Hey, I have played with the Purgatus Staff a lot since the release of the game and I would like to add some more useful Information: 1. The Damage value of the staff is your LEAST important stat. The DoT damage is fix and it does not increase how fast you apply soulblaze. A higher dmg% on your weapon only increases the direct damge the staff deals which is really insignificant. Going from 40% to 80% only increases the damage of a leftclick by ~6-7 points (from 59 to 66 damage on an orgyn without any talents/perks/blessings). So don´t waste your money trying to roll a staff with a high Damage roll. 2. Your most important stat is Burn. It increases your maximum number of soulblaze stacks per target and how fast you apply them. The maximum number is 15. You reach the maximum number with 76% Burn, so there is no more increase/no difference from 76% to 80%. If your staff has 75% Burn or lower, don´t use it. 3. The Purgatus Staff has an incredibly low amount of possible blessings, with 5 in total and only 3 of them can be Tier IV. If you have a staff with good stats that you want to use and the first blessing you roll is low tier warp flurry or nexus, you can re-bless to terrifying barrage (the 3rd Tier IV blessing). This makes it so you are guranteed to get warp flurry/nexus IF you roll another Tier IV when you consecrate to legendary. Then you only need to re-bless terrifying barrage again to the warp blessing you are missing. Of course you can still get unlucky and roll one of the other 2 bad blessings, sadly. That´s all I have, hope it helps and good luck crafting!
Thanks for the info on the damage stat! That was very helpful indeed and I appreciate your breakdown on the points. However, I do want to point something out that has happened with other weapons. I generally recommend high rolls on key stats related to damage, even if the small point damages don't matter, because of potential future changes to the staff. In case they change how things work (which they have done in the past with other weapons). Rolling again is not quite so fun, so I like to ensure I do have something fully kitted out in relation to damage stats rather than seeking exact breakpoints. You are absolutely correct on the burn stat though and thanks again for the helpful info
One thing that i've looked at and would like to point out, burn 80 doesnt matter, it's burn 76. Since you can see the affect of all stat mods, a burn 80 staff has the same max stacks and application rate as a burn 76 stuff. geting an 80 is hard/expensive, so if you have a 76 burn with otherwise very high rolls else were, it should be just as good. No research i've done into this shows burn stat giving more damage per tick so rolling to get an 80 specifically can be a waste of time/money/other perfectly good staffs Break points are very important
One trick about purgatus staff is that you could use Cure Peril (Default R) button to cancel your LMB attack wind-up and get significantly increased LMB attack speed if done right. Basically LMB-R-LMB-R-LMB repeat fast. Could be stressful for your fingers though.
This is a known trick but generally considered unnecessary, while it can result in a faster attack speed. The default is sufficient even on maelstrom difficulty 😁. It's probably better for most players to master the dodging skills (imho) more useful across multiple builds as opposed to the cancel. If you like it though, go for it haha
Note that Perilous Combustion does not trigger when the elite/special you kill dies from soulblaze DOT. Any other damage sources are fine (bleed, burn, purgatus direct damage). I almost always rely on soulblaze DOT to finish things off which is why I don't like to run this talent.
That's not right, that is a horrid bug if that's the case. However, I must admit I am unsure, since I mostly either burn them out already OR use BB (which does trigger it at a distance).
Yeah I just tested it right now in the meatgrinder at damnation diff. Does not trigger with DOT but will trigger with the staff direct damage. Tested it with and without Wildfire to see if there's a weird interaction, still the same.
Hey Mr. Robot! You helped me out a couple days ago on the Assail psyker vid and after watching more of your streams I got a lot better at psyker and now find it a lot of fun! Thank you!
@@jakeklaus2691 Yeah, it depends on the base stats, blessings and perks. I have a few 540s and above. Whether they're good is another question though lol. Weapon rating doesn't matter btw. Just follow the stats that you need in the video, all of them are discussed and explained and I tell you what you need to focus on :)
Been trying something similar to this build. The 10 seconds of increased charge speed from kinetic resonance combined with empowered psionics gives you the chance to absolutely melt groves of bulwarks. I ended up using bolstered shield so I could have two charges to give me back to back 10 seconds of near instant brain zaps. Biggest downside is you need to have one charge of empowered psionics so any accidental non elite kill could squander an otherwise successful pop pop pop.
