From my recent experience playing him, I really feel like Xiao "needs" Zhongli more than he does any other character. The benfits Zhongli provides vastly outweigh even that of a five star weapon imo.

It's not useless but it should have been a passive or a lower constelation like c2 cuz at that point the person is probably a whale and has zhongli. But even if the person has zhongli it's not like you can do 2 teams with zhongli on abyss so it still has a use case there
I agree.. I've been a xiao main since his first release and having no "stronger" shield makes it harder to use him during his Q.. You just ended up knocked back while plunging when ever an enemy attacked you..
Xiao is still one of my favorite characters by far. He's a lot of fun and his burst gives me Bleach vibes which makes me happy. That said I'd love to see him get a support character that can actually mesh well with his play style. A dedicated artifact set for him would also go a very long way
I've used Xiao a lot, and I can safely say that Xiao can deal very powerful damage, but he isn't the best at team versatility due to him needing an anemo battery, and it's really hard to get good weapons for him as a F2P, though artifacts are never a problem for him (for now), but indeed he is a really good and fun character!
I don’t think an anemo battery is the issue. A lot of different characters need a battery. But yeah his weapon choice sucks and you have to have very good investment for him to be good

In the current event we have that potion where an active character active their burst, their normal, charged and plunge damage attack increased for 15s. And Xiao's ult last for 15. This might be just a hopium but it might be the case where Mihoyo testing this out for Xiao's tailored made artifacts set in the future.
imagine if mihoyo makes an artifact that reduces opponents def by like 20% or 30% for like 15 seconds when you plunge COPIUM but i think thats too broken for xiao and kazuha

Xiao has a bad dilemma. His ulti is too strong for the overworld so using his ulti in a comission is a waste, but he is lacking in the current abyss. He is truly in a limbo right now.
I relate to this a lot. Before I got Hu Tao, I was trying to quickly clear all my commissions with Xiao because the only other option was Klee. Both my Xiao and Klee are strong, but Xiao's 2 E's could clear commissions, and I was farming friendship EXP. Now, my Hu Tao took his spot in doing commissions just because of how convenient her E is. With these recent abyss rotations, my Xiao struggles a lot on 3-starring 12-3 with all the dogs. Admittedly, he was on an ATK% goblet for a long time so it wasn't ideal, but my (c2)Klee was clearing it faster so I switched back to using her. He had Homa, a C1 Bennett with a 674 ATK weapon + level 10 Q, a Mona with a level 10 Q, and an anemo battery. I hope you can tell that I was desperate to find ways to deal more damage with that team comp lol. He really didn't have many problems in the abyss before the dogs showed up, so I hope that switching to an anemo goblet and getting a (guaranteed) Zhongli helps in future-proofing him a little. But I wouldn't be surprised if some of those issues came from the bad abyss cards I was getting and my own gameplay.

I got to say, I'm kinda disappointed. Usually, when a character gets a rerun, they either get a new dedicated arts/weapons or a new character that works best with them, but Xiao didn't get any, which makes me really sad. I like him so much, his personality, play style, and story are Interesting, and I hope that he will get the attention that he deserves in the future.
It kinda looks like mihoyo is ignoring him a bit. He doesnt have a dedicated weapon or ati set and no actual supports except zhongli or maybe albedo a bit. Hopefully stuff for him in the future because he's so good that he deserves it. New characters are getting their weapons and artist instantly but xiao got neither. It's so annoying man.
@@outofideas6541 Polearms don't need dedicated weapons. What's the point? The new polearm, jade winged spear ,SoH, Lithic Spear, BlackCliff are all good. A dedicated polearm to improve Plunge Dmg would be good but again, nearly any polearm character could use it.
@@slimstrait780 not nearly everyone can, in practical situations like spiral abyss and domains, you’d need venti to plunge and most polearm char teams have no room for venti so it’s just gonna be another niche weapon (for xiao)
Xiao could be a future proof DPS if he ever gets an artifact set and/or a dedicated support, but this is just a bet, other units like Itto have that already, I do not see him aging well as the game goes on
I can see Xiao getting a support if they want more anemo DPS characters and not just swirl machines so in the future the next time we get Anemo character geared towards damage we will probably get a support as well which would benefit Xiao
Since every other meta team is starting to ditch Zhongli, its the best time for Xiao to take him in his team instead. I've used Xiao since his first release and I've 36* every abyss with him. When he's good in abyss, he's really good. And even when he's not good in abyss, he still does respectable damage. Now, all he needs is a dedicated artifact set and a support. Or maybe a sword version of thrilling tales to give to Jean
yeah and i really think its not fair to compare him to any other dps until he gets his own set and support because other dps do. there is zero character that is talioried for xiaos kit and its sad. but still the simps will shit on him forgetting their character has a tailored artifact set and supports.

With the addition of the new pyro lectors, corrosion, and rifthounds, all of which have shield-ignoring attacks, Zhongli is finally not the ultimate solution to vulnerability in every team. Nonetheless, outside of these specific scenarios, he is still definitely the most incredible support (resistance shredding, geo resonance, a shield that’s easily the strongest in the game, looks, archon status, petrification, ability to use four piece tenacity). He is the top unit I would recommend anyone to pull, whether F2P or P2W. He makes your DPS do more damage and lets you attack relentlessly without being flinched or stunned. He is also a fairly decent DPS with crescent pike. He is very free to play friendly and can be built anywhere from a shieldbot to a burst support to a main DPS. In conclusion, Zhongli, despite being unable to prevent corrosion and attacks from rifthounds, still provides excessive utility for your account. He is definitely still a must pull for those who don’t have him.
I like to play with Xiao, and I have jade and homa for use with him, but I think that a artifact set or/and a dedicated support char is necessary to buff him, almost all 5 star char have a great 4 piece set, but Xiao just use the general elemental dmg set
Ive been a xiao main for a year and if you can try multiple times , you can clear abyss with a c0 xiao without zhongli and bennet because i did it this abyss!! But yes, this abyss is not fair for xiao
I really like the potio in the event where "After using elemental burst, increases Normal/Charged/Plunge" I have hopium that this can be a possible 4pc set for Xiao in the future. But it sounds too good to be true (but then again looking at Inazuma artifacts, they're broken af, so who knows)
I think this wont increase xiao damage that much due to nature of xiao burst (has really high damage scalling already). if u want to know more just search how xiao damage calculated. The best way to boost xiao damage is a defense reduction. Something like this: plunge attack will reduce enemy defense by x% or plunge attack ignore x% defense. This will skyrocket xiao damage to the moon.
I don't like the jumping and enemy stagger/pushing thing so I'm doing a xiao normal attack build with yunjin. Actually tried it already with a friend and he's doing around 16-20k on crit. Since he's attacking faster than he plunges it's pretty good and i don't get a headache while watching him jump all day.
@@flow2flow320its pretty good. You also stay flexible and in case that you have to jump you won't necessarily miss out on damage. Also if you have zhongli it works really well since you can do geo resonance giving you 15% dmg while shielded.
@@putent9623 i can see it being cool for some for sure. But I've noticed that it starts giving me some kinda eye ache/head ache after i keep doing it so i don't particularly like it. But it's understandable since he was supposed to be played like it.
Don't be fooled by this video. Dealing around 50k damage constantly with AoE every 2 sec is already nice and clean. You don't have to worry about reactions at all and most important you can enjoy casual gameplay just pressing your space button! :^)
Yeah, I actually think gameplay fatigue is kind of an issue with some of the "newer" characters who're more technical. Xiao is nice and easy to play while still dealing really solid damage.

