      Man, I got my hands on a black and blacked out 2019 R, and I slapped an intake and the APR stage 1 low torque tune (warranty) on it, and it’s a BEAST. My last two cars (aside from my current 21 Jetta that’s my daily and the 19 R) were GTIs that were APR Stage 2, and seriously, the R is just on another level. Everything about the personality of the R is significantly more aggressive than even a stage 2 GTI, and when you put just a semi-aggressive stage 1 ECU/TCU tune on the R- it puts the modded GTI experience to shame. Don’t get me wrong- I absolutely love GTIs but the R has permanently spoiled me. I like the 7.5 Golf R a lot more than the MK8.
      Another crazy thing is just how uncommon they are. I live in the 4th most populous city in the US, and in the last 8 months that I’ve owned the car, I’ve only seen one other one and including the one I own, I’ve only seen 5 Golf Rs on the road here since they were introduced and I drive around a lot.
      Man, I am stoked as hell that you’re rocking an MK7.5 because I totally get how freaking awesome it is to own and drive one of these cars. 🤘🤘🤘

    • @RegalAutosport
      @RegalAutosport  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Thanks for the comment and kind words! APR claim around 370HP / 383lbfts on APR ECU + TCU without any other mods, on their specific dyno in whatever conditions the cars were run in.
      It's well known that the 4 piece intake on these cars is wroth 10-20HP (not all at peak), not to mention incredible turbo and engine sounds with the turbo not having to run at an as high duty cycle to achieve the boost request.
      If you love the stock engine sound, stock turbo sound, stock engine bay aesthetic and don't want optimum performance - stay with the stock intake.

    My personal experience having gone to APR Stage 1 is that the difference from stock is truly startling and for road driving you really feel the difference. However, more power generates more heat and I found that track days or light motor sport soon started to bring up the heat warnings on the dash (let alone standard brakes catch fire but that's another story). With even a stage 1 car, if you intend to use on track I recommend you get the intercooler as well. It really does keep the temps under control.

      99 RON V-Power for the best results. With the stock DSG software you will need the 'Stage 1 low output' which is for stock DSG software, then when you get the DSG software we can install the 'Stage 1 high output' software which is designed for use with DSG software.

      @eatsleepandskate1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RegalAutosport I didn’t say that. If a gpf model had stage 1 and a pre gpf had stage 1, MRC have shown that the gpf model made more power. Stronger internals on the gpf engine. Feel free to have a look. My comment was referencing to the gents comment about buying a pre gpf car for tuning.

    • @purplepulser
      @purplepulser 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@eatsleepandskate1 Not entirely accurate. I spoke with Doug @ MRC while having my 7.5 Pre GPF car remapped and he said the GPF cars do make more power BUT only if you remove the GPF, but of course that's illegal to do on UK roads and would fail an MOT. GPF cars have to run more boost pressure as standard in order to output 300ps due to the more restrictive GPF cannisters. Have a look at the R Owner forums as there's plenty of people on there that will confirm this, to the point where stage 2 GPF cars will output about 400ps at around 1.9bar of boost. Mine was stage 1 and I still achieved 395ps at 1.74 bar. Ash's comments about the 7.5 vs 7 are essentially correct though, however normally the mk7.5 would be expected to achieve higher gains than a mk7, and i'm not sure why this isnt the case in this scenario (maybe the fuel is a factor). The biggest mechanical differences between the two is the 7 speed dsg box which can handle more torque, and that in turn generally allows the mk7.5 to run slightly higher figures

    • @eatsleepandskate1
      @eatsleepandskate1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@purplepulser yeah that makes sense, I should’ve said stage 2 vs stage 2 as an example as then they’d both be in the same situation with no cat and no gpf. Yeah on mrc’s Instagram all the gpf golf R’s when matched in mods to a pre gpf the gpf model made more torque and power. That’s also what I was going by. And yeah the dq381 on the 7.5 isn’t it? I remember seeing something about that when I had ordered mine

    • @purplepulser
      @purplepulser 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@eatsleepandskate1 Yes, 7sp DQ381 on the mk7.5 vs 6sp DQ250 on the mk7. If getting a stage 1 remap on a mk7, most tuners will recommend getting the TCU remapped as well to increase clamping pressure, to cope with the torque. You can always opt for a low torque output if you are dead set on not getting the TCU remapped, but I have never seen the point of that. The mk7.5 doesn't strictly need a remap at stage 1 levels, but its still recommended and I had it done anyway, because its not just about handling the torque that's improved, if you think about it, with just an ECU remap, the TCU doesn't expect the increased levels of torque and when you floor it, and inevitably surpass the factory rated limits, the TCU will probably start limiting torque to protect itself. The TCU remap is what resolves these issues.
      Shift behaviour is a massive improvement when remapping a DSG, i.e on track for instance, it won't tend to upshift when turning corners and holds the gear, often to the redline. Additionally, manual mode behaves properly, and it wont upshift and will bounce off the redline. Downshifts aren't affected. Lastly i think there's a variable speed launch control, though i've not used that yet.

      True but wanted to keep my warranty. Also I've had ecu tunes on previous cars and it's not that much better (butt dyno!). The real advantage for me is changing maps on the fly as I drive, esp. valet mode when dropping off at garages!

    No such thing as the best stage 1.
    My stage 1 for my 7.5 consists of Onvidia Q300 Cutback system, k&N filter, Bluespark ecu tuner. Fast enough for me at 330hp
