I was a bit sick while recording some of the lines for this video, so forgive ow sexy I sound at times. Anyways, Mortal Kombat is also a bit sick, with a bad case of terminal reboot brain. Try figuring out how you go forward in a universe with multiple dimension, timelines and multiverses. Marvel hasn't even ben able to figure that puzzle out.

Imagine rebooting the universe two times in three games, and the first game after the reboot you go straight back into time travel and multiverse bullshit again.
Yeah I’m not even gonna lie I thought the whole point of calling it Mortal Kombat 1 is that they would reset everything and start completely anew. I actually like some of the changes they made, but relying on time travel and multiverses again seemed like it was tacked on for the sake of gravitas.
This pissed me off so bad there are no words to describe it

the new writers gutted Dark Raiden, and now, the future of the story being any good, all because they have such a hard on for ending the story with Avenger End Game battle bullshit
You also decide to go through the plot of the original timeline in basically one game. You have the MK tournament, Sub-Zero turning evil (except not becoming Noob), the Deadly Alliance, the appearance of Damashi, and Armageddon.
Devs: “what did everyone hate about the previous games?”
“The time plot”
“Ok let’s bring that back in full force”
Not only did they bring that back but then they fucked around and put a supermassive case of multiverse theory into the mix with a dash of the "everything is canon" trope as now all MK11 endings are canon and everyone that was ever in MK up until MK1 has a titan variant. It makes things even more convoluted as it now included several DC characters into that mess (Thank you, MK vs DC).

I mean they'd already committed to it with the end of MK11 they had to finish it. Now hopefully we can move forward & set some stuff in stone as a new timeline. idk ig we'll see.

It was SUPPOSED to be, but even with all his power Liu Kang could not fix the timeline & people still turned to their evil ways & Shang Tsung from the past timeline ruined the fresh start. (tho some things are still fixed see : Sindel) MK11 Finished with Liu Kang beginning this timeline & this is what happened in it. What would YOU have preferred? Like everyone is complaining, but how would YOU have written the story? Also what lies?

Two things:
1. The Shirai Ryu is named that in Scorpion’s tower ending. He names his new clan after he and Smoke flee to Japan to hide from the Lin Kuei, and names it after a childhood friend, who it’s implied that he marries.
2. Hanzo is mentioned in the game, just in Smoke’s tower ending. Basically, Hanzo is an orphan who tries to mug Smoke to get money for food. When Smoke learns of Hanzo’s backstory and how it’s similar to his own, Smoke decides to make Hanzo the first initiate of the Shirai Ryu

My biggest problem isn't that they changed too much, it's that they didn't change enough. Ultimately, with the exception of a few characters, nothing's really different.
Yeah pretty much the characters that are supposed to be good are good and the ones that are supposed to be evil are evil so what’s changed? If they wanted change they should have made Shao khan an actual good guy l😂

@@QuangNguyen-dz5hl sindels character was already butchered in the timeline before the reset I mean in MK 9 they stated she sacrificed herself to put a protective barrier around earth realm to keep it from shao khan and when she was resurrected she had to be put under quan chis control yet mk 11 reveals she was always Evil? It dosent make any sense why would she put up a barrier to protect earth realm from shao khan then?

"Like who gives a damn about Havik", he's actually one of the most popular characters from the 3D era (like seriously top 3). People were begging for him to come back for years.
All too true. That was probably the only thing that got me hyped about this game. Well him & Reptile since they ruined Nitara
In gameplay this version of Havik is probably the best MK character of all time. But in the story, he's basically nothing. There's no reason to be hype about this version of Havik being a main villain.
Especially if this game's "variant" system is anything to go by, he'll just be regular Havik but with fire powers or something.
@@slvrcobra1337 I can grant that. NRS really needs to do literally something about jobbers. It's one of the worst aspects of these games. Just because you replace Mileena, Reptile, and Baraka with Nitara, Rain and Havik does not make the situation better and it makes what could be interesting characters with good motivations just a dude to beat up.
I like Midway Havik but don’t care for MK1 Havik since he’s just fucking Dairou doing a Havik cosplay
Totally fair but counter-point, being popular in unpopular games still leaves you a bit niche. Also even as someone that enjoyed those games, the most popular of the cast had a lot to do with most of those characters sucking ass.

