Old video, but just wanted to put in that I’m about to start an LVN program at a respected private nursing school in San Antonio and there are no pre reqs besides the TEAS exam. Just classes, labs, and clinicals right out the gate! Here, RNs do make substantially more: I.E., Home health is paying LVNs $35/hr, vs $50-75/hr for RNs. I do plan to bridge up in a few years.
Man that $35/hr is more than our RN new grads. The gap between myself as a LPN and a new grad RN is actually backwards. I would be making less as a new grad RN than I am right now. I am on a plateau though and don’t see much more of an increase. Good luck in school, it’s still hard but stick to it and you’ll be good in the end.
LPNs can not push cardiac meds. Initiate blood transfusions. Or access some infusion lines. The scope of LPNs is also very much dependent upon company policy and ones experience. I have been HOUSE supervisor in long-term care and or Rehab. and Lead nurse in hospital setting. Which means I supervise RNs. The one catch is a RN has to be on duty in case a task arises that is out of my scope. My pay has been as much as 33.33 an hour with minimal benefits. However, usual pay, I will not work for less than 25 in any setting.
LVN/LPN is def not being phased out. Healthcare is only becoming more & more needed and healthcare jobs are only continuing to increase especially with a growing population and the poor american diet that causes so many of the health problems we see today. And if some idiotic move were to be made that got rid of all LVN/LPN licenses then LVNs/LPNs would still have the opportunity to do one of the LVN/LPN to RN bridge programs to get licensed as RNs so there is no need to worry about job security in healthcare
Thanks for the insight. I think age is a factor for me. I'm going to go to nursing as a second career at around 40. If RN and beyond is the goal, then going the CNA, LPN, to RN route is adding is adding significant time.
@@ChrisThedudenurse Thanks brother for all the feedback. There is an ABSN near me in North Atlanta that's on my list of top 3 schools. I've been planning the ADN route, but maybe I should reconsider. The only reason it wasn't #1 is that it will require me to retake some additional pre-reqs, like a chemistry sequence. I suppose that's not too much given I will have taken everything else. It might come down to deadlines. Man, I hated chemistry the first go-round. It's been over 10 years though, so I have to re-take.
Thanks man! I'm goin to school this summer for LPN. I was thinking about surgical tech as well. My heart lies in this field I originally wanted to do Emt but that is a different beast. Anyway what all do LPNs really do and or not allowed to do and is there room for OR time?
Lidi G I’d start by taking a course from an accredited school as they often times have resources to help get you a job. Other than that find a good company to work with and good luck.
Thank you for your response!!! yes! actually it's because I'm in between starting at CNA or Phlebotomy (to get experience in healthcare industry before LVN!) 🙄
Lidi G if going into nursing my advice is always CNA. Nothing wrong with phlebotomy at all as I have worked with nurses who we’re phlebotomist 1st. I (never being a phlebotomist) feel that the CNAs get alittle more “nursing” experience, I’m alittle bias though as I was a CNA 1st. Phlebotomy is however a great place to start, and I would encourage anyone thinking of going into that field to go for it. I have met phlebotomist in nursing school and others who learned that phlebotomy is as far as they wanted to go and that’s ok too. What ever your decision is I wish you the best and good luck.
alex munguia I started making NOTHING at 16.50/hr as a new grad. Seriously. This was several years ago, but I make MUCH more than I did from back then.
I have an unrelated question why on Earth and there's such a shortage of healthcare professionals are we talkin about laying off thousands in the Greenville area?
Ryan Brothers forgive me for not knowing the geography of Colorado better but I have no idea as to which school that way would be the best. My advice would be to find a community college that has a LPN program as well as an ADN bridge program. Taking all your classes at the same school means everything will transfer. There are for profit schools such as Phoenix and ECPI that do have these programs but you will have to pay ALOT for those. Nothing against the education you’ll get from a for profit they are just very expensive.
Terrible assignments- that’s how hospitals are. I worked in registration/clerical and you best believe I got the worst patients as the newbie. Nightmare.
Jean Ivy 44,500 is about the average according to the internet www.indeed.com/salaries/Licensed-Practical-Nurse-Salaries,-North-Carolina. That seems about right but the least I’ve ever heard of was $15/hr at a doctors office and the highest I’ve ever heard was 35/hr as a flout nurse at a nursing home. So that’s a low of 31,200 a year and a high of 72,800 a year. I hope that answers your question.
Maybe not officially but we tell the MD that there are no signs of life and describe the patient. I’ve done it via fax and phone to MDs. They never even see the patient.
I love your accent!
Helena Fernandez thank you it’s real
IVE BEEN AN LVN FOR 3 YRS AND I FEEL LIKE I CAN BE A GOOD RN COZ MY SUPERVISORS ARE JUSY LAZY AF AND DOESNT WANNA DEAL WITH PATIENTS AT ALL.
Bobby _ so is it time to go after that RN?

