I hate the style of "combo nozzles" with the GPM selection built in right behind the nozzle pattern adjustment. I have large hands so I often wind up grabbing ahold of both adjustments simultaneously without knowing it and end up changing the GPM setting on the nozzle without meaning to do so.
Thankfully, at my department this style of nozzle is relegated to use only on the 1.5 inch preconnect lines on our 2,000 gallon tanker, another nozzle to attach to the 4 rolls of 1.5 inch line that's in the compartments on the small tanker (it's our first due apparatus for brush fires and has pump & roll capability) and a couple more in one of the compartments on our bigger, 4,000 gallon tanker to use with it's extra rolls of 1.5 inch line.
We rarely put these lines to use on fires, but recently made good use of them on a large mutual aid fire that occurred in a old railyard building packed full hardwood flooring, miscellaneous lumber, and a handful of forklifts and other things.
We responded with our 75 foot quint and both of our tankers. Due to high winds and the extreme fuel load that was present, we wound up doing most of the fire attack with the aerial masterstream and used the 1.5 inch nozzles and hoses off the tankers to provide protection for the apparatus, to cool/wet down surrounding areas of woods that were being exposed to the heat in addition to extinguishing a burning dumpster and conducting overhaul and final extinguishment of deep seated hot spots with them.
