(And Have FUN!)
That's correct ! Maybe just a little something about Offenbach and "Orphée aux Enfers" : the title of this part is called "Galop Infernal" and has been used in our "french (with a c) cancan" :)
As always, awesome reaction !
@@TheCharismaticVoice not a chance, but I do know some of these composers 😏
After playing them all, I recognized them all, but only about one third by name alone.
I feel like Elizabeth should join VoicePlay for one song (or multiples) :D
@Snowave50she did the background ghosts in Voiceplay’s rendition of Hide and Seek(the one themed around the Haunted Mansion.)
Cesar doesn't bring subtext...he brings SASSTEXT! 💙
Since VoicePlay collaborated with Liz Garrozzo and Rachel Potter for their first two classical mash-ups, could we get them to invite our Elizabeth to join them for what I assume will be a piece to complete a Grundels a capella trilogy?
She could cosplay as her D&D character Vox. A tiefling bard would make the perfect complement to these demons. This must happen!
YES
I screenshotted your comment and tagged Voiceplay in an IG post because YES I agree
Hear hear
Elizabeth isn't playing around, this just came out a few days ago, glad to be getting back to voiceplay
Hah! I luckily knew about it quite a while ago. I have a cool interview with Layne coming out soon afterwards!
@@TheCharismaticVoice can't wait to see it
Yes!💙
@@TheCharismaticVoice That should be quite interesting.
@@TheCharismaticVoice I watched the Voiceplay video of this yesterday and was hoping that you would do an analysis for us and .... yay!!!! Thank you so much.
How can we get the award people to recognize the incredible work that VoicePlay does within the a capella frame? They deserve so much for their creativity because there is no one else like them.
I'm not sure, but there should be a grammy category for it!
I've wondered since I heard that the Grammies changed the name of the category from "Best Arrangement, Instrumental" to "Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella" for Pentatonix and the Daft Punk medley, why don't they have all of the "normal" categories for a cappella songs/groups? They have categories for genres I've never even heard of, much less heard examples of, but there's virtually nothing for a cappella!
The Grammies - grammaphone - recording industry. Voiceplay works outside the recording industry and doesn't make them money. The industry doesn't want to reward and promote groups that do without them. Voiceplay does what they do in part because they are independent. Record companies would never bet on the stuff that voiceplay does.
@@philipmallonee5076 That is such a travesty. There I thought they were really out to credit true talent. Thanks for opening my eyes.
Two references to carrots in here. First is the change of color to Layne’s horns ( orange in Mountain King/green here), and when Layne had the ‘solo’ lead the smoke of the fire was orange and green.
Great reaction with lots of tidbits and new (to me) information about singing techniques. Thank you, Elizabeth.
omg, so subtle. Layne, you GENIUS!
They acted out a whole story to the music. It had this newly 70 year old dancing in my chair. Who needs the gym for cardio when you have VoicePlay 😂😂
Happy birthday! Mine's in a few weeks! You've got about 20 years of wisdom on me though!💙
The VoicePlay Discord server was really hyped for this reaction! Glad you liked it, and it was great as always to hear your breakdowns!
Yay! That's awesome to hear. You can be the first to tell them an interview with Layne is coming as well. ;-)
I love it when Elizabeth geeks out on vocals. When it's a cappella, it just goes to a whole different level. So much joy. And then there's Voiceplay. Double joy.
If I know Layne there must be a part 3 coming. He is the master of madness.
He did say he has a part 3 in mind but it will be a while lol
@thisismetoday7423❤
I hope we get a Grundels Halloween.
Elizabeth and Peter are definitely the best people to react to this... Can't wait!
Check out classical musician Sir Hairless analysis as well. Should be coming out in a couple of days.
Another good opera singer/beat boxer (yes, he does both!) analysis site is Good Evening Stories. His analysis is up already. Check it out.
And Morbius!
@@LisaRedwine Do you mean Mortius?