I think Dart is the only person keeping track of Mortal Kombat lore. Watching his live streams of this game were pretty crazy. He was all "So and so's not a member of the Whatever Clan!" without skipping a beat so you know he wasn't looking it up on the fly. I mean, good for him for having the head space for Mortal Kombat lore.
Haven’t seen the video yet but hopefully that means this vid will have actually valid sins and not just him half assing it as usual

There's a few MK TH-camrs like 4th snake that do it, but he's a little too critical for a lot of fans to tolerate.

In fairness to Liu Kang, the game does establish that he cursed Shang and Quan Chi to lead empty lives… but added a caveat that they could escape this destiny by coming to open up to and care about others. They were just so purely evil from birth that the escape clause never kicked in, I suppose.
Also, that “Alien” reference with Johnny was SO close to being really funny, but they dragged it on too long and spelled it out too much. If they’d ended it with his friends going “What!?” And then him giving an annoyed sigh at no one else getting it, it would have landed.
Alternatively; it would've been funnier if Shang Tsung decided to just punch Johnny while he was awkwardly trying to explain himself.

I really want to ask what the point of cuffing Scorpion is. He can teleport. And it's not like those chains interrupt magic or something, he can still use his hellfire on it.
Why the hell does the ninjas need to sneak around when they can teleport. Hell, Smoke can go invisible too.
Also, during that Scorpion vs Sub Zero cutscene, did Scorpion forget that he also has a knife? Did Sub Zero forget he can create bigger weapons than a knife? Did EVERYONE forget that Smoke was there too? Wtf was he doing, just watching?
I wasn't bothered by that as much as the fact that both Scorpion AND Sub-Zero get defeated in that cutscene by *a few random goons with no special powers*

Well Subzero had the chance for a killing blow, my guess is he simply did not want to kill his brother (at least at that moment) since he was still trying to get him to his side

Why did OG!Shang Tsung disguise himself as Kronika other than to trick the audience? What, did he think posing as the main villain of the last game who isn't supposed to exist would be less likely to draw Liu Kang's attention than posing as just some random guy?

Tarkatt becoming a disease was unplanned by Liu Kang, he wanted to give Tarkatans a normal life but certain things just have to happen sorta like "canon" in the spider verse, Liu Kang didn't want it to be disease

What can I say… from storyline we have in this game, it seems that Liu Kang would be a bad screenwriter popular in Hollywood.
Especially the pandering and blatant focus more on representation and equity over quality and storytelling. Every single Outworld villain is a male jobber, and every single Outworld hero (except Syzoth and Baraka) is a flawless girlboss. Liu Kang really DID learn his script writing from modern Hollywood.
And everyone talks about how all the new characters are unusually hot, which sounds pretty Hollywood if you ask me.
Honestly, I would like to see a Mortal Kombat game where Shang Tsung and Quan Chi began at the bottom rung and were society's punching bag, but it made them humble and had them become heroes as a way of showing that people can improve and change in their lifetimes, kind like a karmic change similar to the serial killer that the Buddha made one of his most devoted disciples. That would be interesting and at least it would be unique and different from the multiverse crap.
Or even if they still wanted Shang Tsung to be a "villain", when I saw the first trailer I thought the idea was that on the surface, everything looked peaceful but Shang knew Liu Kang was playing God and nobody was truly free to live their lives.
Shang is the only one aware that Liu Kang keeps rebooting the timeline, and each time Shang Tsung rebels against him. The main storyline would be about how Liu Kang has almost created the perfect timeline, but Shang Tsung is influencing character arcs beyond Liu Kang's control. Tsung tells others about the timeline, which leads some of the typical "hero" characters to side with Shang Tsung because they don't want Liu Kang controlling them.
They could've really done an interesting twist where Shang is right to be angry and becomes the hero to Liu Kang's villain, where he has unknowingly driven himself insane in pursuit of peace and perfection.

Thank you for being the first person to mention that about mercury. That drove me nuts that they acted like it was deadly. You can play with mercury and be fine. It's not as deadly as people seem to think. The problem is when you are around it chronically, and especially when you are in a room without good ventilation, breathing in its vapors. You can drink it and not die because your gut doesn't absorb much elemental mercury. Now if it was organic mercury, which is clear and looks like water, even a pin prick drop of that touching your skin for a second will kill you in one of the most painful ways possible. It will take a while, but you are doomed. Trace amounts of organic mercury (carbon-bonded mercury molecule), is what is in food like tuna, and eating tons of tuna can cause mercury poisoning because of that.

@@CsubAzUrmedve It's such an incredibly small amount in one can of tuna. You have to eat a not-so-normal amount of tuna to be affected. Basically, people who live on the coast and survive on seafood for all their protein are the ones really at risk.

