    good work on the video. Just a couple of tips i wish someone had told me much earlier. when inserting a reference plane, if you select the two opposite faces (top and bottom of the cylinder) solidworks figures you probably want the mid plane, that way if you change a dim, it'll stay mid-plane, always. also, instead of making the sketch for the axis, you can use view>view temporary axis. any cylindrical or conical feature has an axis, this is it. or just select the cylindrical face. Nice work.

    Good tutorial. To simplify the tree you could change the sketched centerline. For your pattern you can either turn on the temporary axis which will give an axis to any circular edges, or you can simply select either the upper or lower circular edge of your part that hasn't been cut by the sweep(as long as the fillet is larger than the depth of your cut). Also if your boss extrude was originally a midplane that would save you the trouble of creating a midplane of the body to mirror your cut.

    Thanks so much for the tutorial. I appreciate you so much for showing this. I had been wondering how to design something like this and you really came through. Can't wait to see your other tutorials. Great job!!!

    Good job man. A suggestion or two. When you want to fillet a surface or edge, pick the fillet tool first, then you can pick and choose surfaces or edges or whatever as your heart desires.
    Also you could have put in an axis to make your pattern about. Click on Reference Geometry then axis and choose the center of cylinder.

    Cheers pal, just trying to learn solidworks from scratch (used Pro Eng at uni), so looking to try out all the basic features. Great and easy to understand tutorial, particularly liked you referencing what keyboard shortcuts you used (ctrl +6 etc)

    Nice tutorial. I think this should be a built-in feature in solidworks 2014 so that we can create a knurl surface in one simple step.

    I program my View Temporary Axis to the "T" key on my keyboard. I also program my Measure Tool to the "M" on my keyboard. Very handy. And for a REAL thrill hit the "G" key on your keyboard !! ;=} Great Video !!

    next time when you create extrude, chose mid palne option for height. so you dont need to create extra plane, because top plane would me in middle on extrude feature

    thanx for the tutorial,, im on day 3 and i was able to follow it to completion,,nothing special about me ,but you going at a speed even a newbie can follow thanx

    Instead of making a new plane, just extrude from midplane.
    Can use the centerline when you select view center lines for the circular pattern, when you have a circular part.

    You can do this an easier way. Turn PhotView360 add in on. Select the surface, choose "Appearances", Edit color, then in the property manager,under "surface finish" switch color to Knuled, and your done.

    I know this was posted over 10 years ago and it doesn't appear that you're active on here anymore but if by chance you happen to see this, can you please tell me more about the design on your desktop? I've seen these NES coffee tables before but never one quite as cool as that. Did you do the design yourself? Did you ever make it? Hope you see this and can respond.

    I know this is an older video, but how did you get your selections to "glow" like that? I feel like my work day would be so much better if my part constantly looked like a lightsaber

      sorry dont speak english, im from mexico, y el utiliza una tarjeta grafica nvidia quadro 600, la visualizacion de la interfaz es mejor, las piezas se ponen en su material original, espero y te sirva de ayuda.

    • @TheQuicklearner75
      @TheQuicklearner75 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk if it's too late to respond to this (a year later) but you have to have a certain graphics card for solidworks to be able to give that sexy glow to your parts -- Realview. It sucks, but it's just something we have to work with/without :/

  • @dmitryponyatov2158
    @dmitryponyatov2158 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good for modeling, but not good for real: you should take real technology in mind, knurling must be done with hardened rollers, which typically have 45 degree knurls with small depth (about 0.3 mm and lesser)

    • @dmitryponyatov2158
      @dmitryponyatov2158 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dmitry Ponyatov But if you have free acess to 4-5 axes CNC, it's your turn to mill this part, not knurl :-)

    • @jeroendesterke9739
      @jeroendesterke9739 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quite right. My 2015 SW version has no 'photographic' allowance - as my SW programs before, DID. This allows far less time and energy to be used on the model.
