    Thank you for sharing how you do it! I think when I first got mine, understanding all the loading was a bit more than my brain would absorb at first but now that I've been doing mine (a smaller machine than yours) I at least am understanding everything you are doing.

      Glad it helped! Yes, it’s information overload at first. You just have to do it enough that it becomes muscle memory 😊

    Loved this video. I have been a longarm quilter for years. I usually put my seamed backing fabric vertically so I don’t have to measure the center. I never thought of the bulk it would create when rolled up. U can always learn something new no matter how experienced u think u are. Can’t wait for the next video. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you.

    Thank you Tammie for sharing this video. Whilst seasoned quilters may find this boring, us quilting newbies find this incredibly fascinating! Nothing beats viewing the inner mechanics and the importance of prep work that is required for the finishings of a quilt. Truly a labour of love finishing those creative works of heart & art! 💜😊✂️🎨☕️Cheers, Jo

    Most folks dont think about all of the time and work it takes just to get the 3 layers onto the frame. I hope they realize this has to be included in the price of longarm quilting. Great video.❤

    Oh gosh. You are so calm! I get super anxious when loading I guess because I can never get my backing even on sides & bottom & any sag puts me into orbit! ? When you loaded it like that were the selvages on the sides? & non selvage sides under the snappers?
    Anyway, thank you so much for the calm & informative video.

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My preference is always to load the selvages under the snappers because I know they are straight. But not every backing is oriented that way. As my husband says “You just need seat time.” That comes from driving a tractor. The more you do it the better you get at it. It’s the same thing with loading the quilt. The more you do it, the better you get at it. You can email me with any other questions you may have. 😊

    Tammie, good info. I'm self-taught quilter. I don't know anyone who quilts.
    Two months ago I finished a big quilt and decided to look for a long arm quilter.
    Located one gave her my quilt telling her I only wanted simple quilting.
    She ruined my quilt. One section is completely distorted and the stitching
    is coming undone.
    It was obvious the quilt wasn't centered properly on the machine.
    There's tucks and pleats and some of the thread looks as if it's shredding
    I'm meeting her next week but I can't see how she is going to put this right.
    I don't live in the USA. In my country crafts aren't popular.

      @@tammieearnest Thanks Tammie! When I see how your quilting enhances
      the quilts you do I'm so disappointed that it's the opposite with my quilt.
      I'm now blaming myself. I should have returned it when I saw it.
      Expensive lesson learnt.

    • @beckypetersen2680
      @beckypetersen2680 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow. That is so sad. If you are in Ireland, someone should be able to help you as quilting is somewhat popular at least in the UK - so at least not too far from you.

  • @pampeterson3092
    @pampeterson3092 ปีที่แล้ว

    I send my quilt tops out to be quilted. Thank you for showing me what it takes to load a quilt on the long arm machine.
    So one quick question regarding the backing seam-- you would then prefer the seam to be horizontal to the length of the quilt? I just want to be as helpful to my LAQ as I can.

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s easier to load a quilt with the seam horizontal. But I understand that it can’t always be done. I’d ask your longarm quilter if they have a preference.

    Fun to watch how things work. Love the quilt. What size are these blocks? Or do you know tte pattern name? I could make one using my stash.
    Always interesting videos. ❤❤❤

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Becky! I have already returned the quilt to the client, so I can't measure the blocks. I have asked her for the name of the pattern, and I will get that to you once she responds. My guess is that one square with the 1/4 of a circle in it was about 4 inches.

      They are called Red Snappers. MK Quilts has them.

    I just have a question. What is the size of you sewn casing. My leaders are from handi quilter and have a casing but it is quite large. The red snappers float around. Thanks.

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the standard casing is too large. I stitched a line using a bright colored thread 1” from the folded edge side of the leader. I wish I had gone a tad bit tighter from that as they still move a little too much.

    I have some quilts tucking on the back, what would be causing this?

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not keeping the back fabric tight enough. Always check the backing fabric after you rotate the quilt. If there is any sagging, then smooth out the fabric.

    Thanks for sharing! I have an older hq sweet sixteen with the older style table … the new tables are sooo much nicer! I’m wondering where you order your pre-wound bobbins?

    • @tammieearnest

      I have a wholesale account with Hab+Dash. If you own a business, you can open an account too. If you are quilting your own projects, I would Google "Magna-glide" and see who sells them retail.

    I’m having terrible time with tension on my HQ…

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you tried checking the tension if your bobbin? Purchase a TOWA gauge and check your bobbins.
      Also, turn your needle so that the eye is facing “5:30”. HQ doesn’t suggest this, but I think it works.
