    Great video, but I think your comment on the "five minute walkable" design isn't taking in the account that people can go where they want. They don't HAVE to work or shop at the places nearest to them, and even beyond that, it's not like they're trapped in that single area. Each chunk isn't disconnected or inaccessible from any other place. The convenience is nice and it prevents things like food deserts or urban sprawl, which could become a real problem even before you added a third dimension to the space. There could also be public spaces such as parks and libraries or attractions like theaters and museums to motivate people to go beyond their usual route if one was that concerned. Especially given the fact this would be a city without cars, that means that they'd only be able to GO where they could fesibly walk. It evenly distributes resources, and since your neighbors are also your coworkers and such it creates a greater sense of community, which could help alleviate the loneliness epidemic in our modern society. Not saying that the line is a good idea or even possible. It's extremely stupid. Just I disagree with you on that one point.

      Love the input! And I do agree that they may not be trapped in a 5-min circle all the time. Maybe it’s something I just said as the emotions about the line come to me haha my bad!

    From a firefighter point of view, The Line is a fire death trap. Fire loves to burn in a vertical direction with an unlimited supply of fresh air feeding it from below. This project is more like a penal colony with no escape, than a nice place to live.

      Thanks for your comment and I agree, this is a very important point! Hazards and emergencies are hard to deal with in this confined space. Not to mention that the entry points are only the ends (plans aren’t clearly showing if there are any other entry/exit points) and the top.

    im an architect worked in high end projects. ur spot on with what ur comments. in the begining neom was designed in a way properly by an american professor as a line city not a skyscraper.

      @Cristouffer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, I feel like if it's a regular line city or maybe even just putting it along the body of water, it can work.

    I was supposed to work at Neom several years ago for engineering their water structure that would clean their water and desalinate sea water, etc. The plans they wanted were so absurd as the technology doesn't even exist yet. I literally thought they were messing with me when they asked me if my team could build it. I was like, "Wait, you don't even have a real plan, you want others to engineer something that doesn't even exist yet?" Let's just say it was a very short call.

      Woah, thanks for your comment! It’s interesting hearing from someone who was close to working on the project! Quite a story you have there! What did they answer haha or was it a classic “you go figure it out” thing? 😬

    Actually money will be the main problem. Just make a rough calculation how much 100 metres would cost. And then multiply that by 1700. $500 billion is not nearly enough. That's why the project will fail. They started to built 2.4 kilometres, but I am pretty sure that even those 2.4 kilometres will never be completed.

    • @Cristouffer
      @Cristouffer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I agree! Apart from the actual construction costs, transporting materials and housing workers will greatly add expenses to the project itself. Even more so since it's in a very remote location!

    Typically a design mitigates engineering issues, this creates them, which will add construction costs and likely increase maintenance expenses. The “Line” portion itself is likely a trillion dollar project and that’s just one aspect of NEOM. This design has no vortex shedding….wind will be an issue. At 200m wide this will let in 30 min of midday sun and almost none of that will reach the lower levels. It’s going to be like living in a Mall which I can’t imagine is appealing for a lot of people. A Mall in KSA at that, with views of dirt. NEOMs success is highly dependent on Trojena and whatever the floating tech portion is called. If these can’t be completed due to a lack of finance, everything just kind of falls apart. I have a feeling MBS is going to find himself down a rabbit hole and will likely have to sell off 50% of Armaco if NEOM is expected to be completed.

    • @Cristouffer
      @Cristouffer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! To be honest, that’s what got me into design and architecture in the first place. I love that it provides creative solutions to things but yeah the line missed that very important point.
      Yeah I can see Trojena and Oxagon (the floating thing haha) working as they are areas where people don’t necessarily have to “live in” it for it to survive. They have other uses aside from being a city for people to stay at. Though from what I’ve been seeing, there are already images of The Line being built but none yet for those two. Maybe I just haven’t seen them but I hope this doesn’t mean they’ll really build The Line first.

    • @martin4819
      @martin4819 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Cristouffer Wisely, KSA is building (at least the Line part) in stages. The first phase they hope to be done with in 2030 and for it to house one million people……so about 12-13 miles long or 1/9th the size. KSA is actually hosting the Asian Winter Olympics at Trojena in 2029 so I suppose they are on the hook to have that completed and I imagine Oxagon to some degree will need to be done if they are going to attract any professionals to the line. It will be interesting to see how things play out. The renderings are really cool but an architects or a Princes dream is an engineers nightmare.

    • @Cristouffer

    If it is one line, all one building together 170 km long, the glass walls will crack everywhere. Just look how much tolerance of movement a building like the Empire State Building needs to have, that multiplied by 1300, how much tolerance you need, see it cant work, never

    • @Cristouffer

      Haven't been in Saudi but from my trips sa Dubai over the years I do agree that the sun there is nice! Pero ang init tho and yun ang baka tumagos sa glass haha maybe it's just me but I can't imagine spending my life in a glass box haha nevertheless, if Neom can find ~9 million people to live in The Line and make it successful, I'm all for it! New waves in urbanism are coming left and right and this is probably just one of it! Either way, I'm curious in what Neom will do to change the future!

      Hahaha, actually akala nila Pag saudi is mainit na lagi ang sinasabi, hahaha.. nag sisimula ang init dito Sa saudi ay 3 to 4months Lang, start from June .. alam mo ba Pag tag lamig dito ay nag negative 3degrees. Kami na nga yung umaangal eh Sa lamig Mas matagal kasi yung tag lamig dito, hahah Saka Hindi nila e design yang mirror Ng wala Lang., Sa tingin nyo po isasapalaran nila yung Sustainability sanda mak mak ng mga puno at halaman lalo na Sa mga maninirahan doon, Simpre May counter heat yan..

    • @Cristouffer
      @Cristouffer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have family din sa Saudi kaya aware din ako sa climate there haha and we're talking sustainability, with or without the wall, one of the most unsustainable way to design a city is linear kasi growth and access is limited. Plus, if problem din na masyadong malamig meaning need ng heat source inside The Line which will most probably be heaters of some sort, unnatural, hence unsustainable.
