Have seen a part of this interview where they included the part that this coach had also knocked on the Bird family door before he came back and Larry's mom had told him that she just wished all the coaches would just let them in peace and shut the door on him. Glad he went back. Wow, I can't really imagine you being shy. My husband has always been just as shy as Larry Bird was. He hates being in front of people, even my family. So know what it is like.
Yeah Winning Time is the name of the show. It was really good especially the first season. Second season was a bit unbalanced, still good though, but I guess it's because they knew they had to end it and had to cram more stuff in.
@@BU_TV not 100% bu HBO ( or Max or whatever its called nowdays) definetely was having budget issues, the whole House of the Dragon fiasco and other shows getting canned too, this show was probably expensive and not a smash hit so it got the axe too.
I think Bird's irritation with that guy's comment was because Bird respected people who did an honest day's work. He got along great with the "support" staff in whatever context he found himself in. I've read that he bought an extra ring after one of their championships for the guy that rebounded for him in his warm-up sessions when he came in early to the Garden. There's also a story of the team going out to eat together and compiling the tip afterward. Bird said that all the waiter did was carry the food to the table. Bird went back to the kitchen to tip the cook.
The stories that you speak of are golden and warm. Where did you find out about this.? Was this from one of his books or just from being around during the time?
Its fascinating to think that Bird was essentially bullied out of Indiana University. I dont know if Bobby Knight ever talked about that. Isiah has said he wished it had worked out. I think that would have been Bird's senior year though. Still, Isiah and Bird together in college? It's interesting
Bird said it wasn't really anything that drove him out except finances. And I've heard that Bobby Knight has said, had he known, he'd have gotten larry a scholorship.
Yea, There Is A Longer Interview Of This, But The Guy Cut Out Parts, Why I Don't Know? Yes This Coach Was Down There A Lot Bugging Bird. But There Were Other Coach's Trying To Get Him Too. Except This Coach Was There A Lot More. Even His Mother & Other Family Members Were Getting Tried Of It. I Think In One Story His Mother Got Rude To This Coach & She Never Was Before. But I Think She Was More Mad At Larry Turning Down Offers More Then She Was Mad At This Coach. He Caught Him At His Grandma's House & Larry Was Working On His Pick Up Truck. And His Grandmaw Came Out & Told Larry To Invite Him In For Some Ice Tea. And Larry "No That's Ok Grandmaw. Then She Said It With A Different Pitch In Her Voice, And Larry Said Ok Grandmaw. ha ha ha. Larry Was Very Close To His Grandma. But Your Right If This Coach Didn't Bug Larry So Much, I Do Agree We Would Have Never Heard Of Larry Bird.
Appreciate the love yall! 💯💯
Good shit boss! Keep it coming

Being in the right spot at the right time.
Someone has a knack for that
I wonder how many potential Larry Bird's are walking around that decided not to take the opportunity to pursue their dream.
I think about that alot. Lots of unseen potential

Yep, there was definitely a time like that for me so I understand. Thanks for sharing.
@@BU_TV Your welcome.
LARRY LEGEND IS A UNICORN AND THE TRUE GOAT!!! 🐐 ☘️
Right on cue!!!🎉
Larry was asked would he still be picking up trash if he didn't play basketball? He said, well hopefully I'll be a supervisor by now. 😅😅

Great video love larry birl
Everybody better love Bird too!
@@BU_TV The white fans needed, a white star. Larry was that man.
@harveyhc7438 That’s not what made him the all-around complete basketball player that he was.
Bird was AMAZING and SO much fun to watch for EVERYONE.

@@BU_TV Wasn't it, at least partially, because of the writers' strike.

@@BU_TV yeah Isiah Thomas said something to the effect of "Had Bobby Knight talked to you, we would have been on the same team." (He was on IU too.)
