My elderly next door neighbors asked me to help them with their sprinkler system, and having never dealt with an irrigation system before, I was fortunate to find you on TH-cam; long story short, you did great in teaching me what I needed to know. Thanks so much!!
My old control box went bonkers so ordered a X-Core. My son installed it but I’ve had the pleasure of setting it up. I’m a 83 yr old lady & somewhat technically challenged. It was getting frustrating reading the directions so decided to try TH-cam. I watched your video & voila. Crystal clear. Thank you so much.
Thanks for this. I recently moved into a house with an X-Core system and have had a time of figuring out how it all works. Couldn't understand what I was doing wrong where I got the schedule sorted but it would just run the program over and over again even after the setup 1hr time for the 4 zones was done. This helped me realise that I was setting the controller up incorrectly and making it run the schedule through 4 separate times in one day! Thanks again.
A helpful video - thank you. I have had this Hunter for years and the needs were simple. Now, with a more complex garden I have had to do some more learning about how to set different start times for different parts of the garden. This has helped greatly. Thanks again, from south western Australia.
Very helpful video indeed. I was always depending upon my sprinkler guy but now with practice I can do it in my own. Thankyou so much for this video. Very helpful.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much! The written directions have me a lil boggled and frustrated! Being in a drought I feel horrible thatI am not doing my part to save as I had 4 programs set up! Now I can save both water and $$$! You're the best!
Thanks for this great video. We recently moved from the rainy NE to the sunny state of Texas so this was my first time in my life owning a house with a sprinkler system and it was this same Hunter X-Core. I felt like I'd need to read that manual 5 times before I wrapped my head around it but this video was FAR easier to digest.
Right there with you, bought a Florida home and this thing is confusing as hell! I badly need to get mine up and running and will be working on it using this video in a few days. Finally, something to make sense of this damn controller sheesh!
Just bought a home with a Hunter X-Core and the seller didn't provide much detail on how to use the system. Thanks for this great walk-through. Very helpful!
I appreciate your answers to some questions in the comments! I also had those same questions that were answered in the comments. I don't have this particular model of controller (I have the X2), though they are very similar in operation. I agree that the written instructions were somewhat confusing. I will be saving this video in case I need to refer back to it. Thank you so much for this video! I learned a lot from it.
Thanks for the instructions, our previous home had a Rain Bird system. Much more user friendly. New house obviously has the one you were instructing on. Still complex and awkward but your video sure helped. Thanks
I had trouble getting mine to work. I moved the sensor by pass switchup (not on active) and placed a jumper on the terminals for the sensors. Also set the seasonal adjustment to 100%. This solved the problem.
So I literally just did this with my husband. He actually stood outside and watched to see if anything came on and where it was. I actually found out I have eight stations that it looks like four are run up front and four are run in the back. I set it to the manual one station that's to the left underneath the system off and tested it out for 1 to 2 minutes by putting it for one or two and then put back to run.. This just gave my husband time to get to that part of the yard front or back to see where it was coming from. Once the one minute I programmed on the manual part finish, I've then tested out the other 7 to see if I actually had 8 different areas of sprinklers. Each time I would put it back on run. That's how I found out that I have a total of 8, where in this video, I think he said he only had a total of six. I hope that helps.
Thanks so much! They tend to over complicate their explanations sometimes instead of breaking it down in smaller, more digestible parts. I appreciate your comment!
We bought a used home with this exact system. My water Bill was 143.00 last month, double what normal is around here in summertime. Please clarify something - concerning using A, B, C…what is the advantage of having front yard on A and backyard on B vs. programming everything on A, if seasonal changes and variety isn’t desired in programming times, ongoing? Thanks for clarifying! Great video!
Hi, thanks for watching! The only reason I like to split up my front and back into separate programs is because sometimes I’ll make an application of something to one part of the yard and not the other and I like to be able to water in that particular section without watering the entire yard. If you don’t have any good reason to separate the two then it’s perfectly fine to put them into one program!
The video was very helpful. A question - how do you handle the odd even function for watering days? My system appears to be watering on days that are not specified and I fear this function may be the culprit. Also, one you turn your system off, how do you turn it back on? Thank you.
I've never used it but I believe if you continue to click PAST Saturday on the watering days menu, it takes you to the ODD/EVEN days menu. To turn the system from "off" to "on" you just click it to "RUN".
Every video that I have found is all about setting up the program start times, number of minutes, etc. I bought a brand new house & my builder programmed everything for me before my close date. I just want to find out what time of day my sprinkler system was set up to turn on, for how many minutes, how many days per week, etc. It is 115 degrees here this week & some of my plants seem to be dying.
I am having trouble picking the day I want to water. I pick the date and it just goes to the next day. Should I clear it? Start over. Right now I have to do it Manually. It isn’t warm enough, but we haven’t had rain since the first of the year here in California.
Thanks for the video. Zone 1 on my sprinkler system stays on when the controller is turned off, and it stays on unless I unplug the controller. Any suggestions what the issue might be?
Yes. Two separate start time will run the complete cycle at two different times. This split is usually utilized to prevent saturation from one long watering, leading to runoff.
Hi, thank you for the video. I have six stations. I want them to run for 15 mins each Sun-Sat. Do I have to choose A, B? Or can ? Or can I just use A? How and why did you break them up?
I don’t have a program specifically for my foundation, but I would still recommend around an inch of water a week. Like with your lawn. That can be from rain or irrigation. Ideally, you could install a soaker hose for your foundation. I think you’ll typically run those 2 or 3 times a week. 30 minutes a pop.
This is a great video finally understand how my system works one question how long should run times be for a standard sized backyard to maintain grass. I live in California not much rain at all gets to over 100 right now in the summer
