This video was absolutely perfect. Had this issue, saw a couple talking about suspension and tires and knew that wasn’t it, then came across this. Fixed in minutes. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! Came home last night and was mortified by the sound my car made when I pulled in the driveway. Found your video last night, and this morning I found a tiny rock using this method. Noise is gone and anxiety is relieved!
My wife felt like her model y was going to rip apart from the loud metal scraping sound! Your fix saved us a trip to the nearest Tesla service center (40 miles away) - thank you!!!
Thank you! I just heard this noise and was worried sick that it was going to cost way too much to fix. After a few tries poking around, a little stone fell out. Problem solved! You’re a hero ❤
Something so simple and easily resolved! I had the exact same issue - thank you very much for posting, 2 month old MY and started to panic I thought something serious was wrong!
My wife called me this morning about an awful sound coming from her car. I found this video, and tried it when I got to her. A tiny pebble fell out and the problem was solved. Thanks Rick, I _really_ appreciate you making this one!
You Legend! I just picked up my new Model Y. And had this noise straight away, had booked in an appointment at service centre. Followed your straight forward instructions boom! Noise gone, did not notice any stone etc fall out so I guess can be extremely small to cause the noise.. Mine only seemed to happen when turning to the right. 100 fixed Thanks Rick
Thank you for this video! I’m in Florida and we’re in our heavy rain season, went thru a somewhat deep puddle on the highway and immediately started hearing this noise and thought of the worst. Thankful for your video because all it was one TINY pebble in between the brake shield.
Thanks man! I booked a service appointment 3 times due to the same noise and even service guys were tired of seeing me every next month with the same issue since they were not able to fix the noise at all.
I am so thankfull. Thanks for posting this, just took delivery of my Model y, and after some hours, it starting making this horrible sound. Your fix worked.
Thanks very much! Grinding happened on a fairly remote island off coast of British Columbia! Your youtube helped us retrieve a tiny stone and saved us. Thank you so much!
I have that problem every day because i have to drive on a sandy road daily. I never had this problem on any other car. Tesla didn't make a proper disk cover
Great video. Ive had mine for 5 years and never had this noise. Got me worried. Glad u made this video. I dont think i did much. Just touched the brake guard and noise went away!
I had this exact problem this evening. Sounded horrendous so turned back shortly after leaving home. Booked in with Tesla. Found your video after typing in a lengthy description of the noise into Google and found your video. Sorted. Cancelled appointment. A brilliant short video. Thank you.
Hi, Rick, the same thing just happened to my Tesla Model Y. While driving today, the rear wheels suddenly made a harsh friction sound. I used your method and tapped lightly around the brake pads, and then I drove around and the harsh noise disappeared completely. I was planning to go to the Tesla service center tomorrow morning. Your video really saved me a long trip. Thank you. Your video helped me a lot. !
Excellent video! My friends car was making this noise and we were trying to figure it out for 30 minutes. This video & taking the rock out, done in 2 minutes. 10/10 video straight to the point!
Thanks for the tip that the shield was flexible. I pushed on it, stone fell out, badda bing badda boom done! I was about to jack it up and pull the wheel, but no need. Thanks!!
Thank you for posting this! I had this exact issue happen and it stopped after I turned my front wheels side to side and poked and prodded them a bit. I'm glad to see that fixed it and this video explains it! Now I can sleep peacefully at night!
Thanks Rick ! This was exactly the problem with my 2020 Model 3. Small pebbles stuck behind the disc brake cover had lodged in and were scraping the cover as the wheel turned in reverse or drive. It took 2 minutes identify it and for them to drop out after pinching the cover several times. Thanks for the insight. Great video!
Thank you so much! I had this exact problem on my model 3. It sounded like something was dragging under the car making the most awful sound. I rattled the brake shield like you showed and I heard a pebble fall down and that fixed it.
Many thanks for making this video! Had the same horrible noise in my Model 3 and this video saved me $127 in less than 5 min! I was amazed that such a tiny pebble could cause such a loud metal-on-metal grinding sound.
Thank you! The noise was really horrific on my 3 and very scary. 600 miles from home, and .. this simple fix really worked! The hardest part was finding a way to store the dirty rags I created pulling a muddy wheel cover off..
Thank you so much! Took me two minutes and saved me from having to try and schedule a service. I can’t believe a pebble smaller than a pea was causing such an awful noise! Seriously THANK YOU!!
Bro I just want to say THANK YOU !!!! your vid is great and straight to the point ! I found one big stone was also marked up in BREMBO red paint from the calliper sooo its definitely IT
I also have never posted on here. But I had to give you a tremendous Thank you! 🎉 It sounded like my car was dying and you helped me bring it back from the dead.😂
Genius! Though it didn't work immediately...I did make sure I loosened whatever was in there...I rolled the car back and forth moving the steering wheel left to right, right to left in hopes to shake out what was stuck. It worked!! Cancelled my service appt.
Like everyone else, I’m thankful for this video. But why does this happen? I have never had a similar issue on any car I’ve ever driven. Is it because we don’t use the brakes as much?
Bingo tried going forward and reverse to remove the stone. After a few pokes the stone fell out. Not sure why tesla is the first car having this issue.
