What are Mangaves AND when should you divide them

Mangaves, one of my favorite plants. The hardiness of an agave with the coloring of a manfreda. I have a couple mangaves and a manfreda who have made a bunch of pups. It is time to divide up these plants and make more plants!!

I'm obsessed with these guys! I have about a dozen different varieties, but my favorites are the 'Bad Hair Day', 'Night Owl', and 'Moonglow'. 'Moonglow' looks like it could be from another planet entirely.
I don't know what I'm going to do if my 'Aztec King' really gets a four foot spread on it!

Wow! Sounds like you have some really neat mangaves! Have you had any of them bloom?

I had an almost immediate bloom on Cherry Chocolate Chip bought from a nursery. It was not very striking and I removed it to continue enjoying the colors in the rosette. I saw no setback of the plant and was so, so glad that mangave are not monocarpic! @@Sarahleanned

The interesting part is knowing what type of mangave it is,also what type of agave parent was it hybridized with ex....

I agree. Unfortunately the nursery’s usually don’t tell you what the combo is. I think I have mangave bloodspot, but I’m not 100% sure.