I have him since day one of his first banner and he has never disappointed me! Really strong and fun unit! None of my genshin friends have regretted pulling him! He has carried me through abyss every rotation even if it doesn't favour him and i get 36 stars! Plus he is such a lovable character
Checked this video out since I've just recently reached a new peak for my Xiao build and considering I have similar damage numbers here. Unfortunately, Xiao is not gonna have an easy time with a dedicated set. He has a lot of attack and DMG% bonuses that the stats with most value are Anemo shred. Mihoyo also has to take C6 into consideration since its gameplay is significantly different. An 4oc artifact set that I think would work on Xiao is smth that shreds Anemo. Something like -- "Landing Critical Anemo DMG shreds Anemo RES by X% for 10s, stacking up to 3 times. Additionally, dealing Anemo DMG to units affected by Anemo RES down grants Y% attack for 10s (stacking up to 3 times)." Honestly, with how Xiao's kit works, the only thing he can rely on is Anemo shred since he has so much DMG% on his kit. 90%+ on his Burst alone and if you check Shimenawa's damage numbers with the 50% Plunge active, it doesn't make a significant difference since he already has so much DMG%. Xiao's been having a rough time even since release due to him not having a dedicated set and extremely strict team comps. Even with a high invested Xiao, it's rather rough. For reference, I have him triple crowned with R1 Deathmatch, 2.2k attack with the passive active and 97/200 ratio, and even then, I can only peak around 50k+ plunges with Zhongli and Bennett, I can hit higher with TTDS if I max out Bennett's weapon and Q. Meanwhile characters like, say Xiangling, can run Bennett and Kazuha with a Vape enabler and if she was as invested as my Xiao, she'd be dealing more damage than him. Iirc there was a Xiangling that I found that dealt like 80-90k easily with a similar setup, although it's Abyss and buffs exists, it's still kinda sad for Xiao. Honestly, Mihoyo did him quite dirty with his constellations too since 2 and 4 are useless if you play Xiao optimally. If was released in today's standards, he might've gotten an Anemo shred on C2 and his C6 is on C4 while C6 being a huge Crit steroid potentially, at least that's how I assume it might go. Hopefully Xiao gets more love and we get a dedicated set for him eventually (even if I spent a lot of time farming for his artifacts lol)
@@zogbi2530 You still rely on it to trigger C6. That's why my idea was based on Anemo Crit to make use of Xiao's crit ascension while making it different from Swirl DPS'. The 3 hit passive will still be easy to proc since Xiao will usually use EE Q before plunging, the only adjustment is using NA jump cancel immediately since most people usually start plunging asap
After watching how IWTL does his wish sessions, basically spending hundreds of dollars per minute with pulls at super human speed, he must really hate Xiao if he's still at C0 lol

Yeah, exactly. Albedo was in a much worse spot because he didn't even have a good weapon (besides harbinger, which was pretty useless once corrosion became a thing) but I'm really hoping they add in more artifacts and supports that will be good with Xiao.
As a f2p Xiao main from his 1st banner, I wish more people realize Xiao's limitations and not overrate him so we can finally get a dedicated artifact set for him
I have him c6 with an r4 pjws and he still couldn’t keep up with my itto when he was c2 with weapon and worst yet stole his supports and used them better than xiao could. Xiao for exploring is still pretty damn good though but I wouldn’t recommend to pickup a character only to explore with. My main explore team is zhongli albedo jean xiao because it decreases my stamina needed to climb double anemo boost and c2 jean . Makes clearing a new region quick
@@rykersixx i'm a welkin only player and i have a c0 xiao, r1 pjws and r1 homa, i've been maining him since his first banner and i can deal 151k dmg with each plunge with a 60 crit rate 285 crit damage build and without c4 jean, and i only spent 2 or 3 months farming his artifacts, they are not godrolls my bennett has a 608 base attack sword and lvl12 burst so it's not completely optimized for buffing, and i had no resonance at all in my team i made some calcs and my xiao would deal ~170k each skill with that setup, if it was c6 (3 or 4 skills in a second means a lot of damage), so i really can't understand people who say his damage is underwhelming lol, it's just that either they don't know how to build him, or they don't play him correctly
@@Marco-mv6eq that’s really high crit damage, my r5 homa build doesn’t even come close to that crit damage but my crit rate is quite a bit higher . I think you may be selling your artifacts a bit short man lol 😂. I’m 73.6 219 on my r5 homa build (anemo goblets I got are trash even after a year). Also where and how are you getting 150k? Because that also effects the test. Saying I hit 150k without a video so we can see in what case doesn’t really give us a result we can quantify. For instance I can make my itto look worse by fighting something with geo resistance like primo geo vishap.

Itto is a beast, he can nearly out dps hu tao but to top it off he isn't single target so he ends up shitting on a top tier dps like her, so honestly the fact that itto is doing quite a bit more damage than xiao is ait, especially since xiao has a lot of space to improve, y'know like better supports.

Yeah, there's absolutely nothing "peak potential" about this Xiao showcase. My f2p 90 Xiao does 31k per plunge without his team and he's not even heavy investment. This guy just hates male dps characters.

Exactly one week and one hour ago I finally got my Xiao. It was such a long wait and I was rly regretting that I skipped him the first time. I also got very lucky and sniped the PJWS from the weapon banner which freed my Homa for Zhongli. (I was a Hu Tao main up until last week.) One day later I got my first 36 star clear ever with Eula Ei in the first half and Xiao GEO but with traveler instead of Albedo in the second half. I`d say that I was pretty impresses with his performance, he is a great chara even now and I`d gladly recommend him to everyone that loves his playstyle. Don`t make my mistake, go for him if you want him, because I think he will come back again for the next lantern rite which is a whole year away from now and trust me, the wait is very painful.
Yeah I got unlucky and accidentally pulled ganyu on her first run, I was a noob then and just started saving lol. Now his back so I'm pulling for him on my old main PSN account, I can't fucking wait, he is so funnnnnnnnnn (at least his trial). Goodddd I can't wait.
Weirdly enough, I accidentally made a good xiao build. When i was farming boss materials for characters, i got some really gladiators artifacts. I got 66% crit rate and 185% crit damage, without factoring in any crit weapons
Well abyss always changes. It favours to the current character release. During raiden's release high tide and low tide was available in abyss floor 12 due to which she was not good. But now we use her often in abyss. As a xiao main i can say that if you like him pull for him. He will not hold you back. Also his weapon is available in standard banner so you might get it luckly.

literally my favorite character in the game. I was lucky enough to get a homa in one of the recent weapon's banner and my Xiao is the strongest character I have. I like him and his lore so much that I got a tattoo of him lol
Xiao is specialize in term of Aoe dmg only, just like Childe. Their single target dmg is quite fall behind nowaday. But for current contents they're still very good for f2p & light spenders (realistic build). But they has to go with specifict right teammates to 9* floor 12
But childe's hydro element, his team synergies and nuke allows him to stay top in meta in his childe international team(I believe it's considered the no.1 meta team followed by Raiden national online). Xiao being anemo and not being synergistic with any character in game (except for zhongli and maybe albedo), really pulls him back as the game is getting progressively tougher especially abyss floor 12.
I'm guessing you don't have xiao? 40k solo plunges every .75 seconds for around 11-13 plunges deals around 440-500k, around a Massive aoe which I assume is not enough for you?
I've seen Lithic Spear can also really being home the bacon, even at R1/R2. He's a fun character who still has some flexible options, so hopefully people wrong be dissuaded from rolling for him, considering how mobile and unique he is, which may be exactly what some people are looking for in a unit as a breath of fresh air.
I thought Mihoyo will introduce his own artifact set but here we are yet again lol. He's still good enough to clear the abyss but you gotta have a 5star weapon or zhongli with him along with well built supports.
I agree, I helped my friend to clear his floor 12 and his xiao was stack af including his supports and there's me considering to pull him knowing that his team comp and weapon choices would be most suited for a 5 star instead of 4 star. Overall he's still fun to play ngl

I am completely f2p Xiao main Double crowned and without any buffs I'm doing roughly 37k with blackcliff but it's 50k. With Bennet in CO op I have done 68k but I don't use Bennet.
I definitely agree with everything that was said in this video. This was the first Abyss since the first time I've run the Abyss with Xiao that I've just been barely able to eke out a 36 star, with 7:01 on the clock on the last chamber. This was with a C1 Xiao with PJWS, albeit with less cracked artifacts than IWTL's. The terrible match-up against the current Abyss enemies is one thing, but it's becoming increasingly apparent that Xiao's DPS is just becoming inadequate for the massive HP pools that they're throwing at us. Hopefully the next rotations will go in his favor, but Xiao definitely needs something to bolster his damage to remain competitive, whether that's with a dedicated artifact set or a specialized anemo support character.