I have my build as purg smite, and have everything hit for crit. I typically get about 1.5k crit hits a game. Additionally, in high intensity situations with warp charges, I essentially never have to quell.
Purg smite is okay but generally considered bad as you have no ranged distance option. In high level play this can be a hindering factor. So do be cautious about it But if you feel comfortable using it. Go for it
Soft disagree on damage as a priority on the staff. The damage range is so small that anything above 60 will do just fine, and peril resist becomes so useful stacked with warp flurry
Yeah that's fair. Others have mentioned it as well. I agree with the points made. I just like rolling high on anything damage related for future potential changes (and for when crafting gets reworked. I hate losing God rolls). But just know that yall are absolutely correct that damage has a minimal effect
@@RealAsianRobot for sure, that's why the "soft". How each stat effects weapon performance can change significantly patch to patch. Been loving the build guides though; haven't played one I've disliked yet. Keep up the good stuff my guy 👍👍
As an additional note, with combat stims, you can increase your bb damage. Not enough to one pop a crusher, but for sure enough to always two-pop regardless of your skill tree upgrades. I'm pretty sure you can one pop maulers, and for sure armored ragers.
Been having a blast with gunsyker builds using scarlet's grace. That's an undervalued ability due to how difficult it is to use and people not really understanding it's true power. The ability to give yourself a whopping 21% critical chance boost on top of anything else makes you a killing machine like no other. Adding in kinetic flayer and you can take on pretty much anything.
@@mathiasH9108 Not if you are skilled and play properly. I use mostly melee and then ammo efficient guns and psyker abilities (main ability more rarely due to SG).
Had a fun time with this build. I still prefer the deimos mk4 that you recommend previously. I tested out empathic evasion with this and I have to say it was a great addition. When you channel the purg staff you crit very often, and it helps you front lime against gunners when your shield is charging. Thanks for the video!
Very very similar to what I use when I wanna BB, except sometimes I run the wall version of the shield (map dependent) since 2 walls means two ways to get fast Brain Rupture if needed.
I have an illisi now thats like a 370 with shred IV and its such a good sword im just one shotting everything not even powered up. I love the speed of the dueling sword but i really despise the hoard clear and the light attacks feel terrible. This illisi sword tho its the new wave for me now.
Quick question: What’s the best approach for dealing with bosses with this build? You can (1) Pop Shield -> apply brain burst until the reduction time wears off and Empowered stacks deplete, (2) Apply stacks of burn, (3) Apply bleed with the chainsword’s blessing, and (4) decide between spamming standard brain burst, purgatus secondary, or chain sword attacks. I’m been running a fairly similar build on regular Damnation (I’m still working on collecting Blessings 😅), and I never know what order to apply any of these options in or what to focus on. I usually spam brain burst at 95% peril and skip stacks of DOT because I _think_ that provides higher DPS, but I haven’t tested it and I don’t know if I’m missing something in my theory crafting.
nice. im relatively new to the game and this is pretty much the build ive come up with on my own, with a few tweaks here and there. the only thing i cant find and have never seen is the blessing that reduces charge time on secondary attack. dodge on crit is pretty much always up when using the staff
I tried this out in the meat grinder and it seems like kills via Soulblaze don't trigger some of the on-kill effects. For example, if you Purgatus a bunch of elites and then let them die (or if they die to tick damage inbetween your sword/purgatus strikes) it doesn't charge up Empowered Psionics. Feels like I'm getting way fewer EP charges than I should be when I light up a crowd of specials. Anyone have clarity on this? Also as someone newer to Auric Damnation I think I prefer Warp Siphon over Empowered anyhow. It's a nerf to brain burst but the huge boosts to damage and warp resistance, plus the ability to keep a shield up constantly, are really nice. It means using brain burst mostly just for snipers and pulling out my force sword against crushers but seems to work for me. Regardless, great guide. Thanks @RealAsianRobot!
EP is to improve the speed of brain burst. I currently don't stream the game as there is nobody interested in watching (save for 10 to 20) and I can't give up viewership of 100+ on Helldivers 2 rn, but basically when playing this build we used to have a particular technique for it. See if you can find some of my older streams where I played the Purg Psyker and you can see how we did it. I'm hoping for a massive darktide update so I can stream the game in higher quality for everyone 😁👍
Ive been running a very similar build and i just chamged up the skill tree to match this. My question is why take +15 toughness over warp expenditure, is 15 more toughness really that much better than 2.5% regen ever 10% peril?