It really differs everywhere based on lawn size, sprinkler heads, and pressure, but my system needs around 15 minutes per zone to put down 1/2” or water.
I have sprinklers in the front yard and back yard. My front sprinklers are not turning on only the backyard. How do I turn the front yard sprinklers on as well?
New resident here with the Hunter system. I've done all the set times and what not, even did the manual run but it still isn't working. Is there a shut off valve I need to find and turn it on?
I have this model and I can't program the START times for each zone. None of these videos address this. I have 6 zones and am able to program the RUN times, but can't program the different ZONES for when they come on. Any help would be appreciated.
Please instruct how to manually run all scheduled stations on a non-programed day (ex., run all stations, one time event, on tuesday, in addition to scheduled date on Wed). Txs.
If you wanted them all to run through at once, you would need to create a program, or set your program to run on multiple days. If you're willing to switch them on manually, one at a time at the controller, you can take that route by flipping to the manual-one station mode, choosing your duration, then clicking back to the run mode on the dial.
You can actually run all stations (in order, of course) by pressing and holding the right arrow button and station 1 will display on the screen with the minutes blinking... use the + key to add how many minutes you want to water and then turn the dial back to the Run position and it will water all stations. You can also cycle forward to start at a different station. So say you want to water the back yard only, cycle forward with the right arrow to the station you want to start at, then turn the dial to Run. @LawnInsider
I have a confusing issue. The system is showing Tuesday when today is actually Wednesday. This makes it confusing when programming which days to water. Is there a way to adjust the system so that the day of the week in the system is correct??
Nice work explaining this but how about the odd and even days how do you turn that off and will if affect the day you want the system to water ur grass.
Thank you for posting this video! We just moved into a new home and it rained for a week straight. Our yard is ruined , the back is disgusting, filled with mildew everywhere and I don’t think the builder wants to fix it 😑
Yikes! Hopefully you'll have a better idea of what you're up against once it dries a little. If it's a problem they created, then they should help you out!
Hi, our irrigation guy set 3 times a week for us. Then we got heavy rain so I put the system off. When I turn back on, will I get the settings irrigation guy made for us?
You could definitely do that. All you would do to switch between programs during the differing seasons was set all the days as “off” for the season you’re not using. You’ll find that under “water days” on the dial.
I have 4 zones set for 15 min run times each. Would i have to set the start times 15 min apart? Thats what i did as i dont want all 4 running simultaneously.
Hello. I am learning how to use the system. I have the system turned to the off position but it still watered my lawn even when it’s raining. Please help.
Rotate the knob to run, leave it there for a couple seconds and then go back to off. You should see “OFF” flashing. Mine does this if I rotate between settings too quickly.
TO MANUALLY RUN ALL STATIONS: Press and hold the right arrow button and station 1 will display on the screen with the minutes blinking... use the + key to add how many minutes you want to water and then turn the dial back to the Run position and it will water all stations. You can also cycle forward to start at a different station. So say you want to water the back yard only; cycle forward with the right arrow to the station you want to start at, then turn the dial to Run. @LawnInsider
how do i manually start it to run through all eight zones??? you got it man, from rum position you have to hold rh arrow for like five second and it goes through all of them. T Y
Thanks for the tips - I have the same model, also inherited in our current home, and I have to say it is a piece of feces. I'm ready to junk it and replace it with a Rain Bird.
My Hunter X Core did not run at set up time. Shoud I switch to ACTIVE ? Right now at Sensor Bypass . Thanks. Also, I setup Mon Wed Fri buy the Hunter did not run and show SA at the bottom. How can I turn SA off ? Thanks a lot.
The problem im haveing with mine is its not cycling thru the stations i have them all set 1-4 stations to come on for 5 mins each but insteaf the same one just stays on for 20 mins
Does the controller automatically cycle through the different programs at their specific start times or do you have to manually have to change the program you want to run by pressing the PRG button with the dial set to RUN?
Sir, i have 13 station garden, is 8 station hunter controller is suitable? And addition. What is purpose for Program 1 & 2, is it mandatory to set up both?
It seems like you would need two X-Core controls for that many stations, but I’m not positive as I only have 6. You don’t have to set up both programs. I just have my front and back lawns separated into their own programs.
@@LawnInsider sir thank you, i did already what step you explain and it works for the 1st-4th sration and we have a 12 station/island and my hunter timer has a 16 station the distance from the cotroller to other island maybe maximum 30m. My problem is why other island has no water pressure? Is it because of water supply or the solenoid malfunctioning problem?
In order for stations 3 and 4 to be “on”, you simply need to set a start time by clicking the plus or minus buttons. The different programs can be as different or as similar as you make them. For instance, I have program A controlling my front yard and program B controlling the back yard.
I just moved to greenville sc, and am wondering how to winterize or simply shut down my Hunter x core underground lawn sprinkler . I have a BIB valve in the garage and also a water controller at the edge of the yard. I was thinking that all I need to do is cut of the BIB valve in the garage. OR do I need to also cut off the water supply at the yard? Also is there a need to run any of the zones in the yard ( I have 6 zones on .30 acre) Thank you for any details.
When frost is about to come, I usually connect an air compressor to the water pipes, and then turn on the zones so that most water comes out. I have to do it for all zones several times until most of the water is gone, so whatever is left will not busy the pipes if it freezes.
Your system is separated into stations. My lawn has 6. The irrigation system runs one station at a time in sequential order until the entire program is complete. For instance, my front yard is station 2. Back yard is divided into stations 4 and 5.
My elderly next door neighbors asked me to help them with their sprinkler system, and having never dealt with an irrigation system before, I was fortunate to find you on TH-cam; long story short, you did great in teaching me what I needed to know. Thanks so much!!