@@lifepasses1875 i mean, they are going to introduce wolf boss, and new wishaps. Also 12-3 will have even more hp, if i'm not mistaken. It's all just rumours, and i hope false ones. I think soon 12-2 and 12-3 will be so annoying, that i simply will stop caring and even trying. Even with full melt ganyu and hutao, it is damn painful.
Your thoroughness is much appreciated and paints a much better picture of what it's like to play one of these characters. Even if you are not F2P not everyone throws their wallets at resources like crowns etc.
8:22 bunch of energy? Look at his burst icon after it just ended without switching to any other characters. Using two or three if c1 Es regenerates about 20-25% of his burst. The duration of the burst is 18 seconds and the cooldown of 1 E is 10 seconds. Use 2 Es after the burst and he is basically good to go again.
This is mainly an issue for content that requires more than two rotations. He prefunneled Xiao's first burst meaning his second burst was already 25% of the way there, got another 25% from clear monster particles and needed 2 Es after the burst + Sucrose to get his second burst up. This means after he finishes the second burst, he will only have the clear particles from the second rotation and the two Es that come off of cooldown to build up the third burst. This is his true downtime where he needs to wait for skills to come off cooldown.
@@HOGPO he’s running xiao on literally 105 er, his entire build is scuffed because of it. If he had ~120 er then he’d have the 3s downtime instead of whatever tf he was doing here.
Funnily enough, Zhongli is actually very f2p friendly. Why? Easy, cuz unless you’re a dodge god or Beidou/Yun Jin god then you’re gonna know Zhongli’s having a rerun the moment it’s announced and he’s gonna hold the absolute highest priority over all other characters, at least if you don’t have him already. If you still can’t get him on his banner even though leaks or even rumors start months ahead, you’re probably not farming enough or you don’t have guaranteed pity, and if you do have guaranteed pity without having Zhongli then you’re gonna save that until his next banner rerun even without any rumors or leaks whatsoever. Know how I know? Cuz that’s what I was like. And now I have him. Also, Zhongli is recognized by the whole fandom as Xiao’s dad, for lore and gameplay this makes sense.

I don't understand all the people saying xiao is tied to zhongli. Shields are nice and all but I've never paired him with a shielder except early on when I didn't have many chars to slot him with. The only situation where he would want a shield is probably against ruin guards who trigger their homing missiles just by plunging.
My fav team is still Xiao, Jean/Sucrose/Sayu with fav sword, Albedo and Zhongli This way I can use Bennett in my other team and Albedo damage easily surpass Bennett damage buff on Xiao since it is active 100% of the time and no energy management needed. Bennett is just too valuable as he could make many top tier team possible like national, rational, reverse melt, etc etc so having Xiao, Ganyu, Hu Tao or other DPS that doesn't rely on him is important on the second team. Problem is you would need 3-4 5 star in a team which compete with Morgana when it come to primo cost but with the rerun coming faster thanks to the new banner system it isn't difficult to get what you want even as F2P with some saving.

I'm f2p farming for artifacts on and off for a while now and my xiao is about as good as that so id say this video is accurate, except I dont have zhongli but i still manage to do about ~50k in abyss with the right team and ~60k with food I'm still trying to find the perfect balance of crit rate, dmg, atk%, anemo dmg and energy recharge (ER just for personal preference for running around in game cause I dont like using sucrose and jeans not much of a battery) but yea id say he's pretty good This video is really tempting me to pull for zhongli though lmao but im not risking the 50/50 on yae, no way, my love for her goes beyond meta hahahaha
I am also skiping him for Yae or any new chars. I just dont like him enogh to waste my primos on. And my Xiao actualy does okey only with Benny and Kazuha
@@zephyraxthegreat I think he refers to the collision damage. So Xiao can dealt 2 instance of damage from 1 plunge. Collision damage + plunge hit. That's why he said "during plunge" instead "during Burst".
I use Xiao on the abyss ever since I got him back on his release, playing with him is rather comfortable since he's not mechanically heavy, and having two geo characters on his team (I use Albedo and Zhongli) helps a lot
Xiao was my first main DPS back in February last year so when the current weapon banner came with as much of a guarantee of a polearm as you can ever expect I decided to throw everything into that one. Ended up getting the Jade-Winged though, so it was worth it.

Ppl talk about his artifact set and supports. But I think his bigger issue is that the corrosion effect which was introduced to combat shields greatly impacts Xiao the most. With his HP depletion during his burst (self corrosion), shields being less useful, and not being able to swap out of his burst you end up in situations where your HP could drop so incredibly fast you might have to end his burst early just so you don't die. And there aren't many options that will heal your whole team while Xiao is stuck on field in his burst. Hutao's mechanism is much better in this regard since it's not a constant ticking down. I think allowing him to gain energy while in his burst or allowing you to swap characters during burst would be a good improvement to his kit
I was new to the game this January. I wanted Itto, but only had access to his banner for a couple days. The Xiao rerun became available and of all the few characters I knew anything about, he was the one I identified with... wish... wish... nothing. I didn't understand pity and just thought all wishes had same chance. So after wiffing on 6 10 pulls or so about 3 weeks into the game I tried 1 10 pull on Shenhe... got her! But now Xiao was inaccessible. I got my 5 star, pity reset and and needed to save primogems. Then I got Zongli, and Ganyu, etc. Once I understood pity I succeeded in 90% of my attempts. And now I finally got my chance to get Xiao and i got him with only 70 pity. I couldn't be more pleased. But now I have to build him. Oof. Currently the plan is Deathmatch, with half gladiator and half VV. Yes i know the new set is better for his burst, but only by 10%, it's weaker on his other skills,and getting a good full set will take months of farming. Even getting him to 90 with full talents is going to be a struggle. I currently only have 1 core team of characters to 89, plus lvl 80 weapons, and talents to around 6 or so. Gear is pretty mixed still. I'd consider trying to get his Spear, except I also want to save to get Itto, my first 5 star failure to acquire. Is the new set so much better such that its worth it? What should my first hard-core investment be, vv, full 999 talents? I'd think order of importance would be: 90, then weapon to 90, then starter gladiator gear to 20, then talents to 999, then hunt for better gear or better weapon.
I'm really happy that I got him in just one 10 pull. I'm AR45, he's lvl 80/80, with a lvl 80 blackcliff polearm, 2 piece vv and 2 piece glad with pretty decent stats with talents lvl 8,7,8 and he performs very well I have to say, he is one of my strongest dps alongside my f2p Shougun with The Catch R4 and I'm definitely love him, and I'm gonna pull Zhongli for him. He is great character even after a year of genahin's release, with fun gameplay and in my opinion great AOE DMG.
What Artifact set would you give him? All the DPS have mutliple sets to use. It just really depends on your set up. 2 set Glad and Shime are good if you have a low base atk Polearm. If you have a 5* Polearm, use Anemo Dmg 2 piece instead.

