    That comparison was fun! I remember watching The Bible Series when it came out, and at that time seeing a Jesus who smiled seemed like a huge leap from all the previous movie versions of Jesus. They really didn't do the story well becasue they were trying to show the whole Bible, so didn't spend enough time developing context and backstories, like The Chosen has done. I love that The Chosen decided to focus on the people around Jesus and help us understand them-- it makes the gospel seem so much more relatable to me because I can see my own imperfections in this group of people that God chose to change the world. And of course, Jesus' humanity is demonstrated so that He seems more approachable, than the Jesus of The Bible Series who comes across as a revered oracle.
    Thank you for comparing them side by side!

    For one thing, the cast of The Chosen is young, attractive, and full of personality. That appeals to a younger audience. Then there is the music, it's so unique and emotionally evocative. Finally, the writing uses all of the writing tricks of the trade, like cliff hangers. You're constantly wondering what's gonna happen next. We can all relate to the characters on a personal level, the anger, worry, sorrow, and we can see how following Christ is the answer.

    Hi Brandon, before I was told about the Chosen by my grandson ( he’s 31 ) . My favourite movies were Jesus of Nazareth , the Bible and the Teb Commandments. All which were made many years ago when I was young. But after starting to watch the Chosen, they couldn’t compare. It brought the bible to life for me like those old movies never did. I’m learning so much about the people, the customs and culture from the days our Lord walked among men. I was “ empty “ but now I am “ full” . If you can understand what I mean. I have watched all your videos on TH-cam and I promise you I have learned so much. Thank you Brandon Peace ✌🏻🙏🙏🙏

    One thing I never thought about while watching other Bible shows/movies is the age of the disciples. Usually they are portrayed as much older. But in The Chosen they are still fairly young. Which makes sense because most of the older Jewish men at that time would've been married with families, and the only one mentioned in the Bible with a wife and mother in-law is Simon Peter.

    • @missAlice1990
      @missAlice1990 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Well, Jesus was 33 when he died so it makes sense he'd choose people around his age, in their late twenties, early thirties. The disciples were expected to travel the world, spread the word and help people in need, long after Jesus's death and resurrection, they must've been fairly young.

    • @cate384
      @cate384 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Many theologians actually say the disciples were all teenagers, some as young as 12 or 13 with Peter being the oldest (possibly around 20-21) because he was married and paid taxes. I believe this makes the most sense with scripture, but I do love that the Chosen at least shows younger men as the disciples than past iterations.

    The fake looking wig on (who I think is) Jesus for starters. The Chosen casted very well with Jonathan Roumie. A lot of bible shows/movies do not get the casting right at ALL. Its really really important. I don't like to see biblical shows that cast people that are a different ethnicity from the geographic location of the show because it doesn't feel realistic. For example, the Netflix movie Mary felt like it was taking place in Northern Europe during medieval times in the Herod scenes. Bad casting takes away from the feeling of getting a peek into history, even though you know it's just a show.

      The Chosen has much more biblical, historical and doctrinal inaccuracies. The clothes are the most inaccurate of them all. Those clothes are clothes wore by servants and slaves and pagans not regular Jews. Jesus is unlikely to have been wore short dress showing his legs. Peter didn't wear short sleeves showing muscles in public.

    I'll look forward to seeing more comparisons, it's a fascinating subject.
    Having multiple episodes through multiple seasons is always going to give The Chosen the advantage - which has been well used on building up storylines.
    The main thing I think they can teach others is the one you pointed out - the difference between being natural and being performative. By being natural the viewer doesn't have that barrier 'This is a show, you are the audience', but the screen becomes a window into something more real.
    I'd be really interested in the different ways Mary Magdalen is portrayed, there are so many misunderstandings or misinterpretations about her.

    I love that you’re exploring the differences between The Chosen and The Bible series. As much as I loved The Bible series when it came out, looking back on it now, it feels like a bullet-point version. It’s like “Jesus said this…Matthew did this…Boom! Done! Moving on!” Like I think I remember in the next scene in The Bible series, there was one scene after where the apostles were briefly talking among themselves about how they didn’t trust Matthew. Mary Magdalene offered a pearl of wisdom and then that’s it. Done. The Chosen really has the privilege and advantage of stretching it out and fluffing it up with added dialogue, acting, and extra-biblical to make it feel more natural. That one scene where Peter forgives Matthew is and always will be my favorite.

    I remember hearing about The Bible series when it came out but didn't watch it because we didn't get the History Channel. It was a "movie of the week" mini-series. The Gospels were crammed into a 90 minute movie and it jumped from miracle to miracle, bible verse to bible verse . The thing Dallas talks about being a drawback of doing a Jesus movie.
    The series did get enough attention that NBC greenlight the same production company to make a 12 episode series that told the beginning of Acts called The Bible: A.D. That I actually saw and it's not bad, because it delves into the characters and focuses on one event, the resurrection. They used a different set of actors that were actually pretty competent. Their Caiaphas, Peter, Mary Magdalene, and Paul in particular gave good performances.
    But The Chosen is better, by far! 😉😊

    I liked The Bible series when it first came out too. But after The Chosen, it's hard to go back and enjoy it. Even when it first came out, things felt kind of rushed. Granted the gospel portions were drawn out over 3-4 episodes rather than the Old Testament narratives, but even that feels kind of rushed now. And time and time again, these comparison videos just show that The Chosen is just superior to it.
    I look forward to the next 3 seasons, and even more so this "Biblical Cinematic Universe" that is in production.
    Christian content In general has gotten a lot better. I remember watching Bon Hoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin" in the movie theater and occasionally I would find myself going "Oh yeah. This is a Christian movie." Not because of a lack of faith elements. It's about Dietrich Bonhoeffer for Pete's sake, but just because the movie felt really high quality. It had the quality production, acting, writing, etc., that you would expect from any secular movie. And it's Angel Studios. Could the era of cringey Christian movies and shows be over?