Thank you sir. Don’t typically comment but I was able to set up the house and check my drip lines. Love from Colorado 🤙🏾
Thanx for making this great video. Very easy to follow and handle the programming
Good Job, I had to redo everything and this helped as a few stations the drips are not working now at least I have an idea where to start.
Thank you. I could finally fix my lawn irrigation.
I got same Irrigation control panel. This video does help and save me about $200 to ask a pro. Thanks

Oh wow! Glad to help! Keep the money in your pocket.
Hi. Thank you for the helpful video. Please explain how to connect the wiring. I have 6 stations, but i only see the screws on 1 and 2
Thanks for the video. Zone 1 on my sprinkler system stays on when the controller is turned off, and it stays on unless I unplug the controller. Any suggestions what the issue might be?
I would guess it has something to do with the solenoid in the nearest irrigation valve.
Thanks Brother! Great Video!
you're the best, thank you so much for putting this video out there for us.
Thank you for the compliment! That means a lot!
when you say starat times, and you set two does that mean it is running twice a day at different times?
I know this is an older video, but how often and for how long are you watering your foundation?
I don’t have a program specifically for my foundation, but I would still recommend around an inch of water a week. Like with your lawn. That can be from rain or irrigation. Ideally, you could install a soaker hose for your foundation. I think you’ll typically run those 2 or 3 times a week. 30 minutes a pop.