Weve seen a lot of meta changes since emblem set made it feasible to build high er burst supports like xiangling and xq better than they were before. Even free to play, it's just assumed you won't even try running Xiao without at least one 5* support. Since you asked, I think _since his release_ Xiao has been the single most overrated character in the game. Lately I've seen other people singing the same tune, so maybe that's actually less true now than it was when he was released (I want to stress that Xiao didn't get worse, we just got past the few abyss cycles and events that were tailour made to be wrecked by Xiao and Hu Tao to make them feel stronger; Abyss floors rewarded Anemo users, which basically meant Venti or Xiao since even now the only other respectable Anemo DPS, as in DPS in the form of Anemo damage, is Kazuha, and events and abyssal moons were all "when your active character is below 50% health" for about two or three months to reward people who pulled (nOn-KeQiNg) banner 5*s during Lantern Rite). However, second in the running was Hu Tao imo, but while she's overrated as a DPS she's always been a solid support character, and the Shimenawa set made her both stronger and more practical to use overall (though like Xiao she has serious uptime issues- The single most-"needed" buff to Xiao would be a single character that heals and generates anemo energy while off-field with a ~15 second duration, despite people whining about how he has no artifact set tuned to him specifically). For any element- or health-level-agnostic content (and keep in mind that to reverse community opinion on Kokomi recently-released large enemies can all be frozen and deal DOT but more importantly we're back to being rewarded for having HIGH health in events, not low), Xiao REQUIRES 5* supports to function even adequately, whereas several all-4* or one-5* carry and rotation-style teams (especially variations on the national team) are still able to effortlessly stomp abyss and still dominate abyss usage stats. To function as well as just a c4 Xiangling with a c0 Chongyun as support assuming both have Bennett, Xiao requires, and has always required, both C4 Albedo and C4 Jean. That's three 5*s, two of which are limited, and two of which (not the same two, granted) are high-constellation. The core problems with Xiao are numerous. Most characters, especially 5*s, have one flaw that either keeps them from being overpowered or encourages you to build around offsetting that flaw. Xiao is nothing but flaws, though. Plunging attacks are inherently the least practical form of attack in the game because of the godawful auto-adjusting camera with a slow y axis and the fact that they're the only regular attacks that cannot be canceled by a dodge, while Xiao's jump and plunge from start to finish is longer than the time it takes many enemies to start their tell and hit you. He has constantly self-health-drain, which along with the previous point means that without a healer you aren't just one _mistake_ from death at all times, you're one _misfortune_ from death. As an anemo DPS, the sole anemo main DPS in the game in fact, Xiao has no access to shred outside of 5* supports (Zhongli, Venti and Jean) and the otherwise-awful Anemo MC (technically also a 5* support but that's not a hair I'm willing to devalue my intellectual honesty by splitting). Yet he also can't generate energy during his Q for some completely nonsense reason, so he requires an anemo battery (Jean, Sucrose, Kazuha or Sayu), which really sucks because every anemo battery besides pre-nerf Fischl is an on-field battery only, and Fischl is now permanently post-nerf (her turbo was removed, so she no longer generates enough electro particles to battery literally any character of any element like she used to). IMO it's actually a minor issue compared to the big deal that Xiao mains make about this one thing of all the things actually wrong with him, but I'll go ahead and add that yeah, he has no artifact set that synergises with him. Meanwhile there is actually one other character who has almost the exact same gimmick as Xiao (being an extremely selfish DPS with a high-potential-uptime Q that buffs their damage to an extraordinary degree, not the plunging thing, though he can dragonstrike with the best of them): Razor. Razor is pretty much Xiao's polar opposite. He has no health drain, the support he NEEDS is minimal and thus highly flexible (essentially any off-field cryo applier that isn't Chongyu, all of which are good for him for more than just superconduct without requiring any 5* constellations, eg Rosaria (crit rate buff, universally useful), Diona (enables dragonstrikes as well), Shenhe (a good candidate who also buffs his physical damage), hell, even Qiqi (also makes him pretty much unkillable), and that's it), he not only generates his own energy but is arguably the best at it _in the entire game_ to offset the disadvantage of being punished for switching characters, and even when you do switch characters during his Q, to re-up buffs for example, he gets some energy refunded. The only bad thing about the character is you can't benefit from Chongyun's CD reduction on him, but he cancels the CD on his own E when he uses his Q anyway, so that's really only a punishment if you swap characters mid-Q a lot. Kind of the nail in the coffin imo is how many near-buffs he has received lately. What I mean by that is that for example Severed Fate would make Xiao far more usable AND brutally strong, totally overcoming the need for C4 Jean and Albedo to perform over more typical supports like Bennett and Zhongli... If the 4pc actually affected his damage bonus like it does Raiden's. The Catch is exactly the same thing, finally a free to play weapon that would have synergised with Xiao. Yun Jin is the first real buff Xiao has received, and would almost make him work with Shimenawa and erase all his downsides (just as Shimenawa did for Hu Tao's terrible Q being a damage-ruiner), if all his Q did was let him spam plunges and infuse his weapon, but it also doubles his normal attack damage, so even if you run him with Yun Jin and White Tassel, his BIS artifact set is 4pc Gladiator's or Bolide (depending on whether he's relying on a shield), and the only problems she actually solves for him are his reliance on plunging attacks and his reliance on Albedo, by shifting his focus to normals.
Then we have my friend, who have Ganyu's signature bow, doesn't have any good weapon for Xiao but will pull for him instead of Ganyu anyway... _But of course, the point on playing a game is having fun, so I have absolutely no problem with her choice_

F2P people do not get a lot of starglitters and we usually need them for either characters in the shop or more wishes because it is hard to get characters already. Saying "save starglitters" to a F2P means "just save for a few months then you can finally get an okay weapon for him"
The only reason Xiao didnt really shine is cause of Artifact. Genshin know how potentially broken Xiao can be, if they eventually release something that boost Wind+Lunge bonus damage like they did with Physical Attacker and Zhong Li artifact. Its pretty understandable not to tilt the balance anymore.
from a pure meta perspective I'd say this is rather an argument AGAINST pulling for Xiao. Abyss shows no sign of getting easier in the future, so if a peak F2P Xiao with Zhongli and Bennett(!!!) barely beats abyss 12.3 in 90sec, what hope does a freshly pulled Xiao today have? Sure you could argue "just pull X 5^ weapon" but IMO that's one of the worst advices you could give to F2P gamers. People are going to pull for Xiao and Zhongli now hoping to 100% every endgame content only to be disappointed a few months from now when they could be pulling Ganyu or other more future-proof chars who don't rely on Bennett, leaving the latter for non-5* meta teams like national. Also, non-F2P Xiaos shouldnt even comment here, cause even a 10% difference in power could mean that you have to do another full rotation of 30sec, which you definitely can't afford in abyss. Of course, if you really just like the character and want to dedicate all your resources to him, just pull. This is just from a meta/36* abyss perspective.

Also 106,5 er is barely usably on xiao it took him 25 seconds to get back into xiao burst at the end. More ER would have shaved down on a lot of time. You dont run 106% er on itto and take him to the first half. He needs more and you run him on the second half.
I'm new to xiao but i loved his autos x) and made a video AAing, raiden was pretty important (c0) but still got it done and it was very fun, hopefully we'll see more characters that can help xiao
Xiao has always been my favorite. I lucked up and got him on his first banner run. Death match on him with decent veridecent and gladiator set has my crit rate at 74% and crit dmg 144%. He averages 12-16k with his Q which considering how long it last is nothing to scoff at. My sucrose is also very well built since I ran the viridescent domain for Xiao so many times. Those two together dominates most content for me except spiral abyss but I don’t play enough to really grind it anyways. I typically run Diona or Bennet because Xiao desperately needs a healer. Barbara isn’t bad either. Toss in Fiscl who’s great off field due to Oz which really plays well to Xiao’s selfish gameplay. It’s a damn good team. I keep trying to switch it up and try other teams but I always go back to Xiao. For me he’s always been my strongest and most fun. I’m mostly F2P and don’t play often so I guess I find it a lot harder to build other characters compared to him. The Viridescent domain is so easy to run.
I’m completely f2p my xiao does around 60k plunges with team buffs he also has the catch and i know it doesn’t do anything but I like the er stat and it being high base attack
I use to have him like 1851 of atk, and 75/220 with blackcliff, now I got his polearm, the Jade Spear by accident in the weapon banner, and I got him like 2,608 of atk, and 83/187. My Xiao is a beast, I want to crown him, bt I'm broke and Zhongli it's almost there. ;;;
I feel so bad while choosing between Zhongli and Xiao. I wanted Xiao since his first banner and was preparing for his rerun with rolling homa for him. I do have a guarantee pity, but only for one character. But know seeing how much Zhonlgi is needed for him I feel myself rolling more towards him. My account does have some good dps and I dont have problems with that. I really would like to have zhongli also because I run Eula with the unfordge and always using her with diano isn't the best. Everything is getting even worse because now shields are getting nefred and or not so op as they used to be. Feeling myself go crazy 😤
Dude I have exact same dilemma. I have Hu Tao as my main dps, but wanted Xiao for the longest time. On other hand Zhongli will be useful everywhere. Have 11 days left to decide😔
I have been a Xiao main since he was released and my favorite comps to run with him are 2 DPSs (one being xiao), with two supports, one for each dps. For example: Xiao, jean, childe, fishle; Xiao, sucrose, bennet, yoimiya; xiao, jean, ayaka, xiangling. Even something like 2 anemo, 2 geo is fun. This is mainly because its kinda hard to find a bunch of supports to boost xiaos damage (basically just bennet) and for me, its pretty easy to avoid damage by jumping at the correct times & using some minor heals. I am able to take advantage of most main DPSs downtime this way and has even been a great way of finding hidden good team comps with my characters.
As a Xiao main myself for almost a year now I really recommend pulling for Xiao because his a beast in Spiral Abyss specially if there's so many enemies but the down side of him at first his so hard to play because he has one of the most unique play style in the game but overall his a really F2P friendly and can carry your whole team just add Benette with Xiao you will get his max potential

I used to run xiao with lithic spear ..he was doing 25k to 30k raw damage..now I got lucky with PJS he does 35k-40k raw damage ..artifact's are moderate..I hope he gets a artifact set for him ..
In the current event we have that potion where an active character active their burst, their normal, charged and plunge damage attack increased for 15s. And Xiao's ult last for 15. This might be just a hopium but it might be the case where Mihoyo testing this out for Xiao's tailored made artifacts set in the future.