    I don't think it's about length or payoffs. I think it's because Dallas Jenkins has made every choice to make a good show above all else. He doesn't care if the actors believe what they're portraying, he just wants them to do a good job. He doesn't police the social feeds of the crew in case they say something that reflects bad on him. He doesn't try to push an agenda or a specific theology because it's story first and if he had to shoehorn in some justification for Calvinism (just a random example) or something in there, that would be less time he had to write a good story.
    And he doesn't even care about biblical accuracy or making sure the actors say the words as written in the bible. He writes good scripts that tell a good story inspired by the bible. Now does that mean that sometimes some cast or crew says or does something that he or his audience doesn't agree with? Yeah. And he doesn't care because the show's good. Does that mean that sometimes (often times) the liberties he's taken with the characters means that things happen out of sequence or sometimes are skipped in favor of something more entertaining? All the time. But, you know what those moments do? They setup an opportunity for this video series to say "Now let's open up the scriptures and compare". By being inaccurate it's probably doing more to get people to read the Bible than The Bible The Series does.

    The Bible is not an entertainment script, it’s history and instruction. To make it worthwhile on screen, you have to mix it with fiction.

You can't connect with the characters on the screen it's like watching a stage play. That's what makes the chosen pop from the screen. You absolutely connect with every single one of the characters. The writing is so genuine that the conversation and the teaching feels authentic. You can imagine being in the audience and truly listening to this. And the accents are consistent with Middle Eastern 1st century accents

    Shows with high ratings don’t impress God if they are not rightly divided. Having Apostles with medical problems and Jesus refusing to heal them along with a dying woman, or asking Matthew for advice for His sermon on the Mount instead of receiving revelation from God, etc. is a lie, aka not in the Bible. When we stand in the presence of God, we will be judged by God’s Word, the Bible, not The Chosen or any other movie.

    So with all questions to the creator of this version of Christ, why did he make Matthew autistic because lying about the scripture (law) to tell a version of God's truth is blasphemy. That's my inquiry into this video because you asked why so successful against all other religious teachings in biblical movies. I say that the lies must cease in accordance with God's truth or those who add or take away from God's truth shall be struck from the book of life. Pretty evident what should be done. No interpretation overrides God's truth. Otherwise it's just a false doctrine

    Sorry, but the depiction of The Parable of the Tax Collector and the Pharisee is more interesting and dramatic on The Bible show than on The Chosen. On The Chosen, you can barely make out what Jesus is saying.

    I strongly disagree with you...SIMON was going to SECRETLY betray his friends in order to avoid him and his family facing serious punishment for not being able to pay their taxes, and may have if Jesus didn't help him, so he was in no position to judge Matthew EVER, and in fact he intended to do something much worse...to betray his friends without anyone knowing, so he would not suffer any negative for his betrayal, while attacking Matthew for openly doing what he needed to do to survive. The tax collectors were not the ones imposing the taxes or getting to keep the money, they were doing a job, and some, like Matthew, actually cared about people and tried to help people figure out how to pay their taxes to avoid punishment, so how could they possibly be the worst of the worst as you've stated. That was the point Jesus was making...that Matthew was actually of better character than the religious leader who presented himself as having good character, demanded he be respected and rewarded for being good, when in truth he was not a good, kind, caring, fair person at all. How could tax collectors be worse than the ones imposing the unreasonable taxes for their personal gain, how could they be worse than those imposing horrible punishments if people couldn't pay these unfair taxes, how could they be worse than the religious leaders who called for their own people to be punished and even killed if they did something harmless like hurt their egos or fail to follow their unreasonable, excessive rules, etc. Obviously what you said is unreasonable. And you failed to provide ANY valid, fair reasons for saying The Chosen was better than The Bible series...it seems you only said it to attract viewers to this video for personal/financial gain, which is not consistent with being a true follower of Yeshua. And you outrageously suggesting you know what God approves of by stating God prepared those who made The Chosen, and prefers their work above the work of others, is VERY SERIOUSLY WRONG. You DON'T speak for God, and do NOT know what God did or did not do relating to shows or films or ANYTHING! If I were you I would repent for wrongly saying this and NEVER AGAIN falsely suggest you speak for God about anything!

    Visions of Jesus by saints through the centuries is a man with hair to his shoulders and long tunic not mini Skirt. The Chosen has Jesus clothes very wrong and the clothes of regular first century Jews.

      @TehZach1993 also not click bait 😂. The series is good yes, but in this example (Matthew being called) it doesn’t work or flow properly, because of the reasons I state. Much love my 1993 brother.