Hey not sure you covered it but how would you test each zone? Just moved in to a new house and want to where each zone is. Thanks!
You would click to the manual test mode to the left, and switch your zones and run times on the controller there.
Then click it back to run.
I have sprinklers in the front yard and back yard. My front sprinklers are not turning on only the backyard. How do I turn the front yard sprinklers on as well?
If your stations in the front are scheduled to turn on and they’re not turning on, there might be an issue in here he valve box for those stations.
New resident here with the Hunter system. I've done all the set times and what not, even did the manual run but it still isn't working. Is there a shut off valve I need to find and turn it on?
We have an irrigation valve and main valve near the meter box at the street. I would definitely check there.
Thank you! Great instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! All the info that I needed.
Glad you found it helpful!
I have this model and I can't program the START times for each zone. None of these videos address this. I have 6 zones and am able to program the RUN times, but can't program the different ZONES for when they come on. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks so much. One question: isn’t there a mode for even and odd days to water?
There is but I've never actually set it up due to the restrictions our city has on watering days!
So ultimately after i set the scheduling up i need to leave the dial on run?
Yes, after the schedule is programmed in, you’ll leave it on run. Unless you’ve been getting a lot of rain and don’t need it that week!
Somehow I got into the calendar mode for Water Days with EVEN/ODD. Not sure how that works?
So say you want to water the back yard only, cycle forward with the right arrow to the station you want to start at, then turn the dial to Run. @LawnInsider
Any recommendations how I should set up days/times? I’m not familiar with any of this stuff
I've actually never set up the even and odd days because our city only allows watering 1 day a week most of the year!
Thank you for posting this video! We just moved into a new home and it rained for a week straight. Our yard is ruined , the back is disgusting, filled with mildew everywhere and I don’t think the builder wants to fix it 😑

How would you do a quick test to c what is what program?

Can i used P1 for winter season and P2 for summer season? How to deactivate P1 when it comes to summer season or P2.
You could definitely do that. All you would do to switch between programs during the differing seasons was set all the days as “off” for the season you’re not using. You’ll find that under “water days” on the dial.

How do I delete the program for b and c?
Erase start times and run times. Or if you just don't want them to run, you can remove those watering days.
Does the controller automatically cycle through the different programs at their specific start times or do you have to manually have to change the program you want to run by pressing the PRG button with the dial set to RUN?
If the program has a start time and it doesn’t interfere or coincide with another program, it will automatically run at the start time.
Good information thanks

@@LawnInsider sir thank you, i did already what step you explain and it works for the 1st-4th sration and we have a 12 station/island and my hunter timer has a 16 station the distance from the cotroller to other island maybe maximum 30m. My problem is why other island has no water pressure? Is it because of water supply or the solenoid malfunctioning problem?
Totally confused about the A, b, c programs. What is the difference ? How do I change my system 3 and 4 to “0n”. My system 1 and 2 say “off”.
How can I turn all my sprinklers on all the same time?
As far as I'm aware, you can't. Has to do with water pressure.
Thanks, but I don't understand the programs vs the stations?
thank you for this bro
How do I know what’s on my a, b, c etc
You’ll first press the program button to whichever letter you want to check, then click to the start times and run times and see what’s been set up.
Thanks very much! This was just what I need to know.
Thank you so much!!
Thanks young man appreciate very good way to explain thanks again.
Thanks so much !!!!! 👍👍
Good work fella
Legend thanks mate
Hi. How do I program a fifth station? I can just scroll through 4 stations but doesn't go beyond that. Thank you.
That one through 4 is more run times. Not zones. This controller sucks.
What is a station?
Your system is separated into stations. My lawn has 6. The irrigation system runs one station at a time in sequential order until the entire program is complete. For instance, my front yard is station 2. Back yard is divided into stations 4 and 5.