The build already has a ton of other toughness regen, having a bit more while nice isn't necessary. Having the extra toughness allows you to take more shots or take less damage from a sniper shot or pox burster.
Basically you don't need that much regen, a higher Toughness cap is generally better for survival. It gives you more room to make mistakes, but the choice is yours really.
Not bad, but I preferred the warp siphon version with shriek. I also run dueling sword for ap since the main issue is gonna be armor, but the play style is correct and not enough fire stick wizards use L1 for the stagger.
Shriek is unnecessary, your staff applies soulblaze much more quickly and considering how short ranged you are. The shield compensates for players that are slow to deal with ranged enemies. This is why the random testing is important. I learned quickly that while venting shriek with warp charges is fine (I wrote that build for doing penances btw lol). It loses out in Auric Damnation when randoms cannot handle the ranged enemies or get caught out by multiple gunners at a distance. At this point, the fast BB with a nice big dome shield ups the overall random win-rate by as much as 10 to 15% simply because it compensates for what players may lack. This is the only reason I do not go warp charges.
Imo Kinetic Flayer needs to not be on a 10s timer, and some kind of random B.Burst AOE would be cool too …just a ya know, make it a fun skill to use damnit lol
I refuse to take the force swords off my builds. I felt it before but with the twins I am reinforced in my stance. The damage may not be great but the infinite dodges and if you have it peril block and scream makes it absolutely amazing for survivability. I've 1v1'd demonhost, assassination targets, monstrosities and not lost a wound. Doesn't matter as much if I don't put out that great damage if it's almost impossible to kill me
@@RealAsianRobot Dunno what to say other than I was fighting the teins last night and the dodges kept working fine. Still though, peril instead of stamina on block and having venting shriek feel way more useful IMO
@@C4MG1RL Yeah if you like it. Up to you though, but yeah you only have 5 dodges, same as any other sword. It's in the patch notes lol, this was changed in Patch #14 I believe (2 patches ago). So you get the same utility running any other melee weapon (unless using deflector)
I thought warp siphon was the way to go here... Ive only been playing T4 so maybe I'll realize that +50% BB damags is needed for sniping specials. Maybe if you have a vet you know you can rely on then you take siphon? Also, thoughts on the crit aura?
Been hearing a lot lately that its better to take +25 flak/maniac instead of the 5% crit chance. As you have plenty of crit chance already with the right blessing (i only have tier3) and talent node. Wonder what your opinion is on this? I understamd that from a generalist view, better safe than sorry, but i can understand the point they are trying to make. Also, from what i know, wildfire cannot spread to targets that already has 4 or more stacks of soulblaze, it will take a target up to 4, but cant increase it further, so not entirely sure if its worth it on purg, as you generally have hordes at more than 4 stacks before anything dies. I have not tested this myself tho, and have no idea how i would 😅
Wildfire is correct. It can only take targets up to 4. It shines more when spamming your primary to stagger mixed hordes as those that die first will spread it around. It shines less if spamming the secondary, which you would only do against higher value targets or hordes where you are safely positioned. It can essentially be replaced if you like tbh, but I found that it gives me just a tiny bit more horde clear in the most intense situations, hence why I've kept it. As for the 25 flak/maniac. You can make your own decision on this. Flak would let you burn Maulers faster and several other enemies (including scab ragers) faster. Maniac is more unnecessary as you generally should not be burning muties (stab them instead if running a dueling sword or just chain sword them), so you see most of its use against the Dreg Ragers (which could also be a useful thing). Ultimately it comes down to what you want to bring to the field. If you have enough crit rate. I recommend going Unyielding instead for that sweet sweet boss damage 😏😏.
