On my wishlist! Excited to grow them in Houston Texas, as I see a lot of agave doing well in landscaping. Love that "bad hair day".

I love the video, but I recommend cutting off the netting on plugs. Every plant I ever planted with that netting died. It restricts roots on every kind of plant. That includes the mangave as well as annuals.

Very good point, thank you! And even if the netting is too intertwined in roots to remove, cutting it and leaving it is better than nothing.

Thanks for the video. Bright light does bring out the color better. Note: be careful handling them; the leaves can be brittle and tips can break off.

What variety of the mangave was in your hands, it was more purple than usual, so wondering? 😊
I have bought a few from your website but have always seen plugs not other options.

That potted one is Mangave 'Red Wing': mountaincrestgardens.com/mangave-red-wing-plug/
Unfortunately we're down to just the plugs at the moment, but they really do grow so fast once you pop them in soil!

    Lot's of great info, thanx.
One question. What kind of lifespan can you expect from mangave?

It really depends on the variety, but they produce offsets that replace any that bloom out, so you can have a self-propagating colony for many years.

Does each variety grow larger at a different rate? If they are planted in pots and outside for the warmer months, the plant would need to only get to a size that air could carry in for the winter months. Would they then do well under Gro lights along with my other tender perennials that come in? If they are out for 7 months a year, would they still need Gro lights indoors (if there is no VERY sunny window that doesn’t have cats taking the best light)?

Yes and they reach different sizes at maturity (we list them in the Product Details for each Mangave in our online catalog). And yes, you could absolutely grow them in containers and bring them indoors when there's a chance of below freezing temps. I have some that spend winter under grow lights just fine. I've also heard some gardeners send them into full dormancy by keeping them in the garage (cold, but above freezing) where they get almost no light and no water at all.
Best to you and your cats!

    Agavreda is a better name.
They didn't invite me to that meeting. Probably because at the last one I tried to get them to change misemps to Rocky Buttpooper.
