    Just for the people thinking of buying a PSVITA this year, it has a tremendous Modding Homebrew scene, they've ported several GTA games, bully, Cuphead, Mario kart, Mario 64, Zelda, Max Payne, Celeste and several other games... yes these are native ports not emulation, and there's more coming in the future such as Dead Cells, Hades ETC.

    At the time of vita's release and going through like, 2015 or so, Sony actually did really encourage developers to put games on both PS4 and Vita and I think offered some assistance to do so to smaller developers - it's why the Vita became a great place for indie ports.

    • @TheLastLineLive
      @TheLastLineLive 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah, I think after Freedom Wars, Sony pulled out of developing their own games, but wanted it to be a bridge/extension device to the PS4 for stuff like indies as well as remote play.

    The hardware quality (for the time), the Vita library, the compatibility with the PSP library, the ability to play PSOne Classics on it, and the synergies with the Playstation TV and PS3 to essentially facilitate a "Switch-like" experience for a lot of games before the Switch was even a thing, will forever make the Vita one of the best consoles of all time, and no one will ever be able to tell me otherwise.

    Long live the Vita!!! Long live the Vita!!! Tearaway is vastly underrated. I also picked the deluxe version of Shantae at GameStop from the shelf a couple years ago! It was like less than $20. I’m a Sony guy but I don’t know if I can forgive them for how they crapped on the Vita and let it die, it’s incredibly sad. So many games were planned, even a Bioshock game. It cold have sold like crazy if Sony really pushed it, and not just marketed it as a way to do remote play.

    Muramasa Rebirth alone is reason to own a Vita. It's such a colorful game that looks amazing on the old model's OLED screen. Really can't wait to jump into some of the Japanese VNs on the system too. Holding off just a bit longer since I'm currently playing Dragon Quest games in Japanese to work on my reading, but I hope to be reading a bunch of VN on it by the end of this year.

    • @belto3149
      @belto3149 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should probably start by something easier to read tbh. Dragon quest uses lots of fancy or uncommon words and the text can sometimes be formulated in a strange way.

    Recording Vita gameplay footage is such a pain! I typically like to use the PlayStation TV (which is really just a Vita with HDMI output), but so many popular games don't support it, which is incredibly annoying. Just a QOL heads-up for visual novels: It is fairly common now to have an auto-progression feature - just set it to auto-proceed, and you only have to press that one button sequence and nothing more until you want to stop. This is at the very least true for Utawarerumono (and every other game from Aquaplus that I'm aware of), Doki Doki Literature Club and Root Letter.

    I have a real love/hate relationship with the Vita. My OLED Vita is still going strong and I’ve enjoyed it a lot..
    2 or 3 years after launch my joy started to wane. Too many games had performance issues and the output from Sony was starting to dry up. Why should I invest my time and money into it when Sony have turned their backs on it? It was a strange decision that still baffles me today, and I worked for the company in Japan for nearly 5 years.
    More recently, with the popularity of the Switch, I’ve been able to sell off many of my Vita games and get the better looking and performing Switch versions and have still have quite a bit of money left over.
    The Vita will always have a special place in my heart but these days I’m playing most Vita games on other platforms.

    Vita is hands down my favorite system. I bought mine when Tales of Hearts R was announced for localization back in 2014, since the Tales series has always been a system seller for me. I've managed to get over 120 games in my collection (therefore making it my single largest system library in my entire collection). I once even had a goal to get every NTSC physical game, but that was something I had to give up when the prices jumped back in 2020. Something I really love about the system now is the homebrew community surrounding it. There's plenty of games that didn't release in English that modders are translating into English. Several games that released in Japan on PS4 and Vita only got PS4 releases in English, but people are able to take the English script from PS4 and apply it to the Vita version, with games like Attack on Titan 2 and Catherine Full Body being perfect examples of this.

