1952 jukebox Seeburg C selection issue - no selections

- 1952 seeburg C 45 rpm , 100 selection jukebox. red oak veneer with hand rubbed tung oil. no selection issue/no volume. 26 year old restoration and only 2 issues and 10,000 plays later. well sorry, had to cut out the playing of the song, oh well. :-(
Any, a full restoration is the only way to go for reliability long term and stop yourself from constantly chasing issues. - เพลง
Very nice looking “C”. I’ve had one for 35 years now, I love the machine. Mine is fully functional and in nice condition but not as nice as yours. Thanks for showing your beautiful machine.

The Seeburg manual for this machine is really detailed and covers every adjustment. Probably over 100 pages. I restored one is the 1980's and the manual was quite helpful. Don't knw where you would find it now, Seeburg was still in business and for a fee photo copied it for me.
Victory Glass which produces many parts should have them also Always Jukin which is a very good publication on repairing and articles and such, also may sell them. they also have a lot of advertisers.
The moral of the story? Often times something simple!

Hello Sir! I recently started having low volume issues, just within the last week actually. My M100C was gone through about 8 years ago. Anyway, you mentioned a capacitor turned out to be the issue. Would you be able to tell me what capacitor caused that issue so I can check it out? Also, I see you are using a Thorpe cartridge in your machine. How do you like it? Thanks for your help!! I also liked your going over the credit unit. I’ve had no issues, but I have a better understanding of how it works now. Thanks!!
I wish I could remember which cap it was. google for BIll Bickers Jukebox friday night and email him. he will probably know which one once u describe the issue and could sell you a cap for it. I wrote it down somewhere but cant find it. you might want to put a note in the box once you find out which cap. As far as the Thorpe it sounds good, but the needles can shift easily and twist off to the side sometimes. I did try putting a tiny piece of clear tape directly over the base of the needle and it worked fine for a long time to prevent this from happening, not that it happened often. then i replaced the needles and never bother to put the tape back on and its been ok. glad you found it helpful.

One question…. I bought a free play switch from Victory glass. Do you know if that cancels out the record selection buttons. I find that the records play continuously with the switch engaged. I don’t have the coin mechanism operational presently… thank you
I am not familiar with VG free play switch. I would not think it would cause canceling out the record selection buttons. I would think it would just give a permanent credit and still allow you to select whatever selection you want. But I may be wrong, you would have to ask VG how their free play device works.
It doesn't cancel the Selector. It bypasses having to throw money into it to play music
Excellent information. I am assembling my 1950 Seeburg B… not bad so far but we will see once it is done. I wish that these switches were made better. Wondering if they could be replaced by something else more modern. Your thoughts…
Victory Glass just started making new amps for these jukeboxes which allows using your phone to make selections. i dont know anything else about this new amp. My opinion is as long as switches are complete and you do a thorough cleaning, rebuild and adjustments during your restoration they will work for decades without issues, as long as you play them once a month or so which i always enjoy playing them.
Did they rebuild the amp with modern components and if they did, did they try to make it retro for ex putting modern caps inside paper cap shells? Did they use cloth or enamel wire? Really nice jukebox.
yeah, i sent this one out to be rebuilt like 25 years ago when i did the restore. all modern caps/resistors, vacuum tubes tested, pots replaced as needed. but no, they did not keep the paper caps as shells, its all hidden inside the amp body so you dont see it anyway. still sounds awesome! complete restorations is really the only way to go for reliability and lubricating just right as needed after resto.
can you possibly put a video out on how to change the pilasters on a 1952 seeburg. I am afraid of breaking the new ones and they were not cheap. Thank you , any help would be appreciated.