@@didgemonkey LOL! Yes, that's who I meant.
Acapella with no lyrics is a concept that just kinda melts my brain, but I love the result! ❤
Elizabeth's is the reaction I've been waiting for... and I was hoping for the horns as well. I'm so excited! ❤
her and Peter Barber are the reactions I look forward to the most for songs like this :)
I hope you guys watch classical musician Sir Hairless as well. He really breaks down the chords and rhythms.
@@thisismetoday7423so agree - love him!
Elizabeth, I love how you expand my knowledge and appreciation of music. For example -- THERE ARE NO DRUM KITS IN CLASSICAL MUSIC! And here's Layne, vocal percussionist, thinking to himself, "How can I pose myself this impossible problem? Right, I'll do a piece where I bring in ALL THE CLASSICS." And killed it. Loved the piece and your wonderful analysis of it. Thanks for sharing your intelligent appraisals. Cheers
Thank you Elizabeth for the VoicePlay! They really do bring the classics into the modern environment well! I love the way you continue to bring so many more styles into the modern perception with your reactions!
I was waiting for your reaction to this and you didn't disappoint 😊
"when Layne mentioned to me they were doing this"
I've been watching this channel for years, I remember Elizabeth's first Voicplay reaction. Now she just casually throws in that she's friends with the group. 😂😂😂
BTW, the carrot was in the fire! When Layne had the book, the fire turned orange with a green top and got thin and tall. Also Layne is orange with green horns. Carrot man!
Amazing,Bravo,Magnifico!!!!That was so surreal.Ive never heard anything like that
Best quote of the review: "Oh my gosh, this is like Hall of the Mountain King on crack!"
lol. Bingo Charismatic Voice. VoicePlay IS Hall of the Mountain King on crack!!! Absolutely loved it and your comments on it. Thank you. It was wonderful!!
I was wondering how long it'd take you to react to this one, Elizabeth. I'm not disappointed at all! Can't wait for your giddy giggles!
I am so happy you reacted to this. I feel like the spell book was Rachel’s and she decided to teach “the boys” a lesson for messing with her spell book. 😆
Ever mess with a witch's spell book. 😂
Such a fun reaction! But let's face it, it's always fun when Elizabeth covers Voiceplay. Love the horns! ✌️❤️🧌
I love Geoff's face after Caeser's deep 'duh's. Man is like "God damn, I've been one upped..."😂
I love how sassy cesar is even when hes a little silly forest gremlin 🤣💅💜
WHAT SHE PLAYS D&D WE HAVE A NOMINATION FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!
Haha, I don't want it.
Not the hero we want, the hero we need! (I _really_ don't blame you!)
This reminds me of albums I had as a teen, and happy to discover on YT -- Hooked on Classics.
Did you notice that the fire and smoke changed color to match which character was "casting"? Blue for Geoff, green for Eli, etc. Layne added an extra bit of magic for himself as the Carrot Lord, putting a touch of green above his orange smoke. So cool!
This is peak VoicePlay. Layne's brain must be filled with songs that cycle rapid fire. And Geoff's expression at Layne's antics is priceless. But Rachel is the essential core in the entire piece.
Rachel is just an awesome collaborator, and I think they're lucky to have her with them. And of course, Layne's genius. Though, I was missing the carrot in this video.
The carrot was in the fire! It changes colors depending on who's got the book. It's orange for Layne and at one point the top goes green. Also, Cesar was stealing Geoff and Rachel's voices, hence Geoff looking confused and Rachel giving him the side eye. 😂
@@virginiathomas362it's a call back to Rachel(Ariel) and Geoff(Ursula) in the little mermaid medley!
@martindinner3621 i didn't pick up on that omg 🤣
This gave me goosebumps and chuckles all at the same time. GREAT video.