Speak easy sounds like Kentucky is about like North Carolina.
That is awesome!! Grasshopper wants to grow up to be like you.!!

I couldn’t agree with you more.
Hey man thanks for the info, awesome talking points. I should be graduating this June, definitely gonna be something new in my life
Great time to get into nursing, as we are all learning day by day here lately.
Great video, I’m starting the LVN program in Texas next month and I’m super excited. Your video was very informative
Raptor Armament great I’m glad I could help. Good luck in the program.
Truth! LTC facilities will always use Lpn's.
dianayarasmom yes you could not hire only Rn’s at LTCs as the shortage would be even greater.
Crucial insight for me at this point thanks
blackl1steddrums thank you for watching.

jlmcgrot the best/fastest route for you maybe straight to RN. See if there is a BSN program near you that’s pretty easy to get into.

Good video, straight to the point! One question, according to your experience in healthcare industry, any advice in phlebotomy field? Thank you.
Lidi G are you going into phlebotomy or want to know more about it?

Ok! Thank you Chris! ! ! A new subscriber!
Say that brother!!! Speaking truth!!
Del du thank you.
Thanks for the video! I am going through a career change. I love helping others but not sure if I have the brain to complete the LPN program 😓.
job security thats what i want
once saved always saved mostly why I did it
You could always work at a school district as a lvn. I heard it’s really chill
Not in NC.
If you are an LVN (I'm in California) and want a RN paycheck then become a traveling nurse. The money is amazing
Sounds like a plan, but Money isn't everything.
Question what was your starting salary as a LPN to how much you make don’t wanna be personal and is there any way to increase pay
alex munguia I started making NOTHING at 16.50/hr as a new grad. Seriously. This was several years ago, but I make MUCH more than I did from back then.
Awesome video! Thanks for the encouragement!
J Woods thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Great Video
Michele Wardlaw thank you

Great info.
Verlina Ajman thank you.
I have an unrelated question why on Earth and there's such a shortage of healthcare professionals are we talkin about laying off thousands in the Greenville area?
Bill Parris which Greenville? I’ll have to look into it.
@@ChrisThedudenurse South Carolina this was reported on WYFF a few nights ago.
I would like to be lvn to have time for my family as well
You should go for it.
Do you have to be a cna before you you become a lpn or can you skip cna and jump right into a lpn program and go from there?
Tonya Hughes in my area you can not. You have to be a CNA to get into a nursing program.
I paid 36k for a private school in my area and no pre reqs at all. 12 months.
Skip being an LPN if possible.
Where in NC are you at?
Rafael Garcia I’m on the north west side of North Carolina.
I’ve had terrible experiences at SNFs as an LVN.
Mkinfknsndwyches ! It can be rowdy at times
Rowdy is one very accurate word to describe it, 😆!
Accurate !! INFO
want to do LPN first, but having trouble finding programs in Denver,Colorado to get my ADN any tips where I can get in school to get my RN

blank blank that’s just how it works
What's the salary in nc?

Chris The dude nurse thanks Chris. New grad starting wages? Is 22hr full time the norm?
twistedblktrekie picking up extra shifts is very easy as a nurse
Jean Ivy 22/hr is much more than I started making as a new grad. So not bad.
Chris The dude nurse what was your starting wage? What's the Raleigh/Fayetteville area wage? Thanks
LVNs can't pronounce death either.
Kathy Watkins is that a pro or con? Here you need a physician to sign off for that.
Yes, they can in Kentucky I personally have a 2nd nurse verify and document as such.
Kathy Watkins well who wants to do that lol
Yes you can. I've called a lot of funeral homes.
Maybe not officially but we tell the MD that there are no signs of life and describe the patient. I’ve done it via fax and phone to MDs. They never even see the patient.
