    This was a quality of life fix. Did mine last year!

      Definitely! I've been meaning to do it for years but never got around to it. Definitely been hit in the head more than once with it. I'm going to need to do the hood ones sometime, too.

    Oh man, I've been hot enough times with the trunk already 😂. Thanks for the video, straight forward and seems simple enough.

    When I replaced the struts on my Subaru Legacy wagon about 10 years ago I had the rear hatch resting on my head for a few minutes while I replaced both struts. It's great when you have new struts replacing the old worn out ones!

      Nice! Yeah, definitely one of those things you don't think about how annoying it would be to live without until they stop working.
      Modern rear hatch supports are getting so big! Especially the ones with electronic open/close hatches.

    Strange trunk configuration, but seems easy enough!

      Yeah, the fuel tank being there was a change made for an improved safety rating, from what I've read.
      It's weird that my older and cheaper GM vehicle, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, has a better trunk support/pivot mechanism (that sits on the sides of the trunk opening so no part swings into the trunk space).

    Nice vid. didn't know the gas tanks were in the trunk on those. odd

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They were originally elsewhere, but they got moved to there at some point. Not sure if it's a US thing or a 2005+ thing; I haven't been able to find out for sure which one.
      Definitely cut way down on trunk space, though!

      @@CarsSimplified It is a US requirement to have the gas tank there

      Nice! I hope it goes smoothly. Does your Monaro have the petrol tank in the boot as well?

      @@CarsSimplified Ah, well, we got two versions of the Monaro CV8 here in the UK. The earlier V2 Series III, sometimes called VY (that’s the Holden designation) and the revised VZ, and we also got the HSV versions of both models.The earlier version had the tank under the car, and the later version was aligned with US safety regs and it was put in the trunk. I’ve owned both, but currently in an earlier CV8, July 04 build. Extremely rare now, only about 300 left here, but a great community of owners 😊👍

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, 300! That's quite rare! I bet that's a tight-knit community. How hard is it to get Monaro-specific parts over there?

    • @v88dicky32
      @v88dicky32 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarsSimplified Surprisingly easy actually. I use a fantastic place only 20 miles away that specialise in American or American-powered vehicles, and they’re capable of pretty much anything really. They made up some beautiful stainless headers and sports cats for me recently, as well as fitting new lower control arms and a diff rebuild. So the mechanical side is covered! The only problem could be sourcing body panels, but we have a couple of Monaro breakers in the UK, although I guess they’ll run out one day. Anything else I can source from Australia or the US 😊

    Even with new trunk lift supports the trunk is kinda heavy because of that heavy spoiler. I’m going to order a lighter lip spoiler some day.

    • @theultimatecult
      @theultimatecult 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spoiler is 5 lbs. Its not too heavy

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would really like a nicer rear wing or spoiler one day, but the carbon fiber lips are your best bet weight-wise. They all hang out far from the pivot point, though, which gives any weight a lot of leverage.

    • @Mickcotton
      @Mickcotton ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theultimatecult the rear trunk hood is very heavy just took me 10 minutes to replace both Struts I’m so Happy. Cheers 🥂

      @@Mickcotton He said the spoiler was making it heavy, not the trunk. The spoiler weighs a chihuahua. Its make of fiberglass and its hollow. I also replaced my trunk struts recently. Goodday