To be honest i have very regret to pulling for xiao he may do alot of damage and it look so good when see the showcase but when you actually play him then alot of problem start to show up and i wish i have never pull him in the first play.

@@KienNguyen-lq1yo I can say you are right the trial isn't good to tell a character strength. I will say you are bad at identifying weaknesses. Here are some points. - What Visap drains energy? - One anemo battery fixes Xiao energy issue. Sucrose being the best option. - Xiao's hp drain is not that bad even when corrosion is up. Nearly every healer in Genshin can make corrosion null and void. The only exceptions being Diona and Barbara. - If someone is looking to pull Xiao then they are after a damage dealer. A shielder like Zhongli or a buffer like Kazuha is probably not on their radar. - Who is more fun to play is subjective to you. I find Xiao and Kazuha equally fun. Kazuha however is a bit less dynamic since he mainly just does skill into ult. A lot of your complaints sound like someone who barely played Xiao. I am not calling you out but pointing out where you're wrong. You can leave your Xiao on the bench though.
I got xiao the first day his banner dropped and with the blackliff pole I'm already hitting for around 19k I've been farming artifacts like crazy but I love his gameplay alot so it's easy to farm for him because it never gets boring thanks for the vid.
Putting aside the fun factor which is very subjective, what I don't get after reading lots of comments here is that, why do most players make it look like the lack of dedicated artifact, dedicated support etc. are the only reasons why his peak f2p potential seem somehow lacking a bit? I mean there were other older dps characters that also didn't have a dedicated artifact set and dedicated support until just recently but no one complained about it. Imo on his first release, I already thought that his overall gameplay design,element,kits etc. never really screamed future proof, so a slight fall off was to be expected specially after a year or so.
From my recent experience playing him, I really feel like Xiao "needs" Zhongli more than he does any other character. The benfits Zhongli provides vastly outweigh even that of a five star weapon imo.

I agree.. I've been a xiao main since his first release and having no "stronger" shield makes it harder to use him during his Q.. You just ended up knocked back while plunging when ever an enemy attacked you..
Xiao is still one of my favorite characters by far. He's a lot of fun and his burst gives me Bleach vibes which makes me happy. That said I'd love to see him get a support character that can actually mesh well with his play style. A dedicated artifact set for him would also go a very long way

I've used Xiao a lot, and I can safely say that Xiao can deal very powerful damage, but he isn't the best at team versatility due to him needing an anemo battery, and it's really hard to get good weapons for him as a F2P, though artifacts are never a problem for him (for now), but indeed he is a really good and fun character!
I don’t think an anemo battery is the issue. A lot of different characters need a battery. But yeah his weapon choice sucks and you have to have very good investment for him to be good

Xiao has a bad dilemma. His ulti is too strong for the overworld so using his ulti in a comission is a waste, but he is lacking in the current abyss. He is truly in a limbo right now.

I relate to this a lot. Before I got Hu Tao, I was trying to quickly clear all my commissions with Xiao because the only other option was Klee. Both my Xiao and Klee are strong, but Xiao's 2 E's could clear commissions, and I was farming friendship EXP. Now, my Hu Tao took his spot in doing commissions just because of how convenient her E is.
With these recent abyss rotations, my Xiao struggles a lot on 3-starring 12-3 with all the dogs. Admittedly, he was on an ATK% goblet for a long time so it wasn't ideal, but my (c2)Klee was clearing it faster so I switched back to using her. He had Homa, a C1 Bennett with a 674 ATK weapon + level 10 Q, a Mona with a level 10 Q, and an anemo battery. I hope you can tell that I was desperate to find ways to deal more damage with that team comp lol.
He really didn't have many problems in the abyss before the dogs showed up, so I hope that switching to an anemo goblet and getting a (guaranteed) Zhongli helps in future-proofing him a little. But I wouldn't be surprised if some of those issues came from the bad abyss cards I was getting and my own gameplay.

I got to say, I'm kinda disappointed. Usually, when a character gets a rerun, they either get a new dedicated arts/weapons or a new character that works best with them, but Xiao didn't get any, which makes me really sad. I like him so much, his personality, play style, and story are Interesting, and I hope that he will get the attention that he deserves in the future.
It kinda looks like mihoyo is ignoring him a bit. He doesnt have a dedicated weapon or ati set and no actual supports except zhongli or maybe albedo a bit. Hopefully stuff for him in the future because he's so good that he deserves it. New characters are getting their weapons and artist instantly but xiao got neither. It's so annoying man.

Since every other meta team is starting to ditch Zhongli, its the best time for Xiao to take him in his team instead. I've used Xiao since his first release and I've 36* every abyss with him. When he's good in abyss, he's really good. And even when he's not good in abyss, he still does respectable damage. Now, all he needs is a dedicated artifact set and a support. Or maybe a sword version of thrilling tales to give to Jean

With the addition of the new pyro lectors, corrosion, and rifthounds, all of which have shield-ignoring attacks, Zhongli is finally not the ultimate solution to vulnerability in every team. Nonetheless, outside of these specific scenarios, he is still definitely the most incredible support (resistance shredding, geo resonance, a shield that’s easily the strongest in the game, looks, archon status, petrification, ability to use four piece tenacity). He is the top unit I would recommend anyone to pull, whether F2P or P2W. He makes your DPS do more damage and lets you attack relentlessly without being flinched or stunned. He is also a fairly decent DPS with crescent pike. He is very free to play friendly and can be built anywhere from a shieldbot to a burst support to a main DPS. In conclusion, Zhongli, despite being unable to prevent corrosion and attacks from rifthounds, still provides excessive utility for your account. He is definitely still a must pull for those who don’t have him.
I like to play with Xiao, and I have jade and homa for use with him, but I think that a artifact set or/and a dedicated support char is necessary to buff him, almost all 5 star char have a great 4 piece set, but Xiao just use the general elemental dmg set
Ive been a xiao main for a year and if you can try multiple times , you can clear abyss with a c0 xiao without zhongli and bennet because i did it this abyss!! But yes, this abyss is not fair for xiao

I think this wont increase xiao damage that much due to nature of xiao burst (has really high damage scalling already). if u want to know more just search how xiao damage calculated. The best way to boost xiao damage is a defense reduction. Something like this: plunge attack will reduce enemy defense by x% or plunge attack ignore x% defense. This will skyrocket xiao damage to the moon.

Fun fact : Xiao can benefit from cryo resonances, so if ever you need the extra crit rate you can use Diona along with an additional cryo support.
Especially when its multiple enemies. Like a QIQi and a Rosaria, you swirl the cryo between everybody and the status keeps getting reapplied.
I recommend Rosaria for additional crit. This way you'll not only get the crits from cryo resonance but also from her ult's passive.
I don't like the jumping and enemy stagger/pushing thing so I'm doing a xiao normal attack build with yunjin. Actually tried it already with a friend and he's doing around 16-20k on crit. Since he's attacking faster than he plunges it's pretty good and i don't get a headache while watching him jump all day.
I just got Xiao and thought about it too, especially cause playing on mobile ! I ll try it !
@@flow2flow320its pretty good. You also stay flexible and in case that you have to jump you won't necessarily miss out on damage. Also if you have zhongli it works really well since you can do geo resonance giving you 15% dmg while shielded.

Yeah, I actually think gameplay fatigue is kind of an issue with some of the "newer" characters who're more technical. Xiao is nice and easy to play while still dealing really solid damage.