Would just like to clarify that Mileena wasn't retconned in MK1 to be gay. In MKX, she was confirmed to be bisexual based on the story and multiple pre-fight interactions with Tanya

I can't tell if the dialogue was intentionally written to be campy, but 90% of it sounded like it was just characters explaining their backstories or how things worked. That's not a definite problem, but the issue is that it lacks charm. Especially when everyone talks about other "timelines."
Some def was meant to be campy. It is a MK game after all. It's story has never been the best. Fighting games aren't exactly known for deep storylines / perfect writing. It's a reason there are so many memes based around the story over the years.
Obviously spiderman 2, that games sins will truly be a marvel to behold.
He will need literal hours to sin that my friend... and I can't wait!

Best moment for me was easily Liu and Kitana reunion and Baraka chapter. But you hit the nail on the head on Liu and Raiden switching places. That's why raiden to me was one of the weaker characters. Also the multiverse angle did kind of.break the story so you hit a lot of good points.
Finally, someone giving this story the justice it DOESN'T DESERVE!

Your biggest misconception is thinking Liu Kang hand crafted everyone's story you keep saying "why did Liu Kang do this" the only thing Liu changed personally was stripping Shang Tsung and Quan Chi of their magic because they would be the ones to challenge him and mess with the time for their advantage. After chronica Liu vowed not to get involved in anyone's lives, so he didn't choose scorpion to be Kuai Liang, or Cassie not to be born..."in my new era all beings will have the opportunity to find peace, whether or not they do will be their responsibility"
The video barely started and he gave all the explanation about the story one needs to know. The writers clearly have their heads up their asses.
This was beautiful. Folks can like what they wanna like but this story was so off. All the praise it gets, I'm just looking around thinkin "Do y'all not like good storytelling?"
I liked this games story too but Dartigan has a point in doing the multiverse timeline fight again when they just started the reboot. That could have been like a 5th game for the reboot. What are they going to do now???
@@demetriusprime1505 I liked seeing Mileena in the spotlight after that, not much love for what they did with anyone. Even her character got a downgrade. The story was nice in the fact, another game came out.

Ya know honestly this entire thing happened because of Liu Kangs sheer spite against Shang Tsung lol. This possibly could have been avoided if he just simply gave him an island or something to rule over. Instead he let his hate for him overpower his logic.
I'm sorry but that's some bull. All Liu Kang did was make it so that Shang Tsung wouldn't ever become a threat but could still have a life, hence Shang being born a peasant in Outworld. Liu Kang could've done a lot more than that to him, if he really wanted to spite him. And that's if he didn't just make it so Shang Tsung never existed at all in the New Era. But his hope was that such a life would reform Shang and Liu Kang never went out of his way to punish him or heap abuse on him. It was still Shang Tsung's life to live and his bio states he's "too lazy for hard labor and too shifty for honest work". Hence, Shang chose to be still be bad, Liu Kang's plan just made it so he would never become an enemy. I mean, look at what Shang did the moment he got any power. His lab alone is a horror movie.

I think it's important to note that Liu Kang did not preordain everything in this universe. He kept severe threats in check and leaned everything more towards peace, but held no sway over where everyone else was headed. He never intended Mileena to take Kitana's place as empress, he merely gave Mileena a fair shot at living a peaceful life at Kitana's side. He never orchestrated the Tarkat disease as a new interpretation for Tarkatans; in fact having Tarkatans at all was never his plan; it seems like he wanted Baraka to have a more successful life as a well-accomplished Edenian merchant. Liu Kang has stated in multiple character interactions that he can't control everything and even if he could, he wants people to choose their own path in life (besides the more dangerous ones).
23:15 honestly it's hard to pin down because the timelines are so fucked up. But in several games the Tarkatan race hasn't been exactly kind to other races, that and all the eating and slaughtering people.
Also just as a personal note IDK why but tarkatans in this game look like diet Volatiles from dying light.
all they have to do is just remaster the old ps2 and n64 games. don't add anything new, just update the models and textures.
I am around 17 minutes into the video, how is Sindel the Queen of Outworld? In the original timeline, she was Queen of Edenia which was forcibly merged into Outworld after they lost to Shao Kahn, her husband Jerrod also died against Shao Kahn in combat.

