I love the melodies...he's a really great artist....he was right out of the flower-child revolution of the 60's....I saw him in Las Vegas a couple of years ago...loved the songs....glad they liked him in Sweeden also...what beautiful songs... Michael
Great song, originally by Bobby Freeman. But have you heard The Beach Boys version? Slightly ahead of Johnny Rivers - and they killed it with Brian Wilson's arrangement: th-cam.com/video/Lih-X7YgC_Y/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for your compliments. Spring here in North Carolina is definitely the most beautiful season, what with all of the dogwoods, azaleas and daffodils blooming. I've basically assembled flowers I remember from my childhood in Wisconsin, including the white peonies that you see in the main music video avatar photo. I also have lilacs. One day I hope to travel Europe in the spring! Kevin
I'm setting here watch a documentary on Vietnam on PBS , I'm 60 years old grew up in the 60s as a child and I have to say I had no idea what a bull shit war thAt we where in, this wasn't a war like WW2 or the conflict with radical Islam where we were attack first this was a political war that we shouldn't been in, it was run by general's who new nothing about the north Vietnam , God bless our men and women who fought and a lot lost their lives in this conflict, we owe a lot for president Nixon realize we couldn't win this war and got us out of it I encourage everyone who did not serve in Vietnam or have family and friends in Vietnam to look at the series on PBS my heart go out for the Warriors who fought it ubjust war and your families of the loss once god bless these Warriors then and now that fought that keeps this country that we had the freedom we have, God bless the finest men and women in the our military God bless USA God bless NOAH Ryan and Papa Joe
Many folks don't realize that Marlene Dietrich was the first person to perform this song on stage. The current clips of her doing it aren't the best. Several years ago there was a B&W news clip here of her doing it during the war, while standing on a flatbed military truck, in front of a large crowd of GI's . She was young, & beautiful. Her singing is more like reciting poetry. That clip will make the hair stand up, on your neck. Rivers is the only one that can crank it up, and it's excellent
The lyrics of this beauty was entirely borrowed from Cossack folk-song "Koloda-Duda", referenced in the Mikhail Sholokhov novel "And Quiet Flows the Don" (1934), which Seeger had read in-flight. So the song text originated from exact region torn by current Ukraine-Russia War...
Beautiful song! Best version! ❤️
Only Johnny Rivers could turn a folk song into a tune that rocks. Great to dance to! Shows my age, but I was 16 in the mid 60's. We had music then!
Sad time...Vietnam War, but what a beautiful version of this song...love the background singers!

I was also 16 when this song came out. We haven't seemed to have changed very much since then . Look at that poor girl who was just killed in Iran.
Especially love hearing the hauntingly beautiful voices of the female backup singers.
Yes, I definitely agree with you. He gives it a nice uplifting tempo/beat, making it into a true anthem.
Great Johnny Rivers!!!
Only Johnny Rivers could have turned this song into an uptempo rock 'n roll number that you could dance to.
Thanks for your comments. I've heard other versions of this song and this too is my favorite version.
"Think about this song"...A Great song!...Johnny does it Great!...A Great band!!!...Peace!
What a very beautiful song to listen to !
Great song...Johnny does the song well.
Have been a Johnny River fan ever since 1969 when riding with my brother i heard the song,"Do you want to dance." Been hooked ever since.

From a vietnam vet johnny you sing it well this bad boy is bitter sweet rip to all the soldiers who gave all peace .but when will we ever learn?
I'm with you brother. He sing it with a sting in his voice. He wants the listener to feel our pain. Hard.
Best piece of Rivers ever.1967

My all-time favorite version of this song, and I say that as a #1 Kingston Trio fan!

Jane,
Thank you so much for your nice comments. I finally "created" my own video with flowers from my own garden! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Kevin

Adoro as canções dele...voz linda
love this remake of kingston trio song i think !
The first time I heard this song, I believe, it was from The Dave Clark Five [ a rock version as well]. Rivers does an excellent job.
Interpretação única, voz inconfundível , Johnny Rivers meu ídolo , tenho tudo que se diz respeito a ele
Yep! They don't make 'em like that anymore!
Thanks, Jane, for thinking of my video and the last day of summer! :)
Kevin
Thought I would pop back in and see this one again today;) Really pretty Kevin! It is the last day of summer..fall is on the way;0)! LOL:)
For those wondering, the other musicians are bass guitarist Chuck Day and drummer Mickey Jones.

Thanks so much for your compliment! It's my first foray into (music) YT video making, with pics I took myself and a song version I really like.

This person probably prefers Pete Seeger or The Kingston Trio versions... ;-)