Checked this video out since I've just recently reached a new peak for my Xiao build and considering I have similar damage numbers here.
Unfortunately, Xiao is not gonna have an easy time with a dedicated set. He has a lot of attack and DMG% bonuses that the stats with most value are Anemo shred. Mihoyo also has to take C6 into consideration since its gameplay is significantly different.
An 4oc artifact set that I think would work on Xiao is smth that shreds Anemo. Something like -- "Landing Critical Anemo DMG shreds Anemo RES by X% for 10s, stacking up to 3 times. Additionally, dealing Anemo DMG to units affected by Anemo RES down grants Y% attack for 10s (stacking up to 3 times)."
Honestly, with how Xiao's kit works, the only thing he can rely on is Anemo shred since he has so much DMG% on his kit. 90%+ on his Burst alone and if you check Shimenawa's damage numbers with the 50% Plunge active, it doesn't make a significant difference since he already has so much DMG%.
Xiao's been having a rough time even since release due to him not having a dedicated set and extremely strict team comps. Even with a high invested Xiao, it's rather rough. For reference, I have him triple crowned with R1 Deathmatch, 2.2k attack with the passive active and 97/200 ratio, and even then, I can only peak around 50k+ plunges with Zhongli and Bennett, I can hit higher with TTDS if I max out Bennett's weapon and Q. Meanwhile characters like, say Xiangling, can run Bennett and Kazuha with a Vape enabler and if she was as invested as my Xiao, she'd be dealing more damage than him. Iirc there was a Xiangling that I found that dealt like 80-90k easily with a similar setup, although it's Abyss and buffs exists, it's still kinda sad for Xiao.
Honestly, Mihoyo did him quite dirty with his constellations too since 2 and 4 are useless if you play Xiao optimally. If was released in today's standards, he might've gotten an Anemo shred on C2 and his C6 is on C4 while C6 being a huge Crit steroid potentially, at least that's how I assume it might go.
Hopefully Xiao gets more love and we get a dedicated set for him eventually (even if I spent a lot of time farming for his artifacts lol)

@@zogbi2530 You still rely on it to trigger C6. That's why my idea was based on Anemo Crit to make use of Xiao's crit ascension while making it different from Swirl DPS'. The 3 hit passive will still be easy to proc since Xiao will usually use EE Q before plunging, the only adjustment is using NA jump cancel immediately since most people usually start plunging asap

I have him c6 with an r4 pjws and he still couldn’t keep up with my itto when he was c2 with weapon and worst yet stole his supports and used them better than xiao could. Xiao for exploring is still pretty damn good though but I wouldn’t recommend to pickup a character only to explore with.
My main explore team is zhongli albedo jean xiao because it decreases my stamina needed to climb double anemo boost and c2 jean . Makes clearing a new region quick
@@rykersixx i'm a welkin only player and i have a c0 xiao, r1 pjws and r1 homa, i've been maining him since his first banner and i can deal 151k dmg with each plunge with a 60 crit rate 285 crit damage build and without c4 jean, and i only spent 2 or 3 months farming his artifacts, they are not godrolls
my bennett has a 608 base attack sword and lvl12 burst so it's not completely optimized for buffing, and i had no resonance at all in my team
i made some calcs and my xiao would deal ~170k each skill with that setup, if it was c6 (3 or 4 skills in a second means a lot of damage), so i really can't understand people who say his damage is underwhelming lol, it's just that either they don't know how to build him, or they don't play him correctly

I think you may be selling your artifacts a bit short man lol 😂. I’m 73.6 219 on my r5 homa build (anemo goblets I got are trash even after a year). Also where and how are you getting 150k? Because that also effects the test. Saying I hit 150k without a video so we can see in what case doesn’t really give us a result we can quantify. For instance I can make my itto look worse by fighting something with geo resistance like primo geo vishap.

Exactly one week and one hour ago I finally got my Xiao. It was such a long wait and I was rly regretting that I skipped him the first time. I also got very lucky and sniped the PJWS from the weapon banner which freed my Homa for Zhongli. (I was a Hu Tao main up until last week.) One day later I got my first 36 star clear ever with Eula Ei in the first half and Xiao GEO but with traveler instead of Albedo in the second half. I`d say that I was pretty impresses with his performance, he is a great chara even now and I`d gladly recommend him to everyone that loves his playstyle. Don`t make my mistake, go for him if you want him, because I think he will come back again for the next lantern rite which is a whole year away from now and trust me, the wait is very painful.

Weirdly enough, I accidentally made a good xiao build. When i was farming boss materials for characters, i got some really gladiators artifacts. I got 66% crit rate and 185% crit damage, without factoring in any crit weapons
Well abyss always changes. It favours to the current character release. During raiden's release high tide and low tide was available in abyss floor 12 due to which she was not good. But now we use her often in abyss. As a xiao main i can say that if you like him pull for him. He will not hold you back. Also his weapon is available in standard banner so you might get it luckly.

Xiao is specialize in term of Aoe dmg only, just like Childe. Their single target dmg is quite fall behind nowaday. But for current contents they're still very good for f2p & light spenders (realistic build). But they has to go with specifict right teammates to 9* floor 12
But childe's hydro element, his team synergies and nuke allows him to stay top in meta in his childe international team(I believe it's considered the no.1 meta team followed by Raiden national online).
Xiao being anemo and not being synergistic with any character in game (except for zhongli and maybe albedo), really pulls him back as the game is getting progressively tougher especially abyss floor 12.

I've seen Lithic Spear can also really being home the bacon, even at R1/R2. He's a fun character who still has some flexible options, so hopefully people wrong be dissuaded from rolling for him, considering how mobile and unique he is, which may be exactly what some people are looking for in a unit as a breath of fresh air.
I pulled Xiao this time.... Ngl I really enjoying his gameplay and he can easily hit 25-30k without any buff (benny, pyro reso, ttds) with blackliff.

I am completely f2p Xiao main Double crowned and without any buffs I'm doing roughly 37k with blackcliff but it's 50k. With Bennet in CO op I have done 68k but I don't use Bennet.
I definitely agree with everything that was said in this video. This was the first Abyss since the first time I've run the Abyss with Xiao that I've just been barely able to eke out a 36 star, with 7:01 on the clock on the last chamber. This was with a C1 Xiao with PJWS, albeit with less cracked artifacts than IWTL's. The terrible match-up against the current Abyss enemies is one thing, but it's becoming increasingly apparent that Xiao's DPS is just becoming inadequate for the massive HP pools that they're throwing at us. Hopefully the next rotations will go in his favor, but Xiao definitely needs something to bolster his damage to remain competitive, whether that's with a dedicated artifact set or a specialized anemo support character.

8:22 bunch of energy? Look at his burst icon after it just ended without switching to any other characters. Using two or three if c1 Es regenerates about 20-25% of his burst. The duration of the burst is 18 seconds and the cooldown of 1 E is 10 seconds. Use 2 Es after the burst and he is basically good to go again.
This is mainly an issue for content that requires more than two rotations.
He prefunneled Xiao's first burst meaning his second burst was already 25% of the way there, got another 25% from clear monster particles and needed 2 Es after the burst + Sucrose to get his second burst up.
This means after he finishes the second burst, he will only have the clear particles from the second rotation and the two Es that come off of cooldown to build up the third burst. This is his true downtime where he needs to wait for skills to come off cooldown.
Clearly needs a bunch if it took him 25 seconds to re enter burst for the last rotation
@@HOGPO he’s running xiao on literally 105 er, his entire build is scuffed because of it. If he had ~120 er then he’d have the 3s downtime instead of whatever tf he was doing here.

Funnily enough, Zhongli is actually very f2p friendly. Why? Easy, cuz unless you’re a dodge god or Beidou/Yun Jin god then you’re gonna know Zhongli’s having a rerun the moment it’s announced and he’s gonna hold the absolute highest priority over all other characters, at least if you don’t have him already. If you still can’t get him on his banner even though leaks or even rumors start months ahead, you’re probably not farming enough or you don’t have guaranteed pity, and if you do have guaranteed pity without having Zhongli then you’re gonna save that until his next banner rerun even without any rumors or leaks whatsoever. Know how I know? Cuz that’s what I was like. And now I have him. Also, Zhongli is recognized by the whole fandom as Xiao’s dad, for lore and gameplay this makes sense.

I don't understand all the people saying xiao is tied to zhongli. Shields are nice and all but I've never paired him with a shielder except early on when I didn't have many chars to slot him with. The only situation where he would want a shield is probably against ruin guards who trigger their homing missiles just by plunging.

My fav team is still Xiao, Jean/Sucrose/Sayu with fav sword, Albedo and Zhongli
This way I can use Bennett in my other team and Albedo damage easily surpass Bennett damage buff on Xiao since it is active 100% of the time and no energy management needed. Bennett is just too valuable as he could make many top tier team possible like national, rational, reverse melt, etc etc so having Xiao, Ganyu, Hu Tao or other DPS that doesn't rely on him is important on the second team.
Problem is you would need 3-4 5 star in a team which compete with Morgana when it come to primo cost but with the rerun coming faster thanks to the new banner system it isn't difficult to get what you want even as F2P with some saving.

