- Part 2 of our Scottish adventure. We wild camp at Ben Lawers and summit it the next day (1214m) the UK’s 7th highest peak. We run Faskally parkrun and I jump off a cliff into the Falls of Bruar. I trail run up two more Munro’s being Stob Coire an t-Sneachda (1176m) and Cairn Lochan (1215m). We walk to Ben Macdui summit (1309m) and wild camp on the way (separate video).

Just catching up on some of your older stuff and wanted to say thank you to both of you. You inspired me to get off my bum and got for a (very short) run. Just before the pandemic hit I was the fittest I’d ever been - doing triathlons (badly) and feeling on top of the world. I continued training through lockdown but managed to tear my meniscus. Nearly a year of rehab and I finally managed to get back to hiking and cycling and started to feel better. But I’ve never got back to where I was. I know I probably won’t now but I’m still out enjoying the outdoors and hiking, cycling and swimming. But I can be lazy sometimes and give up the idea of getting fit again. Watching you two scampering around made me realise I need to be out there and doing something every day. So I put my kit on and went out into the fields and forests in the pouring rain and it was lovely. So thank you. Keep being an inspiration.
Injury sucks but it makes you appreciate your body more when it works. Keep getting out and leaving ‘lazy’ behind. Sounds like you really enjoy it once you are out of the door👍👍👍

This bright back some amazing memories. I did my mountaineering course back in 1992. The army has its base at Ballachulish. Been Lawers was one of the munroes we climbed, at the time there was about 3ft of snow and complete whiteout on the mountain. Unfortunately in 1994 i lost my leg and suffered very serious injury to my remaining leg, so my coming days were over. But about two years ago me and one of my sons who is in the parachute regiment climbed Ingleborough, one of my favourite peaks. I was gutted to have got within 200m of the top, pushed it a far as i could but badly damaged my stump in the process, looked a bit like your finger you cut off. I'm loving your videos and it's great to see a fellow Yorkshire man inspiring people to get out and do it. Nowadays instead of climbing the hills i enjoy them from the seat of my Harley-Davidson, 👍
Mate you sound like a real inspiration! So many able bodied people say ‘I can’t’ or ‘I’m too old’ or ‘I’m not fit enough’. I love that you still will accept a challenge and still get out in whatever way you can and the harly is a quality and cool way. Keep going mate you have all respect from me👊
What an amazing place. Nicola is a ray of sunshine, her laugh cracks me up. The bluebells were harebells. They grow later in the year than the bluebells you see in woods.

Neither of us had climbed a mountain or wild camped previously, we absolutely loved it and it has been watching TH-cam videos of yours and several others that has not only inspired us but educated us enough to know how to tackle it ✌🏼

The waterfall was used by complete beginners to jump in on a gorge walking experience although they went from the lower ledge. It’s quite an amazing place. I always enjoy Scotland.

We definitely made the most of it having a variety of adventures. Scottish Blue was a reminder of how much I was missing him. We are currently on top of Green Gable!
Playing catch up with your videos Al and what a fantastic 2 parter. We stayed at Loch Lomond Holiday Park at the beginning of October. Unfortunately for us the weather was just too bad to go high. So we settled for some low land adventures. Visited a few of the places you were at. Next time I definitely going to wild came a night or Two, just need to convince the wife 😉😆.
You’ll love it mate but convincing the wife might take some special powers. It took me a bit to get Nicola convinced but even now she isn’t😂😂😂
Absolutely loved this 2 part little series. Those places just looked fantastic and you two are absolute machines no wonder you’re both in such great form!! So lovely to see you and Nicola together on some vids was so lovely to see you both together you form such a great team.
Well my tent and sleeping bag has arrived Al just waiting on my Osprey Rook pack. I think I’ve decided on the Klymit Static Insulated V for as my sleep mat as they seem great value. Have you had any first hand experience with this mat Al at all?

Getting sorted with kit then!😬 I don’t know that mat but I’m sure you’ve done your research. Most bits of kit are very individualised anyway. It may work brilliantly for you but not for someone else.

I’ve bought a lot of stuff that you have endorsed and they are great like the RAB micro lite alpine down jacket that was £178 and other stuff etc and I’m happy with what I’ve got you have to pay that little bit more to get quality but I don’t mind. Keep up the great work John from Sheffield England
Well John it might sting to buy sometimes but after that it’s worth spending the money on good quality kit. That jacket will last you years and if you tear it RAB have a mending shop. 👍

Whoever's doing your editing is bloody good at it. Superb cinematography too. You and Nicola are a great combo,such a gracious lady. It's so awesome to see such views of my ancestral home although I've never visited in person. Loved every minute of it...Except when I saw Nicola's vege meal.🤮. She's certainly a great sport. If you park at that dam at the beginning of this video you can cycle 5 miles down hill all the way into glen Lyon the longest loneliest and loveliest glen and come out at Kenmore total about 15 miles or so, for next time😉

Yes Scotland is pretty epic. I’ll always keep fit so I can enjoy it all fully too. The next video is out camp out which you’ll see the true beauty of that area with the drone.
I get it about being older and becoming more careful. I'm 58 now, having learned in the school of Hard Knocks. In 2015 I was free soloing an ice climb called "Stone Man" and fell a hundred feet, landing in 3 feet of snow at the base, unconcious, face down. My life was saved by the 6 climbers waiting at the base, who I landed amongst, who flipped me over, so I could breathe.
Wow mate! Lucky. These experiences are always positive if you can walk away with air in your lungs. Wow.

Road closures could add to the fun in my 4x4 although there is a fun/danger balance 😂.

Last time I was there before COVID I got into a white out . Never seen it with no snow as I usually go in feb

Really enjoy your videos and I have two questions: 1) does Nicola ever stop smiling? and 2) you spoke of having children; I don’t know how old they are but do you ever take them into the mountains to start to experience the wonder of the mountains?
Nicola is always smiling 😊. Teenagers aren’t interested anymore😂. When younger I took them out a lot now I have to drag them.
Very good, I was missing blue but his stunt double calmed me down. MCM outdoors just said he lost 14 lbs, and then he only drank two beers, worrying.
Yeah Nicola definitely fills the gap of Blue😊😊😊. I’ll be out with MCM again soon so a few beers will be a definite!

I had the vegetable hotpot and it reminded me of school instant mash with tinned veg thrown in. I had to eat it after walking 15 miles! Don't bother with the fruit and veg curry either! 🤢
😂 I loved school dinners! Some aren’t great but they are good for the job they are made for I guess.

@@NicolaRuns it was the first time I tried them. Only used them as I was a 3 day hike and thought it would be easier. I'll try some others soon. I'm actually vegan so not a huge choice!
@@NicolaRuns yeah I'm on the hunt for lightweight, tastier foods to take out with me!! I'm interested in trying the fire box vegan range, very expensive though if your in a budget. Been vegan 8 years, I love it!

Honest question.. why don't they plant trees? Here in the other side of the pond, we cut trees and plant more..
No trees grow up there. Cells only generate above about 8 degrees Celsius so the growing season is short. Also deer and sheep eat all the saplings.

😂😂😂 issues… where do I start! I know they are notorious money pits and mine to be fair is old. I’m not a big money earner at all and I had a year where it cost me about 5k and that was using my local mechanic who charges hardly anything. Thing is when I get a new vehicle I’m getting a newer version of this one because i love it. It suits my life perfectly. 7 seats, makes a double bed in the back, tows my trailer, roof tent, comfy, 4x4, dog, 👌. But… I also want a T5 to convert myself 😂😂😂
