Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön und echt melancholisch. Der ebenso geniale Dirigent leitet das perfekt trainierte Orchester in verschiedenen Tempi und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Klasse!
@@dimitrineff5794 Kannst du mir erklaeren weshalb du diese Frage stellst. Es ist doch immer eine eindeutige Ehrerbietung fuer den jeweiligen Komponisten/Interpreten ... respektvoll 'zugeschnitten' ... und damit jedesmal anders.
Benoit is in fact a much underrated composer. First I thought because he wrote mostly vocal works on terribly silly Flemish texts. But then, most librettos used by other composers like even Mozart, Bach ...are just as silly. So why this neglect ? If this piece would be presented as by Dvorak or Smetana it would be praised !
@@Clivejvaughan I have the score of De Schelde. What immediately struck me was the great rhytmic variation that B uses. More so than his more famous collegues. We see it in this piece also, f.i. the coda of the introduction. I know of no other likewise syncopation in 19th century music.

In Belgium culture is in hands of the politically correct left and they hate everything that reeks of nationalism. So Benoit and most other Flemish composers get no chance in the media. In Holland people are proud of Pijper and Wagenaar, here we are supposed to be ashamed for Benoit.

Certainly underrated - love his oratorio 'De Schelde', & 'The Pacification of Ghent'...& this is beautifully constructed !
