  • In for repair is a Technics 100+1 disc CD player. This unit came in with 3 discs loose and rattleing around in the chassis. Upon inspection it was determined that the linear mechanism positioning belt had given up and came off the pulleys. After a belt replacement and a cleaning the unit once again works great.

This worked for us. Thanks for the video. Now wish me luck getting the remote working. Ours has been sitting idle for several years while we cared for elderly parents. Trying to get things working again.

Technics is considered by many to be high-end gear and this player only needed a simple belt replacement and a quick clean - now all working. No capacitors or other parts needed for this job. (if only life was so simple!) ... and you might have another happy customer to add to your Xmas list. :-)

Dude, thank you for your video. I changed my belt and it worked great for 2 weeks then stopped. So watching your video helped me to clean the laser pick up and all is good again. ❤

Hey Norcal715, you helped me on another repair some years back. My unit suffers from the dreaded "No Disc" message, but after cycling through a good number of discs it will eventually start reading/playing the disc and will play from then on. I reckon it must be due to a weak or wearing out laser. I was glad I had this video as a reference to clean the laser lens - the last time I managed to get a q-tip in there without complete disassembly but couldn't remember exactly how I did it. Anyway, I did take it apart, and was able to clean the lens and other surfaces you showed in the video. I was surprised how clean it was inside, and the lubrication on the gears seemed good. Unfortunately when I got it back together, it would no longer insert a disc into the cd drive. After watching your video, I powered it off, and then moved the cd drive all the way to the right, and noticed the back gear was one tooth off to the left, so I unscrewed the right side and made sure that the gear teeth lined up correctly. After this, the unit would load cds again. Unfortunately, I still get the "NO DISC" message, but after about ten times loading and unloading cds, it started playing as it usually does. Maybe the tired laser finally gets hot enough to read? I guess there is no way to repair that as parts would be prohibitively expensive and likely non-existent at this point! If the cd drive stops moving I will know where and what to do to replace the belt. Hopefully I could find one on Amazon or other source. Thanks again!

So you played Santa and got her player fixed for her. Good job, SanatCal715! :) Now that was cool and the easiest fix I've seen you do yet! I know that thing was a chunk of change new back in the day... I almost went crazy and bought one back then, but just couldn't part with all the $$$ Now I have an older, much cheaper SSFF Dual Core box hooked up to my main audio/video system as a 50,000+ CD/DVD/BR, 1080p multimedia player. :)

These are the "sleepers" of CD players.
Not many know, but the MASH system from Technics players actually oversample at 64X !!!! They sound as good as the digital CD was recorded.

This is the same exact mech used in the SA-CHxxM series of mini stereo systems by Panasonic (which makes sense, since they're both Matsushita) except those are 60+1 changers. There's the 64M, the 84M and the 94M. Those have their own amplifier and speakers, FM/AM tuner and a single/dual cassette deck stacked on top (the 64M model which I own is a single deck, whereas the other 2 are dual). There's also the Technics SL-MC400/410 which also holds 110 discs (and I own as well), although I think that was the first generation of mechs of this kind that Matsushita made. I think the timeline goes like this: Matsushita released the 400 series under the Technics brand, they were pleased with the results and decided it was worth improving and carrying over to later products, so they made the 6/7 series next which adds the optical output port and got a bit of a facelift and different color scheme on the front. Then came the smaller all in one SA-CH models under the Panasonic brand, just shrunk down. By this point, they also made some improvements to the logic and firmware of the MCU running the whole show. For instance, the SA-CH model doesn't need to slide the mech across the rack to search for discs at each and every power cycle - it only does it once after the door has been opened and closed and then remembers the number of discs until you open the door again. It also won't let you select slots that came up empty during the initial search action - it will say "NO DISC" if you try to punch in an empty slot number. By contrast, the MC model WILL let you punch in any slot number, it will move the carriage to it and even load the ghost disc. Even after determining there's no disc there, it will let you try again, so its memory is even worse than that of a fish :)) In its defense, it DOES at least omit non-present discs when cycling through them with the DISC SKIP buttons, but even this is not perfect and works MUCH better in the SA-CH systems because as soon as you hit DISK SKIP +/- during playback, it will immediately jump to the next disc up/down from the one that's playing, even if that's not the one you want to get to. By contrast, on the mini units, the "DISC SKIP" button won't stop the disc in play - it only serves as a cursor UP/DOWN key and scrolls through all available slot numbers and will only go to it once you actually hit PLAY yourself - MUCH more convenient....WHEW ! Sorry for the wall of text :)) I've had the SA-CH unit in the house ever since I was a baby and always found it fascinating as I grew up, the mechanical sounds it makes when handling discs in particular, so I when grew up and found there's a 110 disc variation of it, I just HAD to get myself one too ! :D

If the belt is the only issue, I would recommend just fishing it through. If you missalign the sled on the upper track vs. The lower track it will create a frustrating time.

Two questions if you have the time:
    1) Is there a dimming option for the display text/numbers? (Don’t want to dim the blue display on the left CD window.)
    2) Any tips on finding a part number for the clear plastic cover that snaps onto the front? Mine was chipped/cracked, so I just removed it... looks better, but would be nice to buy a replacement part without having to buy a whole ‘nother CD player...
    Thanks for any response!

As far as localized dimming of separate areas, no I do not believe you can. As far as the cover do you have the same exact model? If so I can look and see if I actually have a service manual.

    Great video!
I am missing a video that describes, how to remove the lid/cover on a Technichs SL-MC410 but I assume that the lid on this machine basically is removed the same way.
I ask because I have run into dificulties removing the lid. I have removed 4 screws from the back and 2X 2 from the sides of the cabinet, totally 8 screws - but the lid seems to be stuck in the front. I have no desire to use force as I can hardly imagine that this is how Japanese engineers imagined, how to get the lid loose.
Any ideas what is wrong or what the correct next step is?
If you know about a link to a video that describes this then it would make my day :)

    Hallo Sir,
I have some problems with the previous Player MC410. I am also owner of the MC7 and It works great. The problem with the MC410 is the following:
If I input the text files for the CDs, possible with ALBUM and ARTIST the data will remain untill I start a selected program. Then it happens, that some
Files will be lost. If I start the All Random Mode and let it play untill its end the entire data of every disc will be lost. I remember that there is an EPROM
Memory so may a discharged battery can not be the reason for that. Do You have heared about similair problems before and do You have any idea what
can be the reason for this? Many thanks for Your kindly help!
