If it's BSE engine, then it's really reliable. Mine has 310K km/192K mile and still works well. My oil doesn't get so dark, after a year it is still golden when it's replaced.

@Viidarr13 The 500 page VW manual is a joke. Even changing a light bulb is supposed to be done by a VW mechanic.
5W-30 but 5W-40 will work fine
Agree on manual being a joke - they gatekeep this info so you go to an authorised mechanic