Love your reactions. Voice play is so good at what they do. I hope this means you back to doing some Acapella groups would love to see you do more Home Free it’s been too long and even there solo work would be awesome.❤
I keep thinking Professor Peter Schikele would be proud! Layne must have overdosed on PDQ Bach's Umbegun Symphony as a child!
I'm so excited for this!!!!!!!
I wonder when someone asks them "so what did you do today?" How do they explain it?
You joke about helium, but I still wanna see a video wherein Geoff just goofs around with a canister of sulfur hexafluoride for a few minutes.
The world would not survive. Nay, the universe may tremble until no atoms are left.
Y'know...Voiceplay does take fan input every now and then. Your idea could end up in one of their TH-cam Shorts
I loved that the transition from “Romeo and Juliet“ by Tchaikovsky to “A Night on Bald Mountain“ by Mussorgsky was the sound of a needle scratching across a record.
19:31 - Previously when Cesar hits that really low note, he'd stolen Geoff's voice, then he reaches over and snatched Rachel's for the high note haha
I love that part. And his sass!
I first saw Rachel in her audition on X-Factor US singing a queen song in a country style. Been a fan of her since.
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
I saw this last night and LOVED it! And A Night on Bald Mountain is used in both Fantasia and Fantasmic!
I've been waiting to hear your reaction to this from the minute I saw it! VoicePlay just keeps taking it up a notch and up a notch, so brilliant
I love Voiceplay and Rachel Potter but I watch and listen while smiling and bobbing my head. Then Elizabeth gives us the narration that explains how intricate and complicated it was to blend the pieces together. Well done…enjoyed every giggle.
I think just the term "chaotic" does not do it justice. It is amazingly structured and uniform, organized chaos? Amazing job by them. Iove the modern and musically creative approach on a variety of "classical"-like pieces
This is pure Chaos, not Kaos. There is a difference ;-P
THX for presenting this to us and do the breakdown.
You know, it didn't occur to me until just now (I've been watching this reaction in short increments to make it last longer, SO glad you're doing VP again), but this video by our guys and Rachel has a VERY "Fantasia" feel to it. Maybe even a dash of Looney Toons as well, especially with the Wilhelm Scream. Edit: Annnnnnd I typed that way before you mentioned there was a song from "Fantasia" in it. Well, I feel a bit silly now.😊
What I find interesting is that you and the channel "Good Evening Stories" are in sync with a lot in your reactions. It'd be cool to see you guys collab on a Voiceplay video. Since he has sung both opera and done beatboxing, I think you'd have a lot of fun. Maybe "Sleeping In The Cold Below?'" 💙
Those of us of a certain age definitely were feeling the Looney Tunes vibe!
@@BigDaddyAlan Yeah, you don't see too many kids trying to use sheets for parachutes these day...💙
I saw this whole video with them and thought you would have a blast with it. It's fabulous fun. I look forward to seeing your reaction after work tomorrow. It's soooooooo much fun.
Did anyone else notice that "The Last Page" didn't say "Do not lose", it said "Do not loose" - as in "do not set free the being entrapped in the last page"! Who was summoned - set free - by the spell's beginning .. and *remained* at the end?
Thank you! I'm so glad you reacted to this newest amazing VP production! While there are lots of people reacting to VP's covers now, very few are actually giving knowledgeable assessments, so what's the point? Can they truly appreciate the genius of VP?! Doubtful.
Have you seen Sir Hairless? He’s one of my favorites for actual knowledge in his analysis.
I’d love to see you sing in a Voice Play video. Imagine the fun you would have.
A great fun way to introduce some classics to people who may never listen to them.
Myu only problem is now I want them to do full sections of these... Geoff and Night on Bald Mountain anyone?
I love Caesar doing the Can-Can!
