He served his country doing his Nation Service and saw first hand how out of control the blacks were. His old friends attended his weddings, all white Afrikaans, really great guys. They have all left now SA now. What the blacks, ANC, Nelson Mandela and his types have done to SA is heartbreaking. The problem is cheap labors back then, but now there is no cheap labors. Back during the apartheid the Africans had no any right -a job that a white man would do by a hundred dollar a black man would be paid less than a quarter to it. In addition there was no health insurance for blacks nor unemployment benefits. That why most African countries after independent failed and people think that the Africans were the problem because they say look during the colonization those countries were thriving , but look now what they turned to be. But, they never take into account the fact that during colonization the colonizers were getting almost like free labors from the natives and that why they were able to compete in export. Now even if the white controlled politic in south African it will be the same not much they could do because of the high cost of the labors now.

It's very easy to pass judgement with the benefit of hindsight, but the white South Africans made a massive mistake in giving the black population freedom and the vote. Both should have happened of course, but the mistake was to allow it all to happen so quickly. There should have been a transition period of 20-30 years so black and white could work together, hand in hand, to create the future South Africa. To 'educate' the black population into how things are done - you cannot simply pass an entire country almost overnight onto poorly educated (which was not their fault) people. They needed to be mentored and educated by the whites so a peaceful and beneficial handover of power occurred over a long time, or preferably actually joint power between black and white so that everybody was given the chance to prosper and succeed. Sadly though it all went to pot and many whites have left leaving the country to fall apart and sink into huge corruption. Sad, for such a beautiful country.