I'm f2p farming for artifacts on and off for a while now and my xiao is about as good as that so id say this video is accurate, except I dont have zhongli but i still manage to do about ~50k in abyss with the right team and ~60k with food
I'm still trying to find the perfect balance of crit rate, dmg, atk%, anemo dmg and energy recharge (ER just for personal preference for running around in game cause I dont like using sucrose and jeans not much of a battery) but yea id say he's pretty good

I use Xiao on the abyss ever since I got him back on his release, playing with him is rather comfortable since he's not mechanically heavy, and having two geo characters on his team (I use Albedo and Zhongli) helps a lot
Xiao was my first main DPS back in February last year so when the current weapon banner came with as much of a guarantee of a polearm as you can ever expect I decided to throw everything into that one. Ended up getting the Jade-Winged though, so it was worth it.

Ppl talk about his artifact set and supports. But I think his bigger issue is that the corrosion effect which was introduced to combat shields greatly impacts Xiao the most. With his HP depletion during his burst (self corrosion), shields being less useful, and not being able to swap out of his burst you end up in situations where your HP could drop so incredibly fast you might have to end his burst early just so you don't die. And there aren't many options that will heal your whole team while Xiao is stuck on field in his burst. Hutao's mechanism is much better in this regard since it's not a constant ticking down. I think allowing him to gain energy while in his burst or allowing you to swap characters during burst would be a good improvement to his kit
Why does my lower peak xiao deal 40k raw plunge damage 👽
I was new to the game this January. I wanted Itto, but only had access to his banner for a couple days. The Xiao rerun became available and of all the few characters I knew anything about, he was the one I identified with... wish... wish... nothing. I didn't understand pity and just thought all wishes had same chance. So after wiffing on 6 10 pulls or so about 3 weeks into the game I tried 1 10 pull on Shenhe... got her! But now Xiao was inaccessible. I got my 5 star, pity reset and and needed to save primogems. Then I got Zongli, and Ganyu, etc. Once I understood pity I succeeded in 90% of my attempts.
And now I finally got my chance to get Xiao and i got him with only 70 pity.
I couldn't be more pleased.
But now I have to build him.

Currently the plan is Deathmatch, with half gladiator and half VV. Yes i know the new set is better for his burst, but only by 10%, it's weaker on his other skills,and getting a good full set will take months of farming. Even getting him to 90 with full talents is going to be a struggle.
I currently only have 1 core team of characters to 89, plus lvl 80 weapons, and talents to around 6 or so. Gear is pretty mixed still. I'd consider trying to get his Spear, except I also want to save to get Itto, my first 5 star failure to acquire.
Is the new set so much better such that its worth it? What should my first hard-core investment be, vv, full 999 talents? I'd think order of importance would be: 90, then weapon to 90, then starter gladiator gear to 20, then talents to 999, then hunt for better gear or better weapon.
Xiao main here, and i just found that 2 shimenawa and 2 gladiator actually works best on him
Yeah with vir,glad and shim its so close it just ends up depending on your supports/substats/goblet
I use VV over another atk% because my Bennet is cracked (luckily got Aquila Favonia, and crowned his burst), so I hit diminishing returns on Atk%.

I'm really happy that I got him in just one 10 pull. I'm AR45, he's lvl 80/80, with a lvl 80 blackcliff polearm, 2 piece vv and 2 piece glad with pretty decent stats with talents lvl 8,7,8 and he performs very well I have to say, he is one of my strongest dps alongside my f2p Shougun with The Catch R4 and I'm definitely love him, and I'm gonna pull Zhongli for him. He is great character even after a year of genahin's release, with fun gameplay and in my opinion great AOE DMG.
My only reason I got him is because I am a fan of dragoons (Final fantasy fans where you at?).

All the DPS have mutliple sets to use.
It just really depends on your set up.
2 set Glad and Shime are good if you have a low base atk Polearm.
If you have a 5* Polearm, use Anemo Dmg 2 piece instead.

Weve seen a lot of meta changes since emblem set made it feasible to build high er burst supports like xiangling and xq better than they were before. Similarly xiao needs a set to boost his plunges or anemo attacks and provide him with er since thats one of his major issues

Even free to play, it's just assumed you won't even try running Xiao without at least one 5* support.
Since you asked, I think _since his release_ Xiao has been the single most overrated character in the game. Lately I've seen other people singing the same tune, so maybe that's actually less true now than it was when he was released (I want to stress that Xiao didn't get worse, we just got past the few abyss cycles and events that were tailour made to be wrecked by Xiao and Hu Tao to make them feel stronger; Abyss floors rewarded Anemo users, which basically meant Venti or Xiao since even now the only other respectable Anemo DPS, as in DPS in the form of Anemo damage, is Kazuha, and events and abyssal moons were all "when your active character is below 50% health" for about two or three months to reward people who pulled (nOn-KeQiNg) banner 5*s during Lantern Rite). However, second in the running was Hu Tao imo, but while she's overrated as a DPS she's always been a solid support character, and the Shimenawa set made her both stronger and more practical to use overall (though like Xiao she has serious uptime issues- The single most-"needed" buff to Xiao would be a single character that heals and generates anemo energy while off-field with a ~15 second duration, despite people whining about how he has no artifact set tuned to him specifically).
For any element- or health-level-agnostic content (and keep in mind that to reverse community opinion on Kokomi recently-released large enemies can all be frozen and deal DOT but more importantly we're back to being rewarded for having HIGH health in events, not low), Xiao REQUIRES 5* supports to function even adequately, whereas several all-4* or one-5* carry and rotation-style teams (especially variations on the national team) are still able to effortlessly stomp abyss and still dominate abyss usage stats. To function as well as just a c4 Xiangling with a c0 Chongyun as support assuming both have Bennett, Xiao requires, and has always required, both C4 Albedo and C4 Jean. That's three 5*s, two of which are limited, and two of which (not the same two, granted) are high-constellation.
The core problems with Xiao are numerous. Most characters, especially 5*s, have one flaw that either keeps them from being overpowered or encourages you to build around offsetting that flaw. Xiao is nothing but flaws, though. Plunging attacks are inherently the least practical form of attack in the game because of the godawful auto-adjusting camera with a slow y axis and the fact that they're the only regular attacks that cannot be canceled by a dodge, while Xiao's jump and plunge from start to finish is longer than the time it takes many enemies to start their tell and hit you. He has constantly self-health-drain, which along with the previous point means that without a healer you aren't just one _mistake_ from death at all times, you're one _misfortune_ from death. As an anemo DPS, the sole anemo main DPS in the game in fact, Xiao has no access to shred outside of 5* supports (Zhongli, Venti and Jean) and the otherwise-awful Anemo MC (technically also a 5* support but that's not a hair I'm willing to devalue my intellectual honesty by splitting). Yet he also can't generate energy during his Q for some completely nonsense reason, so he requires an anemo battery (Jean, Sucrose, Kazuha or Sayu), which really sucks because every anemo battery besides pre-nerf Fischl is an on-field battery only, and Fischl is now permanently post-nerf (her turbo was removed, so she no longer generates enough electro particles to battery literally any character of any element like she used to). IMO it's actually a minor issue compared to the big deal that Xiao mains make about this one thing of all the things actually wrong with him, but I'll go ahead and add that yeah, he has no artifact set that synergises with him.
Meanwhile there is actually one other character who has almost the exact same gimmick as Xiao (being an extremely selfish DPS with a high-potential-uptime Q that buffs their damage to an extraordinary degree, not the plunging thing, though he can dragonstrike with the best of them): Razor. Razor is pretty much Xiao's polar opposite. He has no health drain, the support he NEEDS is minimal and thus highly flexible (essentially any off-field cryo applier that isn't Chongyu, all of which are good for him for more than just superconduct without requiring any 5* constellations, eg Rosaria (crit rate buff, universally useful), Diona (enables dragonstrikes as well), Shenhe (a good candidate who also buffs his physical damage), hell, even Qiqi (also makes him pretty much unkillable), and that's it), he not only generates his own energy but is arguably the best at it _in the entire game_ to offset the disadvantage of being punished for switching characters, and even when you do switch characters during his Q, to re-up buffs for example, he gets some energy refunded. The only bad thing about the character is you can't benefit from Chongyun's CD reduction on him, but he cancels the CD on his own E when he uses his Q anyway, so that's really only a punishment if you swap characters mid-Q a lot.
Kind of the nail in the coffin imo is how many near-buffs he has received lately. What I mean by that is that for example Severed Fate would make Xiao far more usable AND brutally strong, totally overcoming the need for C4 Jean and Albedo to perform over more typical supports like Bennett and Zhongli... If the 4pc actually affected his damage bonus like it does Raiden's. The Catch is exactly the same thing, finally a free to play weapon that would have synergised with Xiao. Yun Jin is the first real buff Xiao has received, and would almost make him work with Shimenawa and erase all his downsides (just as Shimenawa did for Hu Tao's terrible Q being a damage-ruiner), if all his Q did was let him spam plunges and infuse his weapon, but it also doubles his normal attack damage, so even if you run him with Yun Jin and White Tassel, his BIS artifact set is 4pc Gladiator's or Bolide (depending on whether he's relying on a shield), and the only problems she actually solves for him are his reliance on plunging attacks and his reliance on Albedo, by shifting his focus to normals.
Then we have my friend, who have Ganyu's signature bow, doesn't have any good weapon for Xiao but will pull for him instead of Ganyu anyway...
_But of course, the point on playing a game is having fun, so I have absolutely no problem with her choice_

