I've been stretching the piriformous. Been told I'm overly flexible. I've had trigger point massage, (also done by myself), deep tissue, used a golf ball and lacrosse ball for this. I've had sports massage, I've had acupuncture. I've heated, iced, taken anti inflammatory's. Rested. Stayed active through pain. Seen an osteopath who now says ring the doctor. I had an MRI about two years ago where nothing was found. I've used resistance bands, strengthened, eaten right. Taken supplements, I've respected all of these processes and I'm still in pain. I meditate, listen to healing music, I seriously don't know what else I can try apart from the knife.

I totally get you. I have been experiencing this pain for over three years. I'm exhausted. My doctor also seems not that interested in helping me to find the root cause. To go from one doctor to another takes months and I still have no confidence that they know what this pain is caused by. I'm tired of hoping that by stretching and building glute muscles it will get better because it hasn't helped yet. I'm still to try some of the stuff that you have to see if any of that could potentially help but it's hard to stay positive and hopeful. I have been now referred to the soft tissues specialist so I'm hoping that he will be able to help me. Fingers crossed.

Me too! I feel exhausted and now I'm pregnant so it's getting worse (I'm actually on the floor with a hot water bottle at the moment). I saw a physio recently as I've moved to a new city. They told me to use a different massage ball which I did and now the pain is worse, its painful to just move around, get up, ,ie down etc I saw a blog post saying that it's better to strengthen the muscles around it rather than putting pressure on/massaging an area near a nerve or stretching it. Who knows, I'm willing to try anything at this point

Oh just so you guys know, I’ve been chasing this awful pain for 6 years. It’s derailed my life profoundly.
Thousands on physio, in and out if hospital trying to figure it out. Travelled half the way across the world for stem cells in my lumbar spine to be told by a surgeon back home that this could well be caused by my SI joint.
SI joint issues commonly masquerade as lower back and Piriformis type issues and are often misdiagnosed as such. Piriformis syndrome is grossly over diagnosed. I did have an MRI on my SI joint early on which revealed nothing. The new surgeon said that’s not enough to determine anything as there could be all sorts of soft tissue/nerve/tendon/ligament issues chasing the pain. He’s pretty confident it’s the SI joint. I’m currently awaiting at “CT SPECT” scan.
I suggest chasing this up and seeing whether this might be the cause of your pain because if it is, nothing in this video will help you and there’s probably very little else that will beyond surgical intervention.
I’m not sure if I’ll remember to keep you updated but I’ll be more than happy to if you drop a message here and remind me.

Everyone!!!! GET AN EMG! If you find any lumbar SI radiculopathy without any evidence of a disc bulge or herniation you can validate you’re diagnosis to doctors who aren’t taking you seriously.

I've been suffering pain in the posterior pelvic area and am not sure whether the pain is lumbar neuropathy or actually coming from the soft tissues themselves in the posterior gluteal space. Would you be able to a video discussing differential diagnoses between myopathies and neuropathies? For example, if NSAIDS are able to take away the pain significantly, is that indicative it's more likely myopathic? Or if I do exercises/movements that require the contraction of a certain muscle, and those movements increase pain in that muscle area, then is more likely myopathic?

I tried everything under the sun with NO relief. Just had 2 injections over the last 3 weeks, MRI, x-rays, massages, chiropractor, stretching, balls, you name it and I've tried it. I know this feed is from a year ago but, has anyone found relief? Thanks!

Have the shots helped? Does your pain improve when your leg is kept more tucked? Whenever I extend the pain is excruciating. I saw another post someone got relief from the cortisone shots I believe that’s what they called it from a specialist after a couple of attempts with a device to locate the nerve or something to stop the pain signal.

Thank you so much, like many sufferers my condition has been misdiagnosed for years. I’ve had repeated nerve block injections in my back plus Rhizolysis, for sciatica even though I had no back pain. Finally I’ve been told it’s probably Piriformis syndrome, I’m waiting and hoping to see a hip specialist, but first I have to get past the ‘gatekeeper’ (the physiotherapist) who 18mths ago told me to go home and learn to live with it, he said there is no treatment available and I’ll never get rid of it. I can’t sit or lie down, I’m desperate, and at the end of my rope. Sorry for such a long message. I’m praying I get to see a Hip specialist who can help.

My symptoms seem to mostly fit the DGS as opposed to piriformis syndrome. The pain has been brutal for me, prolonged standing or walking has been very difficult. Wow! Very complex topic. I thought I'd made strides thinking my excruciating pain could be piriformis rather than inflamed nerve root from spinal compression. Wish you were in California. The off-the-chart pain comes when I lie down in any position. Much milder pain with standing or sitting. Seems so odd. Could I pay for a telephonic consult? Now to watch your piriformis video.

Piriformis syndrome, I have it. it goes from the buttock, and squeezes the sciatia nerve, which goes down the thigh, calf, and foot.

  • @Mike717ful

Been having this pain for over 5 years now. It's a pain in both legs, and I get it while standing, walking, especially as I'm doing side leg raises, or if I'm standing in one leg and doing lateral movements, it's radiating in the leg that I'm standing on from the top.
It's possible piriformis or disk herniation. But I'm 23 and after MRIs the spine is ok. Also I've been doing a lot of exercises for the lombar spine to strengthen it.. And about piriformis.. I don't know I mean, it's first of all in both legs the same and after I sit down it gets better. It should be the other way right? And the pain doesn't (or at least I don't perceive it that way) stem from the butt area, it's like local islands on the hamstring, quads, calves and heels.
Does this local radiating pain in those areas make any sense? It's not like a string like I see most patients with piriformis complain about.. Can it be something else?
Thanks a lot and if you could help with a tip I'd be so happy!
