Great to see you back at it Rohan! Glad the crays picked up, heres a tip to catching them on wings, make sure you remove the skin from as much of it as you can, some reason the skin puts them off, pop taught me when I was young that you always skin your raw chicken parts before putting them in the net if they have skin on you'll donut. Hopefully that helps you out if you try them again haha.
@@fredscheerle7592 i think you're on the money with that. Chicken skin almost waterproof. Not much goodness can escape! Chicken carcase no skin at all. Every last little bit can escape. Lambs fry or if you can find em bullocks hearts fantastic but only seem to work for a few hours. All the blood leaches out then they dont work
G'day Rowan, great to see you back fishing again. I think Robbie was showing off a bit. 😆😆😆 It's a bit sacrilegious but try some cabana. It's great for yabbies and shrimp, so I reckon it'll be great for crays as well. Once again, great to see you back.
Great video Rohan and nice to see you using the frisbee method to throw the nets out. The secret is holding the bottom and the top ring together, something I have told Robbie before. Yeah, you'll still get the odd fail here and there but with a better than 90% chance of it working. I hope you enjoyed the cray he gave you mate, I've never tried them yet.
I'm a big fan of the frisbee method, but I do find it tangles the ropes a bit from twisting! I'm trying to get the hang of spinning it the other way every second time lol. Thanks heaps Mick
@@RKJFishing, throw it one clockwise and next time counter clockwise and keep swapping between the two it takes all of the tangles out. You'll get it mate, it just takes practice, but, you need to keep the bottom and top ring together when you throw.
G'day Rohan, good to see out and about again, gee that was some bad luck with those ropes breaking at least you were able to make up for that later with seven crays. just before Easter I went out fishing for some flatties at Campbells Cove Werribee south and had a good catch of about six 35-40cm fish and pedaled my kayak back to start one last drift and on the first cast of that last drift I hooked up again and went to place this last fish in the keeper net I was using only to find both net and fish were gone, all that was left was the rope tied to the side of my kayak, what I think happened is the knots in the top of the net all broke as it was at least 20 years old and I had only just found it hidden away in the shed, so as you can imagine I had to buy fish for Good Friday lunch. Anyway great vid mate, Cheers.
haha yeah 12 months of lying in the sun in my backyard didn't do the ropes much good lol. Sorry to hear about your keeper net, that sucks! Thanks heaps Daryl
He's baaaaack! Shame you seem to have been infected with impatience checks Rohan, hope you recover soon ..... Some nice crays there, good to see you two out again together.
You're back mate 👍🏼 Good to see ya back out there Lucky you had your waders with you mate that could have been a sad day going home without Annette 😅 Surprised to see you guys getting them crays in the colder weather Finally going cod fishing this weekend so hopefully I can get onto at least one 👍🏼 It's my birthday weekend away so the luck should be on my side I guess Would have liked some of the crays little yabby cousins for bait but way to cold for them lately. PS lambs fry has also been my go to for yabbies Looks like you would have been better saving the chicken wings for dinner 😅😅 Keep up the awesome work mate
Hey good luck getting a cod this weekend, and happy birthday! These Murray Crayfish are active during the colder months, and we're only legally allowed to catch them in winter! Yabbies are the complete opposite being more active in the warmer months, but yabbies can be legally caught all year round. Thanks so much mate
Welcome back. Good to see you least got a few. Bit strange how the crays did not touch the chicken wings. 7 is a good start though. Gee, the big fella was kicking a few goals 🦞Cheers mate 👍
Thanks heaps Trevor. I've been informed in the comments that crayfish aren't keen on chicken skin for some reason! If I have to use wings again I'll skin them first lol.
Thanks mate! I did have a rod and spinner with me actually, but it was only my light redfin gear unfortunately. If I had my big baitcaster with the 50lb braid on it I would have fished them out no problem lol
You might be right mate, my wife actually said the same thing after I got home haha. If I have to use wings again I'll put some slits into the meat or something
Hi mate in the VFA guidelines for Crayfish it lists a bunch of waterways where you can only use 5 nets, and then it says for all other inland waterways you can use up to 10 nets. Waranga Basin is on the 5 nets list, but it doesn't mention the channels specifically, so I would think it would be counted in the "all other inland waters" list. To be safe though I'll just use 5 or less nets, the same as Waranga Basin.
Awesome, I loved it. Well done mate. It was great to catch up and share a wonderful afternoon of crayfishing.
Thanks heaps Robbie. It's always a pleasure catching up mate, we need to do it again soon

oh wow that's unreal! I wonder why they don't like the skin? Thanks heaps for the tip

Those are absolutely the biggest Crayfish I've ever seen, Haha, I bet they are delicious, it also looks like time for some new rope, Lol.
Thanks Russ! I definitely need some new rope lol
More cray fishing videos would be fantastic and a cook up 🎊 to top off would be awesome 🤩
I definitely plan on doing more crayfishing in the future! Thanks for watching

Cheers Joel!
good to see you back, we used to peel the skin off the wing, that was pretty successful
Thanks so much! Someone else said the same thing actually, apparently they don't like the skin!
Gday Rohan, great to see you mate, looked like a great day apart from the Rope braking a few times.
Thanks Jim! Haha yeah a year out in the sun didn't do the ropes any good lol
Great video mate, looks like Yas have a rippa time out on the water.
Thanks Josh, it's always a fun time when me and Robbie catch up

Welcome back Rohan. Wonder if taking a rod and spinner to retrive the lost nets? Well done

Thanks Jerry, I sure did
Seen some monsters from that very spot 😉
haha that's awesome! Good to hear for sure

Thanks so much Vincent
Nice work mate
Thanks heaps Ray
Hello, enjoying one of your older videos. I think you are due for a yabbie or crayfish video about now don't you think?
Thanks for watching! I reckon you're right. I'll have to dig my yabby nets out of the shed haha
Your back Rohan.
I am mate! My computer blew up I had to get a brand new one lol
@@RKJFishing oh crap at least your back haha
Nice 1 Rowie!

I'd think they like the carcass better because the wings have skin, keeping the flavor in

@@RKJFishing yeah, that's what I used to do, when I was a kid and went down to the channel for yabbies

Thanks buddy
i bet those crayfish taste nice.
They sure do! I reckon I prefer yabbies, but I love keeping one from time to time
Great to see you back out and enjoying what you love how you been
Hey buddy thanks so much
Hey mate any chance you will tell me where that spot is great vid mate keep it up
I won't give the exact spot because it's Robbie's not mine, but not too far from the basin
Looking thin and trim!!!
haha cheers mate, yeah a bit fell off! I'm not complaining lol
why did you not check that the knots were secure before use .
hahaha the problem wasn't the knots, it was the yellow cord that came with the nets, they had deteriorated out in the sun for a year lol
Wondering what had happened to you.
👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Is it legal to get crystal in the channels.
I know where I'm from we can only get them only in the river ?