F2P people do not get a lot of starglitters and we usually need them for either characters in the shop or more wishes because it is hard to get characters already. Saying "save starglitters" to a F2P means "just save for a few months then you can finally get an okay weapon for him"

The only reason Xiao didnt really shine is cause of Artifact. Genshin know how potentially broken Xiao can be, if they eventually release something that boost Wind+Lunge bonus damage like they did with Physical Attacker and Zhong Li artifact. Its pretty understandable not to tilt the balance anymore.

from a pure meta perspective I'd say this is rather an argument AGAINST pulling for Xiao. Abyss shows no sign of getting easier in the future, so if a peak F2P Xiao with Zhongli and Bennett(!!!) barely beats abyss 12.3 in 90sec, what hope does a freshly pulled Xiao today have? Sure you could argue "just pull X 5^ weapon" but IMO that's one of the worst advices you could give to F2P gamers. People are going to pull for Xiao and Zhongli now hoping to 100% every endgame content only to be disappointed a few months from now when they could be pulling Ganyu or other more future-proof chars who don't rely on Bennett, leaving the latter for non-5* meta teams like national.
Also, non-F2P Xiaos shouldnt even comment here, cause even a 10% difference in power could mean that you have to do another full rotation of 30sec, which you definitely can't afford in abyss.
Of course, if you really just like the character and want to dedicate all your resources to him, just pull. This is just from a meta/36* abyss perspective.

Xiao is better on second half so its stupid to run him on first. Also 106,5 er is barely usably on xiao it took him 25 seconds to get back into xiao burst at the end. More ER would have shaved down on a lot of time. You dont run 106% er on itto and take him to the first half. He needs more and you run him on the second half.
I'm new to xiao but i loved his autos x) and made a video AAing, raiden was pretty important (c0) but still got it done and it was very fun, hopefully we'll see more characters that can help xiao

Xiao has always been my favorite. I lucked up and got him on his first banner run. Death match on him with decent veridecent and gladiator set has my crit rate at 74% and crit dmg 144%. He averages 12-16k with his Q which considering how long it last is nothing to scoff at. My sucrose is also very well built since I ran the viridescent domain for Xiao so many times. Those two together dominates most content for me except spiral abyss but I don’t play enough to really grind it anyways. I typically run Diona or Bennet because Xiao desperately needs a healer. Barbara isn’t bad either. Toss in Fiscl who’s great off field due to Oz which really plays well to Xiao’s selfish gameplay. It’s a damn good team. I keep trying to switch it up and try other teams but I always go back to Xiao. For me he’s always been my strongest and most fun. I’m mostly F2P and don’t play often so I guess I find it a lot harder to build other characters compared to him. The Viridescent domain is so easy to run.

I’m completely f2p my xiao does around 60k plunges with team buffs he also has the catch and i know it doesn’t do anything but I like the er stat and it being high base attack
I use to have him like 1851 of atk, and 75/220 with blackcliff, now I got his polearm, the Jade Spear by accident in the weapon banner, and I got him like 2,608 of atk, and 83/187. My Xiao is a beast, I want to crown him, bt I'm broke and Zhongli it's almost there. ;;;

I feel so bad while choosing between Zhongli and Xiao. I wanted Xiao since his first banner and was preparing for his rerun with rolling homa for him. I do have a guarantee pity, but only for one character. But know seeing how much Zhonlgi is needed for him I feel myself rolling more towards him. My account does have some good dps and I dont have problems with that. I really would like to have zhongli also because I run Eula with the unfordge and always using her with diano isn't the best. Everything is getting even worse because now shields are getting nefred and or not so op as they used to be. Feeling myself go crazy 😤
Dude I have exact same dilemma. I have Hu Tao as my main dps, but wanted Xiao for the longest time. On other hand Zhongli will be useful everywhere. Have 11 days left to decide😔
I have been a Xiao main since he was released and my favorite comps to run with him are 2 DPSs (one being xiao), with two supports, one for each dps. For example: Xiao, jean, childe, fishle; Xiao, sucrose, bennet, yoimiya; xiao, jean, ayaka, xiangling. Even something like 2 anemo, 2 geo is fun. This is mainly because its kinda hard to find a bunch of supports to boost xiaos damage (basically just bennet) and for me, its pretty easy to avoid damage by jumping at the correct times & using some minor heals. I am able to take advantage of most main DPSs downtime this way and has even been a great way of finding hidden good team comps with my characters.
As a Xiao main myself for almost a year now I really recommend pulling for Xiao because his a beast in Spiral Abyss specially if there's so many enemies but the down side of him at first his so hard to play because he has one of the most unique play style in the game but overall his a really F2P friendly and can carry your whole team just add Benette with Xiao you will get his max potential

I used to run xiao with lithic spear ..he was doing 25k to 30k raw damage..now I got lucky with PJS he does 35k-40k raw damage ..artifact's are moderate..I hope he gets a artifact set for him ..
In the current event we have that potion where an active character active their burst, their normal, charged and plunge damage attack increased for 15s. And Xiao's ult last for 15. This might be just a hopium but it might be the case where Mihoyo testing this out for Xiao's tailored made artifacts set in the future.

And i am not say xiao it a bad character but am just talking from my gameplay experience so if any one disagree with me then is ok but if any one want to pull for xiao i highly recommend them to reconsider and try to save for zhongli or kazuha is more versatile and 1000% more fun to play than xiao

@@KienNguyen-lq1yo I can say you are right the trial isn't good to tell a character strength. I will say you are bad at identifying weaknesses. Here are some points.
- What Visap drains energy?
- One anemo battery fixes Xiao energy issue. Sucrose being the best option.
- Xiao's hp drain is not that bad even when corrosion is up. Nearly every healer in Genshin can make corrosion null and void. The only exceptions being Diona and Barbara.
- If someone is looking to pull Xiao then they are after a damage dealer. A shielder like Zhongli or a buffer like Kazuha is probably not on their radar.
- Who is more fun to play is subjective to you. I find Xiao and Kazuha equally fun. Kazuha however is a bit less dynamic since he mainly just does skill into ult.
A lot of your complaints sound like someone who barely played Xiao. I am not calling you out but pointing out where you're wrong. You can leave your Xiao on the bench though.
I got xiao the first day his banner dropped and with the blackliff pole I'm already hitting for around 19k I've been farming artifacts like crazy but I love his gameplay alot so it's easy to farm for him because it never gets boring thanks for the vid.

Putting aside the fun factor which is very subjective, what I don't get after reading lots of comments here is that, why do most players make it look like the lack of dedicated artifact, dedicated support etc. are the only reasons why his peak f2p potential seem somehow lacking a bit? I mean there were other older dps characters that also didn't have a dedicated artifact set and dedicated support until just recently but no one complained about it.
Imo on his first release, I already thought that his overall gameplay design,element,kits etc. never really screamed future proof, so a slight fall off was to be expected specially after a year or so.
