More so, and I've quoted this before in relation to Dabi, "the child not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth". All he wanted was for his father to he proud of him. And since he couldn't and was later replaced, he decided if Enjiro wouldn't be proud of him, he'd ruin him.

Dabi is ultimately even more tragic than Shigaraki/Nana. He is the embodiment of "The sins of the father" and "let the world burn." What makes it so sad is if their mother had happened upon Touya as he saw his father even in shock of her dead son standing before her in confusion, a mother NEVER forgets and would have embraced h8m and Dabi while never being a hero would have seen his father break down in grief and joy and Dabi would never of come to be. This is the ultimate broken family that if Enji had processed his grief Touya would be there among his family.
Dabi is my favourite villain/character, but in no way is he more tragic than Shigaraki... The latter's life has been hell.

Touya is watching Endeavor training Shoto. A pan drops turning heads to Rei, "Touya?" she gasps?! Tears begin to well in her eye's. "Is it really you? We thought you dead?!" "Hi mom." Touya responds. The voices cause Enji to turn and exclaim "Who are you? How did you get in here?!" Angrily. "To which Rei is running TO Touya and embracing her thought to be dead son, balling her eyes out! Enji seeing the scorched young asult in his wife's arms gasp's "Touya?! Is that you?! It cant be your dead!" To which after a minute embracing his mother he says, "mom please stop. Dad and I need to talk." To which Rei is confused but seeing a hardened resolve in her sons eye's, backs up. As Touya enters the training dojo he flashes to memories, Shoto not knowing its Touya, asks who he is. "I know i look different baby brother and my voice is different but its really me Touya." Shoto looks at his father with unbridled rage, "YOU SAID HE WAS DEAD?! YOU LIED TO US AGAIN, HOW CAN YOU CALL YOURSELF A HERO?!!!!" To seeing Touya Enji asks him to prove his quirk, to which a small demonstration of his og flame and it then turning to blue as his memories turn dark. "I see you learned nothing from my "death" father. You train him even harsher then you trained me in here!" Then he see's them, Enji is in tears. "Your home my son, back from the dead. I am so proud of you." At this, Endeavor hugs his long lost son and he reluctantly hugs him back, the family is called, the shpck is immense, the joy of their eldest retirning immense and Endeavor while still tough on his kids spends more time with them and Rei becomes a mother bear, never letting anyone bully or pick on him. Yet sadly his time comes several months before MHA starts, again he is laid to rest, his family for a short time once again whole. A shrine with a new face, that of the scarred Touya and prayer sticks from his whole family.
Thos is what I see if Rei had seen her dead son standing their seeing Enji train Shoto, a son thought gone reunited with his family.
@@SergioLeonardoCornejo He decided to do evil in the last case to leave a mark of his existence that his family and even his father, his former idol and the person he loved the most, would notice his presence.... He saw that even after his "death" his father could not change, and worse became even more terrible in Shoto's training, feeding idea that Toya was of no use to his parents... His existence was not recognized by the responsible members of his family... as both not ability to dialogue with the child and seek any kind of specialized help, hoping that Toya, a child, would solve his problems alone. His father and mother assume (in the next chapters) that they did not see the suffering that Toya went through, not physical suffering, but mental suffering for so many years until his collapse... Imagine a child who from five to 13 years old literally doubting his own existence in that world, not having anyone to talk about his problem, because Enji only had the obsessive desire to overcome "all might" and walked away from the child believing that this would be the best thing to do for Toya not to be burned, the passive mother Rei as she always was , waited 8 years to try to confront Toya, even though noticed he was going to train hidden in the mountains...
The decisions of his extremely contradictory relatives to try to persuade him of the idea he was given since his birth, seeing his parents having other children until the birth of the "perfect child" shoto and the expressions on their faces of relief and satisfaction, the distance abruptness of his father's presence and passiveness of his mother only fueled DABI's creation...
@@brianjohnson5272 The problem is exactly that. Touya had a choice. He was actually stable enough to live by the time he tried to return, but decided not to. Eventually he became a monster, out of his own choice. He decided not to return, just as Shigaraki decided to disintegrate his dog and sister first, and in his internal monolog he says he wanted to, even though they did nothing wrong.
They choose the path of evil. The reason Midoriya is a bullied child and Bakugo is a bully is to show them not giving in to resentment or antisocial inclinations, and instead becoming good men.
Legends say that touya got hospitalised once for backache from carrying the manga.

after watching this video I realized that theres a very important element of Dabi which we have forgotten which might be able to answer why he was able to survive Shotos super powerful combo move, and its that his body has a super high resistance to ice, and that might explain why Shotos attack wasn't as effective against him as it was against somebody else
That is true. It doesn't explain why he was able to survive his own flames, but it does explain why he survived Shoto's combo attack.

