  • A short hike to the Wheeler Camp Spring in the Red Rock National Conservation Area near Las Vegas, Nevada. This spring is named for Lt. George Wheeler, who led surveys to map areas of the United States from 1869 to 1879. It is believed that he camped in this area in 1869 and 1871.
An easy hike has been outlined by Jim Boone and can be found at his BIRD AND HIKE website. This area was also designated as a conservation site to protect the riparian fauna and flora. Much of this is owed to Vernon Bostick, an ecologist who worked tirelessly to conserve many natural sites in this area.
