  • Al Murray and James Holland discussed my new book about the PIAT on a livestream for their great podcast 'We Have Ways', please do check them out at / wehavewayspod .
    Massive thanks to Al and James for their enthusiasm about the book (and the PIAT!) and for their kind words about it! Al gives a good short rundown of some of the areas I cover in the book. [You can watch the entire livestream here - www.crowdcast....]
    The book explores the design, development and operational history of the PIAT. If you'd like a copy, check out - www.historical...

    The skirts weren't for hollow charged weapons, they were to stop Soviet AT rifle rounds.

      As an added benefit they did help prevent excessive damage from shaped charges.

      @@SlavicCelery Yeah, but that's not what they were designed for.

      @@muwuny I'm not denying that at all. The unique feature of the skirts is they genuinely were effective, vs most of the homebrewed ideas tanker crews had. Such as putting timbers on the side of the tank. Those often made shaped charges more effective due to stand off distance.

    Come on guys. The MP -40 was designed by Heinrich Vollmer and produced by the Erma Werke. Schmeisser design the MP-18 sub machine. A different design (excellent but costly to make) that preceded the MP-38 and PM-40. Even Wikipedia knows that.

      You should drop them a line on twitter, this is a just an extract from the show where they discussed the book.

    I was one time visiting the New Jersey state trooper museum and the had a display of some of the weapons they confiscated and one of them was a PIAT. I just remember asking myself how the hell does a PIAT end up in rural New Jersey

      There's tales of surplus ones being found in the wrong hands!

      @@TheArmourersBench no kidding. But do you have any idea how that happened?

      @TheArmourersBench  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Strawberry-12. probably purchased surplus, a lot of stuff was post war, and was likely confiscated in a raid. There's a photo in a 50s newspaper I remember seeing.