Toya is really a tragic character
he was born with the sole purpose of getting stronger until he will surpass all might but he wanted to
he wanted to make his father's dream come true and do whatever he could
all he got back was getting replaced and abandoned
Agreed and it's really frustrating to see how many people simply stamp him off as a child that was born an evil psychopath and that no one else had influenced him at all when that couldn't be farther from the truth.
The story of Toya Todoroki/Dabi is really brutal and tragic. Enji did love his family in the beginning but his obsession with trying to be the #1 pro hero caused him to treat his children and his wife the worst way a man and a husband should treat his family. Dabi embodies the “sins of the father” and “let the past die”. Toya’s obsession to be strongest and to surpass his father’s legacy caused him to snap and become the most distributing villain I have seen in the world of MHA. The legacy surrounding the Todoroki family is sad and really messed up. If you think about it Shoto could’ve turned like Toya/Dabi if he didn’t have help from Deku and his classmates. Toya and Tomura are both similar. They both come from a family of hero’s but the society they live in and the family they live in caused them to become villains with the saddest backstories in the world of MHA.
A clear example that Quirks do NOT benefit everyone, and how society treats quirks in general along with those who have them and DON'T have them.
Shoto had friends but he is still strong willed unlike dabi who is a brat who didn't get his way and turned evil. Yes I get it the abuse but shoto was becoming a hero without using his dad's quirk. HE WOULD NEVER BE LIKE DABI that's one thing you got wrong. Dabi is very weak minded that's why he broke and became a psycho murderer. Watching shoto through the beginning you could tell he could never be like dabi because he is much stronger mentally then dabi
@@zachlee3388 I hate starting an argument, but is it really considered "being a brat" when all Toya wanted was his father's approval? To be acknowledged as Endeavor's son? No matter what he has to do to get that attention?
Yes, he has done bad things when he was still Toya, but that was all to just be acknowledged by Endeavor, for him to say that he was proud of Toya, that's all he ever wanted. Yet he never got it, and it made him despise Endeavor AND Shoto for getting all the attention.
Also, while Shoto does not deserve the hate Dabi gives him, Shoto could have been like Dabi, you forget that while Toya was only neglected, Shoto was straight-up ABUSED by Endeavor in their "training" sessions, and it was shown that Endeavor NEVER let Shoto interact with anyone, not even his own siblings. The way I see it, UA was the first actual bit of freedom Shoto EVER had from Endeavor. If he NEVER got that freedom, he could very well harbor the same hatred for Endeavor that Dabi does, but Midoriya and Class 1-A helped him through that crisis.

Dabi is an unintentional commentary on eugenics and on also why some people shouldn’t become parents. Also on how not to parent a child with a biological ailment/ disability. Since dabi has what amounts to a quirk based autoimmune disorder where the things his own body creates actively attacks him. Then you go on to replace the kid and make it ovious both why and that they are being replaced you are almost be guaranteed to cause mental instability. The fact that they went through the ignoring the existence of the kid method during some of the most important developmental stages of the kids life yea a blind man could see that the kid is not going to be mentally stable. Dabi is very similar to deku just without any support system or real positive influences. Look how far deku has been willing to go to use the quirk he was given hell they seem to parallel each other more than shigaraki and deku do. Also I think Dabis body is dead but dabi is actually just fire manipulating a corps slowly burning away what’s literally holding him back.

Dabi is basically the product of his family's sins, in particular his parents sins. Endeavor was wrong to abandon and neglect Toya and to replace him. However Rei was also wrong to hate and blame on her own son Toya just because he is Endeavor's son. Even if she was abused she knew the mental agony Toya was going through. Both parents ultimately abandoned and neglected Toya. Because they didnt raise him well Toya as an adult ended up as a villain and mass murderer.
Seeing the recent chapters it looks like Endeavour and Rei finally came back to their senses. Both of them deeply regret and hold a huge sense of guilt for their past actions to Toya and now want to make up in any way they can. If those two, who made huge mistakes as parents can redeem themselves then surely Dabi can redeem himself as well since Dabi is basically the product of his parents shit parenting. Besides I don't think Dabi is dead coz of the ice that is generating from his body.
Nomu Dabi and Nomu Shigaraki with a powerful destructive Quirk. I have a feeling the Manga won't end happy, unless Goku comes by, or the legendary Deku's dad appears.
I'm not a big fan of MHA, but I absolutely love the Dabi and Todoroki family drama subplot. I really think this is the best part of the series to me.
He could have become a rescue hero who specialized in mountain rescues in the winter, particularly during snowstorms.

Nah the person that relates to him is Joker haha. Let’s not forget how Dabi’s hatred also extends towards hero society since he thinks all heroes are scumbags. He even went out of his way on trying to kill Hawks and humiliating him in his broadcast along with Endeavor. And he ain’t even a Todoroki family member which means that he has even less to do with the family drama than Shoto does. Although he hates Endeavor, I’d say his hatred is geared more towards hero society in general. Endeavor being the cause to make him start seeing it that way of course.