What you were saying about understanding and bringing the subtext of a song. How I've explained that to people before is the big difference betweeen singing/playing a song and performing the song. ❤
I love the little Easter egg of the carrot .. if you go back to Layne’s part and see the flames are orange he adds a little green and if you watch slowly they mix to look like a carrot 😂 , it was such a cute little Easter egg , I had to watch it more then once to notice it 😂
Plenty of VoicePlay in this suggestion: Red Handed Denial - “Father Said” (Lauren Babic live one take performance) Recentish version of Lauren who can sing beautifully and scream with the best of them.
Thank you for another wonderful and educational analysis. I have learned even more about this piece. I love Rachel's interactions with everybody. Now I need to watch your interview with Layne on this one.
I think Sonic Squirrel is my new favorite way of describing her lol
VoicePlay definitely makes me fall in love with music every day! ✨🔥📖🔥✨
Your reaction was just as amazing as the performance 💐
I love this video and song. It reminds me of "Hooked on Classics from the 80s!!"
When Layne hands over the book, it sounds like he is saying, "For my mama." Is that possible?
No lol
I still think he is saying that.@@thisismetoday7423
You should do a collab with Voiceplay that would be awesome and I'm sure they would be happy to do it
The summoning was for her, she was the last one summoned and she was the one who remained locking them all back in their original place.
There was a warning about the first “spell” at the start, and then the final warning to not “loose” the spell on the last page … which of course she did. :)
This gives me the vibes of the Sorcerer's Apprentice, with the Sorceress still there.
Thanks for your reaction 😊
Looking forward to your interview with Layne - what this man has going on in his head is insane 😉. 🌹🕊
Why does this remind me of a Bugs Bunny/Elmer Fudd cartoon?
Fun cartoons like that brought 4 whole generations to love classical music, and introduced hundreds of millions of people to opera. Never underestimate the power of silliness.
@@rhov-anionI think Layne might agree with you.
Nice Wilhelm scream at 17:04 🙂
I love how they use the book as a prop and use it to begin each piece depending on who has it in their hands. Rachel uses her voice to get the book back resulting in each of them getting into trouble.
How soon before they ask you to sing with them? and would you accept?
I believe she's a background voice in their "Hide and Seek" video. Hasn't been on camera with them yet, though
You need to listen to Rachel in the Voiceplay version of Phantom, about 8 years ago….she can sing anything.
As Elizabeth was talking about taking organ lessons because she wanted to make the room shake I suddenly understood why she has come to love rock & metal so much. Same goals!
For another great crossover tou should check out "Hall of the Mountain King" by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow - yes, the Greig, but with the Ritchie guitar magic and lyrics.
There is/was 2(+1) reactor I am looking forward to react to this one. Yours is one of them.
First time I ever saw Rachel Potter was on one of the talent shows, (America's Got Talent?). She has done some really great stuff with Voiceplay since then.
The chanting words reminded me of Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling," but I know that's not quite it.
Also, it says "Do not LOOSE," which means something very different from "Do not lose." To loose something is to set it free from captivity.
I love how natural their just intonation sounds. Perfect resonance ❤ (try achieving that with autotune😂)
Ah Man I Missed This...🫤
There needs to be another installment of this story by VoicePlay. And it needs to feature Elizabeth Zharoff!! Who better to help us have some more fun with classical music!
Amazing vocals. It reminded me of a disco version of this from the 70s called Hooked on Classics.
I didn't buy a lot of 45s, but I bought that one and darned near wore the grooves off! 🙂
I had Hooked On Classics volumes 1, 2, and 3 as a teen. Still play the albums on YT. There are many more editions now.
'Hooked on Swing' was another that I listened to a lot.
Wheat Kings by The Tragically Hip. Happy Canada Day!!!
Hey Maléfica, nice voices 🥳
Please do Afterlife or Buried alive by Avenged Sevenfold, they'll blow your mind, you haven't seen much from them
Please please please do a video on city and colour. Literally all of his music is phenomenal!!
What a fun piece! Sorry I missed the premiere. I would have loved to hear Geoff do the base pedals in Toccata in F Major (BWV 540), but alas, it is not so well known.