In the Og mk Timeline Liu Kang Freed Edenia from Shao Kahns control after winning Mk4 and it became a Seperate Realm( Fg Liu Kang is from the nrs Timeline who never went through mk4 Events).
Kitana has been 10k years old for all of NRS timeline as far as I know? Maybe you should do some research & catch up with the current game if you want answers. I'd type em out but ain't nobody got time for that.

I gotta say after watching this, he absolutely made some valid criticisms of the games, the problem with that though is, its nothing the fans hadnt already discussed. The best criticisms were things the majority already agreed on. The vast majority of his complaints are:
Arrgghhhh the female characters are useful and have complexity
Arghhhh theyre making men weaker and toxic and empowering women i hate girlbosses graghhh (this guy really has a hate boner for the women characters)
Rags on multiple plot points and a countless myriad of major and minor details alike completely confused as to why its the case, when if he had been paying attention to the story, he wouldnt be making the complaint.
Making objective ass criticisms of creative decisions if it that could be any less valid, you dont like creative decisions they made so what, every title they wanna push the envelope and try to create a new and original product that engages the players, sometimes you succeed, sometimes you fail, thats the risk they take with every game.
You complain about shit constantly like liu kang knowing should have known kenshi would go blind, and it proves you werent listening at all to the story, only listening to respond and ready to complain. Liu kang is NOT omnipotent, he states this directly, he cant recreate EVERYTHING in his image exactly as he wants. He chose not to give himself too much power, he didnt want it, and gave it up as soon as it he could. Liu kang could only influence the trajectory of peoples lives and where they might start. Again i have to emphasize if you just listened when they spoke almost half of these complaints wouldnt exist.
I would like to emphasize i dont particularly love this story, the creative decisions and the lack of thought out plot points and shit, but i do appreciate the hard work they put into this for us.

There are a lot of problems with the MK1 narrative,
But somehow, some way, you picked the worst things to criticize on top of that.
I know people say sin videos are just for fun and shouldn’t be taken seriously, and to be fair, when it comes to your videos lately, I agree.
But sins (in this context) are criticisms, jokes too, but criticisms more so than not. And a lot of these “sins” are unfounded, or given with the most bad faith interpretations of writing I have ever seen.
What’s worst is you actually are one of the few TH-camrs out there that actually can make good sins videos cus you have a great voice for it.
But I wish you’d put more effort in actually pointing out things that are legit wrong with a narrative rather than go cutscene by cutscene, say somethings wrong, then move on without giving even the most basic critical thought.
But hey, you get the views and get paid so you know it is what it is

148. Obviously there are also soldiers in front of the carriage. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. That's something we’re supposed to learn as babies.
152. Lui Kang, Raiden, Sindel, Mileena, Syzoth, Baraka, Tanya, and Smoke. All quite different from the old timeline.
154. Outworld started a war with Earthrealm, obviously people have already died. No main characters, but they're not the only people that exist.
156. The amulet is an evil object. Liu Kang wouldn't want to use it, or he might be corrupted.

163. Shang Tsung is established to just be that petty. And he recruited non-Titan Shang because he needed him to turn the realms against each other and assemble the Dragon Army, while Titan Shang was busy preparing his own timeline for war.
164. Better to use souls from the timeline you're invading rather than use your own people that can fight for you.

Ermac was basically his own person in the Midway Timeline that voided away from Shao Kahn's side & decided to fight for the side of Good which he helped Liu Kang (soul) turn his revenant friends back to normal since Onaga made them into revenants.

Except Necromancy and magical resurrection were already in canon as ways to bring fighters back ad infinitum if needed or they could just take a page from SNK's book and have explicitly non canom dream matches for characters that don't fit in the story but noooo we have to further destroy stakes in the narrative by adding le multiverse and infinite timelines completely unneccessary and entirely the fault of trend chasing and incompetence.

I'm not even that astute of a story analyst and I lost count of how many times I was able to point out a plot hole. It's really strange how they decided to make Liu Kang recreate the timeline, but then make so many obviously bad and short-sighted decisions that anyone, let alone a deity with eternal life, would be able to anticipate. His treatment of Shang Tsung was honestly vile if you ask me, as he punished the man for machinations from a timeline that was erased, IE, no longer his fault. Different person now. Still he makes him society's punching bag.

after playing Mortal Kombat 1's story mode, technically there's alot of dumb moments etc involving the characters. Like Madam Rai Chu survivng a fall from the upper deck even though the whole fight was a staged test. She was still an old lady and dont care how "tough" she is, a fall like that could really have hurt her badly lol