Dabi is now acting like he's known nothing but pain, anger, and hatred throughout his entire life. And with a huge batch of insanity to boot. No, insanity is an understatement. He is officially deranged!
Dabi is fascinating because I don’t know about you but when I try to change something I usually try to replace it with something else and that is dabi’s whole deal. His passion couldn’t be smothered by the fire but it was molded into something else. I think that the only way for Dabi to die is if he accepts it. People keep stating that dabi should be dead but his will to live and passion for his purpose keep him stuck. I think that endeavor might be killed by AFO and that will crush Dabi because he can no longer exist without endeavor. Either he needs endeavor for praise or for hatred but either way he cannot exist without his father so if AFO kills endeavor then dabi loses his will to live.
Dabi on the other hand wasn't abused like Tomura. Enji tried his best to stop him because Touya was hurting himself with his flames but he didn't. There were so many options, so many possibilities but he was too stubborn. He even tried to murder his little bro Shoto when he was an infant. He became jealous of his bro because he got everything: perfect body, perfect quirk, his father's attention. Touya was always whining to Natsu. He even roasted his mom and etc. He had a choice. He didn't have to be a mass murdering super villain.
People don't understand that no one fully explained this to toya at all.
Yes, they tried to protect him, but in his mind, he was just being tossed aside. He was a child. He needed someone to sit down with him and seriously explain that he's not just being thrown away, but it's for his own good.
And on top of that, Endeavour was a neglectful father anyways, so what do you expect touya to think
He was raised his whole life for a certain purpose and was "replaced" by his own sibling, then neglected. He was a child. Neglection can destroy a person believe it or not, and even more so as a child.
He's very obviously mentally unstable, and I feel like people just expect him to have common sense now that he's older. Things that affect you that much as a child don't leave. We've only been told everything about toya, we don't know how badly it affected him apart from what we see on the surface. Its absolutely no excuse for the terrible things he's done, I agree that you can't justify him because of his backstory, but if he really was just jealous, he wouldn'tve become a villain.

I've been a Dabi fan ever since he first appeared on screen so the fact that he was a todoroki didn't come at a surprise but how he revealed it was absolutely insane for me....I might be the crazy one here but just this once I actually hope Dabi kills endeavour...this would actually be good for shoto's character arc too if enji dies shoto could find he's own "endeavour" and take his father's name to be the hero he wants to be that doesn't involve his father

Wait boiling water on his hot side. That shouldn't have burned him correct. His flame/heat resistant should have been greater than that
Rei actually used her quirk on him reflexively and covered that part of Shoto's face with ice to cool off the burn, which actually caused an ice burn, and hence Shoto gets his scar.

imagine being a child and your father never showing love but treating you like a tool, seeing your father abuse your mother to keep producing offsprings and distancing you from your siblings because he sees you as a tool instead of a child, you guys seem to forget that childhood is the most important phase for the development of a human, in that stage is where we understand and rationalize life and if the only thing he saw during his childhood was that... then you cant ask him to be anything different.

I never really liked Dabi/Touya. I mostly liked Shigaraki because he is a great character. He had every right to be the villain. His grandma Nana left her son who grew up into the complete a**hole. He abused Tenko just because he wanted to be a hero. Even making him apologise for that, for his dream. When he learned about his grandma this dude went nuts and broke him which led to his quirk awakening. When he tried to ask his father for help he beated him and then got what he deserved. His family didn't help him while his dad abused him, they didn't stop him. And then he asked other people for help but they didn't even bother saying the heroes or at least police will help but none of that happened. Only AFO helped him. Heroes always sacrifice their families for the people they don't even know. That's why Tenko became Tomura Shigaraki

Honestly watching this just makes me think of all the other potential AU outcomes that could've taken place. I would love to read AU manga made by the creator after the completion of the series. Imagine if endeavor trained Toya how to mitigate damage. Like if dabi used his power like mustang pushing heat away from himself, or piercing shots focusing all his power into a shot but reducing the aoe to mitigate self damage. Or if AfO approached endevor to fix Toya's body and Endevor was the traitor because of it. Or if Endevor stopped at Toya. Or if Toya went to his mother after he woke up and she went and kicked endevor out and divorced him. There just so many things that could've gone differently in this family's story that could be so interesting.

Dabi's True revelation was so Greater in the Manga than the Anime. At first I was hyped but tge Atmoshpere of the Manga is not same in the anime.
As in you can feel the words the Sadisfaction of Dabi as he reveal to Endeveor his true Identity, but in the Anime yes it was shocking (Mindset is a Anime watcher only) but the Atmosphere of How Dabi felt and Enji Todoroki's Expressions are, is just not the same. You feel me guys.

Ice resistance comes from having an ice quirk... his mother wasnt born with an ice body.... his mother developed an ice body because of the quirk. How did touyas flame quirk give him an ice quirk side effect? Terrible
