Greetings again from Scotland.I’ve watched NR play this countless times and copied him on the Bm7 where he uses the ring finger to bar , the index finger slips down for the D . Then the ring finger slides up in a legato style to the 11th on the D string. So essentially you never lose contact with the D string. Although I’ve seen him playing it countless different ways , it’s very smooth and efficient. God I really miss Bernards playing ❤️💖. Another great little tutorial man 😍

The very same Mr Rodgers seems to use live a simplified version. But I really think that your approach is amazingly rich and funky as it can be. @@pr4vus.studiosOn your PRS, use both pickups, and pull up on the tone to go single coil. It will give you that number 4 position sound of a Strat. Sounds great playing along with this tutorial. I found this tutorial years ago, and this song popped in my head late last night. I didn't bookmark it until today. I'm enjoying refreshing my memory on this song. And I'm using my PRS.

I wonder if you're hip to Johnnie Taylor, particularly the 'Eargasm' side from 1976? There's a cut on there called "Somebody's Gettin' It' that I sure would like some help figuring out. Stay well!
@@EricBlackmonGuitar That's what I was alluding to. If you had tabs or chord progressions, I wanted to pay for it. That's OK, I might can figure it out for myself, but it helps to see it played once. Nevertheless, I bet you'd dig that song. I notice Sweetwater is one of your sponsors. I have 17 guitars hanging on my walls on string swings and Mike Morgan at Sweetwater sold me at least 13 of them and 4 amps. I wouldn't trade anywhere else.
For those that are still learning, a valuable lesson Mr. Blackmon shows at 3:42 in this video; learn to use the thickness of a pick to help augment your guitar tone. When I was inexperienced, but playing in bands 2-3 times a week, I ONLY used an Extra Heavy. My life would have been much easier knowing when to use a thin pick and when to use a heavy. It wasn't until I got in recording in studios I found that my playing style could improve just using a different pick thickness. This is a great point he's making at 3:42.

Very! Put the pickup selector between the bridge and middle pickups and use a thin pick. Try to use a Fender amp if possible. Strats and Strat copies just don't sound the same in other amps! I find it hard to play the E string with my thumb. I know its supposed to be easier but l end up using a bar chord instead. This applies to many songs and even after decades l still don't have it. I can't get my thumb that far across the fretboard and play the chords properly. What's wrong with me? I can do pull offs, arpeggio, pentatonic. But not this?? Help me Eric, help me!! 😆 LOL
I have had lots of students tell me that they could not do this. Then I would show them how, and they would say "oh so that's how you do that.". It's kind of hard to tell someone how to do it. You need to show them. I have shown little kids how to do it. I will make myself a note to do a tutorial on how to use the thumb to play bass notes and mute the low E string while playing chords.

Greetings again from Scotland.I’ve watched NR play this countless times and copied him on the Bm7 where he uses the ring finger to bar , the index finger slips down for the D . Then the ring finger slides up in a legato style to the 11th on the D string. So essentially you never lose contact with the D string. Although I’ve seen him playing it countless different ways , it’s very smooth and efficient. God I really miss Bernards playing ❤️💖. Another great little tutorial man 😍

@@EricBlackmonGuitar Just by working with your video, x.75 speed I must admit and repeating endlessly for each of my study sessions, Im starting to realize that your arrangement is trying to replicate the feel of two guitars at the same time..Am I right? The very same Mr Rodgers seems to use live a simplified version. But I really think that your approach is amazingly rich and funky as it can be. I´m trying to nail that ONE STRING hooking up and down because it´s something you can use to spice up any funky rythm. I´m not looking for any extra teaching in youtube. Your style, feel and way to present the rythm patterns really work for me. And the "funkyness" of you left-righ hands combo is unbeatable. Thanks again from Spain!!! I found this tutorial years ago, and this song popped in my head late last night. I didn't bookmark it until today. I'm enjoying refreshing my memory on this song. And I'm using my PRS.

@@EricBlackmonGuitar That's what I was alluding to. If you had tabs or chord progressions, I wanted to pay for it. That's OK, I might can figure it out for myself, but it helps to see it played once. Nevertheless, I bet you'd dig that song.
I notice Sweetwater is one of your sponsors. I have 17 guitars hanging on my walls on string swings and Mike Morgan at Sweetwater sold me at least 13 of them and 4 amps. I wouldn't trade anywhere else.
For those that are still learning, a valuable lesson Mr. Blackmon shows at 3:42 in this video; learn to use the thickness of a pick to help augment your guitar tone. When I was inexperienced, but playing in bands 2-3 times a week, I ONLY used an Extra Heavy. My life would have been much easier knowing when to use a thin pick and when to use a heavy. It wasn't until I got in recording in studios I found that my playing style could improve just using a different pick thickness. This is a great point he's making at 3:42.

Very! Put the pickup selector between the bridge and middle pickups and use a thin pick. Try to use a Fender amp if possible. Strats and Strat copies just don't sound the same in other amps! What is the strumming pattern with mutes?

EricBlackmonGuitar I have a sound pipe amp but when I connect it it doesn’t sound like that I have a starcaster strat edition
I find it hard to play the E string with my thumb. I know its supposed to be easier but l end up using a bar chord instead. This applies to many songs and even after decades l still don't have it. I can't get my thumb that far across the fretboard and play the chords properly. What's wrong with me? I can do pull offs, arpeggio, pentatonic. But not this?? Help me Eric, help me!! 😆 LOL
I have had lots of students tell me that they could not do this. Then I would show them how, and they would say "oh so that's how you do that.". It's kind of hard to tell someone how to do it. You need to show them. I have shown little kids how to do it. I will make myself a note to do a tutorial on how to use the thumb to play bass notes and mute the low E string while playing chords.
I play it with 2nd finger on E and muting A string, and the rest with 3rd finger. Top lesson as always. thank you.
