  • Learn how to pour a painting and get lots of cells with just paint & water! This 24x24 canvas required a full quart of paint. It was so fun! I even included the paint I did for the 24x36 canvas -- that video will be up as soon as I get it edited :) Thanks for watching and enjoy!
    Materials:
    24" x 24" Stretched Canvas
    Canvas supports
    Plastic Sheeting
    Cups
    Stir Sticks
    Paper towels/rags
    GAC 800 -- an additive to prevent crazing (not as a pouring medium)
    Glidden Diamond - Mismatched paint in Light Tea, Old Copper Penny
    Black Diamond Pigment Powder - Copper
    Liquitex Pouring Medium (used for the copper pigment powder only)
    Artist's Loft - Brilliant Blue, Vermilion
    Liquitex Basics - Bright Aqua Green, Raw Umber

    Hi Sarah. This is absolutely amazing. I also know how nerve wrecking it is to do a canvas this big. It paid off for you. I only wish you had given us a closeup. We can tell there are hundreds of cells, but we can't really appreciate the beauty from this distance. Could you make another short video and show us a close up of your art so we can enjoy what you see being right there.
    Thanks for the awesome demo, Sarah.

    Great colors, but you say at the end "this is how to get cells with paint and water only". You added Gac800 and Liquitex Pouring Medium as well. Not to all but they are in the overall mix which could be the reason for the cells, so your video should be named to say this. Thanks for sharing.

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The paint isn't thinned with GAC 800 or pouring medium. It's thinned with water. There's a difference, but I know that had little to do with the cells because I have made cells with JUST paint and water as well. The cells look different depending on how they are made. Here's an example: th-cam.com/video/_4CKClyRjzQ/w-d-xo.html

    Beautiful Sarah. Here i have been blaming my lack of cells on the silicone brand! What is the secret? Something in the house paint? Using the fluids? , the metallic ingredients, what? I am addicted to pouring and my biggest one is 8x10. LOL. Bravo on your masterpiece.

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kathy Seek Thanks Kathy :-) I got the cells from a combination of house paint and artist paint -- the house paint has resin and pumice in the built in primer so they interact differently together!

      Sheila Bartos Thank you Shelia! I don't measure but I'll give you some suggestions. With house paint like Glidden Diamond I add a tablespoon or so of water. With artist paints I add water a little bit at a time until it flows off the stick like the Glidden Diamond does.

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JD Savage The different densities of the pigments, plus the fact that the Glidden Diamond has primer (pumice and resin), help make the cells :-)

  • @CoxJoxSox
    @CoxJoxSox 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I appreciated the past tip about Glidden Diamond mixes - I generally use that for my "white" as I think that is the heaviest - I have the paint guy add extra pigment to it also (what do you think)? I'm confused about this pour - did you say you DID use liquitex pouring medium?

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nick Doe It depends on who is working the paint counter lol. One guy (not the usual gentleman that helps me) said he couldn't mix some samples. Asking for extra pigment is a good idea! I used the pouring medium with the pigment powder -- it wouldn't have been thick enough with just water.

    ur funny! I love this pic! that one bottle of stuff that u put in each cup do i have to use it and if so where can i buy it?

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Naturally Gifted You do not have to use it; all it does is help prevent crazing. Even when I was out and didn't use it, my paintings didn't craze. Just once I had a painting craze and that was with pouring medium. Let's just say I'm over cautious. Also, everyone has different drying conditions. Try a painting without it and see how it goes :-)

    Amazing. no wonder you were shaking. did it change much during the drying time?

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christine Ravenscroft It did not change a lot. There is a picture at the end of the video. Basically it flattens as it dries and the water evaporates. This makes it less shiny, but a coat of varnish returns the shine and seals the painting.

      Nick Doe Thank you Nick :-) Yes, she's better. She has encephalitis and for a while we thought she had lost her mind -- but she's better now that the swelling has gone down.

    Beautiful... thank you! Question... I am really new to acrylic pouring and have tried everything (watched loads of tutorials) to get cells without success :( Yet here you are getting cells with nothing but water... what am I doing wrong I wonder? Very disheartening...

      Dawn Smart Have you tried using house paint and artist paint?

    Did u put the gac 800 in the house paint and water. I want to pour. You do beautiful work. You have really gotten confidence. Thanks for sharing.

    Love your videos, going to try this. What makes all the cells? Is it the Liquidtex?

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sue M Thanks Sue! The cells are formed because of the different densities of the paint, especially since the Glidden Diamond has primer in it making it a bit more dense.

    I am about to try ur technique -- how much house paint to H20? haven't gotten canvas yet - currently deciding on paint - -I got at HD this AWEDOME deep purple prob going back to get the copper penny tho - how many colors do u really need? I have cheap (I mean 50 cents a bottle cheap as well) I want to use up but really curious this will b my 1st pour
    why GAC in this video and not the other 1?

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yay Sheryl! I hope you have fun :)
      I just add a little bit of water to my house paint -- like a splash. As to how many colors, well that depends on what you are doing. recommend 4, with two house paint and two artist paint -- but you can use more. I add GAC 800 to prevent crazing. Ever since I bought a bunch of paint samples (that had apparently just been sitting at the store for a WHILE) I've added GAC 800 to those to help prevent the dye from separating from the acrylic polymer.

    hi.. im just wondering how they look like when dried.... in my first try, colours were vibrant when they were still wet....but when dried, it turned out to be dull ...i only used paint and water only...

      Hi French :) What kind of paint were you using?

    • @frenchlee1032

    Hi, how are you? I loved your work...the end result is so flawless, just by using water. Do you use heat? Also, how much paint did you use? Thanks!

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      marbemg Thanks! I did not use any heat on this canvas (although it was really hot in the room 😅). For the 24 x 24 I used a quart of paint :-)

    Hey Sarah, this is beautiful! good job
    but I have to say this is veey confusing... the title of your video says it's water and paint, in the description u wrote it's only water and paint.
    but in the video u said u mixed it with a pouring medium...
    so... what did u use?

    • @pambaskin
      @pambaskin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes she added some gac800 to each color

      She didn't write ONLY paint and water, she simply wrote with paint and water, not intentionally misleading I am sure. Beautiful work if not a bit too long to watch, but we must be tolerant of new people who need to watch every tiny thing.

    Why do you use house paint? Do you like the specific colors or is it a chemical reaction thing? I am trying to learn lol.

    • @SarahFezio
      @SarahFezio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sonya Wilson Honestly, I first started using white because it's cost effective and is thin right out of the can. I also picked up some color samples and discovered how you can easily make cells with a combination of house paint and artist paint.