Great video. We just inherited one from my in-laws. Everything works great and the condition looks just like yours but, the needle that rides the left side of the record usually plays for a bit and starts to loop the same section of music until I stop it. Could that be a needle or an arm pressure issue? Also, the turntable section seems pretty loud like it needs to be lubed and left on with no records playing, there's a pretty annoying low frequency buzz coming out of the speaker.
If you dont have the manuals for it you can pick them up at Victory Glass. it will help with any adjustments you need to make. such as the needle pressure. it will also help with what kind of lube and where to lube the turntable. yeah, if it needs lube the vibrations go right thru the needle and into the cartridge. there are rubber grommets in the turntable that may need to be replaced as well. the manuals will go over how to do this. it is a great box. restored mine about 26 maybe even 30 years ago and it still plays great!
Mine had records stored under the glass, and someone made a selection and the selector crashed into them. Now when I make a selection the selector doesn't move to pick up that record, Is there a shear pin? The turn-table still spins...
I do not believe that would be the issue. have a look at the reversing switch. it may have gotten hit and broken. it is like a little flapper that changes direction when the mechanism moves all the way to the right or left. Also, you can just try lifting the lever that is under the mech cover. it is just the right of the tonearm when you get the mech cover off. sometimes this resets everything. lifting will cause the record to play at the position the mech is in at the time. it should then just play the record normally and place it back in the record stack and go and get the next selection. The other possibility is maybe the scan switch or mech on/off switch got hit. raise the glass/dome and look around for on/off switch and a scan swtich. try moving them in the opposite direction . one of them looks like a toggle switch usually.

How do you remove the 2 covers on the right and left where the flourescents are?
HI Harold, it has been a long time since I did the restoration on mine. i think you need to go in the back of juke and there may be blocks on the top and/or bottom that are pushed up against the pilaster that you have to take off. then you may have to lift the pilaster straight up and maneuver it out.
I have the opposite problem. It scans & loads the record but as soon as the needle touches the record it rejects & goes to the next selection so it won't play anything. Any ideas?
The manual has a troubleshooting section and goes over several causes for this type of behavior. sometimes it can be caused by the cancel plunger not lining up and canceling the selection (there is a rail in the back of the mech that has the 100 selection pins and two cancel solenoids). it can be caused by several different points under the mech cover not being adjusted properly. it can also be caused by the mech itself not being lubricated on the appropriate locations causing the mech not to line up like it should. BUT FIRST just have a look at the tonearm. you will notice a tiny trip wire hooked up to it toward the bottom of the tonearm so that when the toenarm reaches the end of the record this tiny wire moves just enough to cuase the contact point to engage, letting the mech know to cancel the record and return it to the tray. this might be sticky and not resetting/reseating itself back to normal / play position thus causing it to always be cancelling after picking up the record.
@@allthingsdiymike1106, thanks Mike for the response but no luck so far. Everything described in the manual for said problem as well as your suggestions seem to be working correctly. The only thing I was not able to check was something the troubleshooting chart mentions is a sticking "reject button". I am unable to find anything anywhere else in the manual referring to a reject button & do not know where it is.
EDIT: I was finally able to locate the "reject button" but it is working correctly. At the moment I am stumped as to what to do next but I'll keep plugging away. If you happen to think of any other suggestions I would really appreciate it. Cheers.
@@oldiesalternative5715 there is a site out there called jukeboxaddicts you can join up and post your issue on there. when you say its working correctly for the reject button and for the trip wire i mention above are you sure it is making and breaking contacts? you should test it with a multimeter set on ohms to test for continuity and to make sure continuity is breaking at the correct time as well.
Mine won't select song. And when I turn power on the turn table sits there and spins
hmmm....there is a troubleshooting section in the manualsthat goes over this. there could be several reasons for it. under the mech cover there is a lever you can flip up to activate the trip solenoid. this should then cause the record to return to the tray and the mech should either start scanning if there is another selection made or the mech will stop and just wait for another selection to be made.

@@brianlare1365 Hi Brian, glad it is working. These are just awesome boxes. so beautiful and when properly restored give many years of trouble free service. I restored this one a long time ago 25+ years?. and have only had to do a couple o minor adjustments to it even after moving it between houses and honestly i didnt pack it properly for the move and was quite pleased it worked after the move.
I am sure it is a solenoid that needs cleaning they are not making a good connection, everything has to work in sequeince