Fairly new to your channel and I just love your reactions. You are true and your knowledge is amazing. I recently watched your Meatloaf reaction and wanted you to check out this more "recent" version of it. No need to do an analysis, but I think you will find this super fun to watch.
A capella? You know the drill: once again I nominate Hellscore with their Babymetal a capella metal cover "Gimme chocolate".
If you pay attention, Cesar first stole Geoff's voice, and then he stole Rachel's voice. They are the ones singing, and he's lip-syncing. That's why he "sounded like he had helium."
The part you were debating on if it was in Fantasia and/or Fantasmic is the same scene played in both shows. Fantasmic is replaying the scene from Fantasia.
The ONLY gripe I have about this is that I’d love to see them do full-length versions of nearly all these pieces-especially Thus Spake Zarathustra and A Night On Bald Mountain. But isn’t it wonderful?
I was initially a bit confused by the characters, but once I’d watched it a few times I think I got a storyline figured out. The book cautions that this conjuring music isn’t for beginners-and the guys are all beginners. Rachel might be their teacher-she knows what she’s doing, and they’re swiping the book back and forth and just going nuts and she’s trying to keep a lid on it. When they get to the Can Can, you see magical fireworks shooting off in all directions and she gets a bit frantic, snatches the book back, and does her bit, and you see the magic all get sucked back into the fire. And after they mess around a bit more and she gets fed up, she does the last page and sends them back whence they came.
Anyway, I’m so glad you jumped right on this-your reactions to these pieces are always so fun!
Night on bald Mountain started on Fantasia, then was used for the Fantasmic stage show
I love what toy do! And I love that you're a Brandon fan :)
AaaaAAAA yes yes yes!!! I've been watching the Voiceplay video obsessively the last few days since it posted, and I've been so eagerly awaiting this video!! I just knew it was going to be a deep dive into Rachel Potter's vocals; she does some absolutely amazing things here!
As for what you're referring to as a "digitized run," from a production standpoint, what I'm hearing is an entirely natural run with a progressive heavy spatial element being phased in overtop of it. All the original notes are absolutely there and audible underneath, just with a lot more breadth stacking onto it that's generating a harmonic! No idea if I'm even close to correct, just what I'm hearing. Absolutely beautiful production work no matter what!
Ahhhhhh 17:04 they got a Wilhelm scream in there!!!!!
I get an absolute "kick" out of watching Cesar do the Can Can when the song is playing..
❤️❤️❤️
Any chance you could react to Vocal Spectrum?! It’s on of my favorite Barbershop Quartets and they have BEAUTIFUL VOICES!! They do classical and musicals as well!!
A Night On Bald Mountain is also in Fantasia. It used in contrast to Ave Maria when Chernabog awakens....
And Elizabeth is correct that it also does make a brief appearance in Fantasmic!, the stage show in the Disney parks, as the villains all work together to trap Mickey in the magic mirror.
Subtext is key to understanding the classics, thank you! That's what I always try to explain to new listeners or when trying to expose my friends to my nerdy world of classical and classical crossover. I've also been attempting genre cross training as I've aged and it is challenging! I needed this geek out, thanks so much Elizabeth!
If you noticed, the color of the smoke coincided with who had the book and was 'casting'. At one point, Eli was going nuts casting fireworks and Rachel reclaimed the book. When QoFyReacts thought he noticed a shift from major to minor, it coincided to when Rachel started 'uncasting' Eli's spell and his green smoke was collapsing back into the fire.
Thank you for another awesome reaction & analysis...was waiting for this one!!
I really must agree with your total delight in this performance. You expressed the wonder and amazement that I felt. I just don't know all the technicalities that you express so well.
Thank you, Elizabeth.
Been waiting for this… 😆😆
This will be good!
Slayer- angel of death. The opening is to die for
You were talking about the vocals they were creating... at the end there's a speaking part during the credits and two speak in those voices
