All that Ole needed was a defensive midfielder because his attack was very quick, lethal and dangerous that could destroy any team. They looked so comfortable and did it for fun when at their best.

I loved Ole ball. He came in when the team was a mess under Mourinho playing depressingly negative football. Morale was low. Rashford was considering leaving. Ole recognised that the ace up our sleeve was that we had an abundance of talented young and fast players (Greenwood, Rashford, Martial, etc.), and our best bet would be to find a way to release them.
Originally Pogba played the quarter back role, and we did really well for about eight games until he started pushing for a move elsewhere and essentially downed tools. At that point the team's performance dipped and everyone just said the team benefitted from "the new manager bounce". But it was a clear strategy. Then we bought Bruno Fernandes and he was the perfect man for the job.
Solskjaer had two of the most exciting young coaches in McKenna and Carrick happily working under him and we played exciting counter attacking football. The media were relentlessly on his back despite coming second and third and being a penalty away from winning the Uefa cup against a team who parked the bus (so at this point we were clearly dominating matches). Most fans bought into the nonsense the media were spewing and couldn't see how well we were actually progressing. Once Ronaldo came in, everything fell apart. We no longer pressed up front the same way or passed the ball around the same way as we see in this video. Once Ronaldo came in, everything fell apart. This comment betrays the truth of all this. Ole did well with what he had, but it was trying to ‘bring back’ Fergie. He was never ever going to win the league or CL for us. Ten Hag hasn’t got much more to show for his efforts so far, but the key thing is he is building something different and NEW. Which has then been galvanised by the INEOS movement. It has to be this level of change that can rebuild United to a title-challenging team. That’s bigger than any manager. Ten Hag has won titles and won titles straight away with this team. Ole never had the appropriate CV for the job, he was never going to bring elite levels of anything, including success. And he never will, for those saying to give him another chance!

Ole was building something amazing, you could feel it during the build-up to his final season... The team was like a well-oiled machine, the attack was very fluid with lots of pace.
However, he made a crucial error in signing Ronaldo. Suddenly, instead of being a team with multiple sources of goals, everyone started looking to serve Ronaldo. It made it easier for opponents to predict United's gameplay. Also, Ole struggled to adjust his team shape to accommodate an ageing Ronaldo, which made it easier for opponents to break through our lines of defence too easily.
Ronaldo is a legend, but Ole made the mistake of signing a player who felt bigger than the team.
Ole himself destroyed what he had painstakingly built over the years.
Nevertheless, thank you Ole for the few wonderful years of spectacular counterattack football. Wish he won at least one trophy to mark his legacy as a United manager

Ole gave us hope in our time of despair. But the management at that time was driven by motives for profit and cared less for game. If only he had the backing like Erik has now Manchester United would have had the resurrection they desperately longed for.

No chance. He took the team's goal total from 121 in the season before him (which was a record number of goals last matched by Rooney, prime Ronaldo, Tevez, Berbatov, who won the CL) down to 74 total, just so he could get his 20ish goals. The Ronaldo signing ruined the team, far from a blessing.

If everything would have turned right, Ole could have aligned a better XI than the one we have nowadays : De Gea, Dalot, Shaw (actually good as a CB and better than Maguire imo), Varane, AWB, Pogba, VdB, Fernandes, Rashford, Cavani, Greenwood. Unfortunately, he destroyed the career of some of them and was completely clueless at times. People seem to forget that watching this clip. A video can easily manipulate opinion. But I remember well the horrible football we were often playing. Especially against defensive teams. Well, perhaps he needed more time, that is true. Also he needed to be listened, because he is actually a pretty good selectionner. He should try to coach a country team. That would fit him better. Hopefully, EtH and Ineos definitely put us back on track.

Watch Ole's talks in "The Overlap". He wanted to go 'next step' after reaching 2nd in league, moving the team from playing counter-attack into ball dominance.
Then CR7 came, and the plan failed. Its not their fault but somehow everything didn't work.

I've never understood how that goal against Sheffield United is considered as a "counterattacking goal"...the move literally began with our throw-in. Js cz it was quick, flowing and looked spontaneous, it's assumed to be counter attack.
