp everywhere?
It is. I'm going to see if Marvel will restock it.
Thank you very much.
My favorite comic book genre!
My man!
I’m a little late to the party here but still wanted to give a recommendation of mine. I haven’t read too many horror comics but Rachel Rising would definitely be my #1
It would be interesting to know your top 10 horror films. I know you only do comic book/manga videos, but it would be cool :D
Ohh Maybe Amanda and I can go over that sometime. :)
Check out Dylan Dog (from italian publisher Sergio Bonelli)....first 100 issues are SO GOOD!!
I need to.
Hey Omar I’m interested in buying those TftC HC I think I heard there’s a b/w version and a color version and I want the color version, do they have a special name for those versions?
The archives are recolored. Gemstone published the reprints in black and white. They have them in box sets tooZ
Aww, yeah. Amanda's favorite video for sure 🤣
HAHAHA!
He lost me with Neonomicon. So I never finished it.
Thank you so much. I’ve only seen the movie. But now I want to read the graphic novel.
Great list! The ones I've read I love, and the ones I didn't are in my list.
Locke & Key show is fantastic.