    Even though PS VITA is failed and underrated but there's still good points from this system:
    - Although some PS VITA games have increased in price, there are also some great games that can still be purchased at low prices, for example NFS Most Wanted, Uncharted Golden Abbys, Killzone Mercenary, and Unit 13.
    - The owner and community of this system are very friendly, you can see the community activities at r/vita on Reddit.
    - This console build like a tank lol
    - Hacking and the homebrew community keep this console alive and well because Vita means life.

    One of my favorite systems and I'd love to collect more for it, but every shop around here only ever has the same 4-5 games. And they're always $50+. I've gotten most of my collection from Amazon, ebay etc. but it's just so expensive now. The dream would be to visit Japan for multiple reasons, and seeing the love for Vita over there is definitely one of them.

    It saddens me so much, back when I was younger I had so many games but in order to get newer games, I had to trade in at GameStop. It hurts my soul every time I think of what could of been lol I also used to have a Vita & I am now on the hunt for another and to build my physical collection amongst all systems. Loved Gravity Rush though! Great Vid as always MJR!

    I didn't have a Vita back when it was still around. I only got one like, a year and a half ago. But, the Vita's become my favorite handheld. Between the great Vita games, and being able to play every PSP/PS1 game, AND all the unofficial homebrew ports, homebrew apps, and plugins..... the Vita's so much fun to use and mess with.

    So conflicted about this console! I bought a huge amount of physical copies for the console when it was in its prime and left them sealed until I could play them…Which of course means many are still sealed. Now it makes little sense to open and play then with their values having gone WAY up. Thanks for the great video!

    I own three Vita's (one of them is the OG OLED right before it got discontinued) and one PS TV...... having said that, whenever I look for a good game to buy for my Vita, I always look and see if the same game is available for the Switch. It's just so much easier to swap between handheld mode and TV. Plus the screen on the Switch is bigger.

    I have 80 physical games myself and just over 1/3rd are still sealed. I remember getting many of them dirt cheap at GameStop and local video game stores for next to nothing along with the clearance section at Target. I was shocked at how the values jumped even on opened and CIB games. I also have the launch 3G OLED model, the blue 2000 and the PSTV. It's a great system.

    Got me beat, i was collecting digital vita games during its run so i had only 12 physical releases, while having over 900 digital. I've since caught up a bit, having purchased my 50th physical Vita game. As a collector I'm not interested in the modding community, personally nothing beats having a physical copy in a case with artwork, to me it adds tremendous value to the game. I've since turned away from digital games entirely and am a advid PS3 collector. I am going for a full NTSC Set and currently have 908 cib PS3 Games. Getting close to my end goal of all 1171 of them. Happy Gaming, cheers!!

    I'm not a collector by any means. I just fell in love with my Vita when I played Persona 4. Downloaded that for €10, - and couldn't stop playing it!
    Now I have around 30 physical games for it. Peanuts compared to actual collectors, but more than I thought I would ever own.
    I also happen to have one Limited Run game that I bought second hand, nr 100 :)
    I haven't played all my phydicals yet, but I really liked Aegis of Earth and the Sly Cooper collection.
    Too bad that Vita online is getting torn down piece by piece by Sony. I would love to play Soul Sacrifice online, for example.
    The most expensive games I own are probably Axiom Verge Multiverse Edition, which retails for €70,- and Dragon's Crown, which goes for around €100,-

    I love the rhythm games for the Vita. My top favorites are the Project Diva and Taiko series. I enjoy playing those games on console devices as well but I thoroughly enjoy playing rhythm games on handheld systems such as the Vita, 3DS, and Nintendo Switch. Plus the amount of jrpgs for the Vita is just fantastic. I think my hubby and I have a little over thirty games for the Vita. A good chunk we haven't even dipped into yet but hopefully we will be able to play more this year.

    i have over 200 PSVita Games, 20% of my collection are Japanese RPGs or beat em up games that never came out in america and the community made patches from the digital releases, games like Zenki Zero, Berserk, or trails in the sky series of games. It is a monster console, and despite some games suffer from frame drops, if you have a ....cough (modded).... console the overclocking helps a bunch in games like Jak and Daxter and Borderlands, for example. You have a great collection dude. Really happy to see some games i am missing