@@RealAsianRobot thank you for the response ^^ Quick note the on the unyielding, I prefer it on my Deimos instead, soulblaze gains damage from your active weapon, so I usually apply stacks, and then change to melee, with uncanny strike, special attack, stabs, and being able to block. On the flak over maniac, I do get your point, and agree. Usually stab them with Deimos (unyielding+maniac) it usually one shots everything else with a stab to the face already ^^
Strongly disagree with purgatose use Specials: Trapper, flamer, dog sniper use secondary they get stunned instantly by that even slight charge is enough and does better dmg Bomber use 1 primary before secondary he doesnt stagger from secondary fast enough to prevent throws Burster use primary when they start their jump otherwise they will stand back up if they are far enough primary into secondary is a save kill even with minor charge Elites: Ragers depend on how comfortable you are. For small numbers 1 primary into secondary is enough but spam primary into big numbers Maulers if youre really pressed use primary but secondary spam and backwards dodge spam can kill an infinite amount of them Shotgunners just spam primary they will push you out of range a lot if you use secondary Any type of gunner sweep secondary across gunline for supression you dont have to actually hit them you have a longer supression range when youre close enough focus elites minions will run away after supression if you use rapier or something similarly fast you should also learn to flank gunlines by sliding or dash sliding into them for a really easy clear Against bullwarks full charge secondary dodge their hit and blast them if youre able to flank or team is close use primary to open them for allies Against reapers only use secondary slight charge will supress them faster than primary will stun them Hordes: Wildfire is very important here as it will allow you to focus on important targets instead of swiping across the screen to stagger or kill trash 1 swipe then focus is my recommendation Low numbers of trash: Learn the amount of primarys for a guaranteed kill or learn charge amount for guaranteed kill it doesnt matter a lot but i favor secondary so i can have warp flurry stacks if i need them + ttk is slighty faster but more peril intensive
I understand where you're coming from, but I'm going to explain something that is crucial to success for the average player. The reason why primary is better against multiple specials rather than even a short charge secondary is because the primary action allows for a full dodge. The secondary has a channeled dodge. So it is much easier (in a high-speed fire fight) to just spam primary as there is less to think about it. While I am certain your methodologies would work, it would require a higher skill level than necessary. Easy of use is important, which is what I demonstrated on stream 😁👍. I agree on focusing priority targets after burning out the horde, though.
@@RealAsianRobot You call it a high skill build yourself though why not teach optimal use instead of encouraging crutches. The information is already on yt as i learned it from a vid myeself and you can test if it works yourself.
Actually it deals with mixed hordes just fine. Demonstrated on stream lol. But yes, the trauma is good 😁👍. There are always multiple suitable builds out there. Some just don't work for some people
No changes to Purg staff since Patch 16. Currently we are playing Helldivers 2 as content for Darktide has not changed or updated. BRAIN BLAST!
BB #1 as usual
I thought warp siphon was the way to go here...
Ive only been playing T4 so maybe I'll realize that +50% BB damags is needed for sniping specials. Maybe if you have a vet you know you can rely on then you take siphon?
Also, thoughts on the crit aura?
Crit Aura is never taken.
Warp Siphon is equally useless for BB since its biggest problem is how long it takes to cast
Is tis good to use if you're trying to get the penance cosmetics?
No, you need warp charges, so you have to use Warp Siphon. This one is for actually enjoying the game and having a proper build lol
th-cam.com/video/yRoT30CslJM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kQuSBYnC4_id6wnw - This is the one for penances, not as good, but it works
@@RealAsianRobot thank you for the response ^^
Quick note the on the unyielding,
I prefer it on my Deimos instead, soulblaze gains damage from your active weapon, so I usually apply stacks, and then change to melee, with uncanny strike, special attack, stabs, and being able to block.
On the flak over maniac, I do get your point, and agree.
Usually stab them with Deimos (unyielding+maniac) it usually one shots everything else with a stab to the face already ^^
Strongly disagree with purgatose use
Specials:
Trapper, flamer, dog sniper use secondary they get stunned instantly by that even slight charge is enough and does better dmg
Bomber use 1 primary before secondary he doesnt stagger from secondary fast enough to prevent throws
Burster use primary when they start their jump otherwise they will stand back up if they are far enough primary into secondary is a save kill even with minor charge
Elites:
Ragers depend on how comfortable you are. For small numbers 1 primary into secondary is enough but spam primary into big numbers
Maulers if youre really pressed use primary but secondary spam and backwards dodge spam can kill an infinite amount of them
Shotgunners just spam primary they will push you out of range a lot if you use secondary
Any type of gunner sweep secondary across gunline for supression you dont have to actually hit them you have a longer supression range when youre close enough focus elites minions will run away after supression if you use rapier or something similarly fast you should also learn to flank gunlines by sliding or dash sliding into them for a really easy clear
Against bullwarks full charge secondary dodge their hit and blast them if youre able to flank or team is close use primary to open them for allies
Against reapers only use secondary slight charge will supress them faster than primary will stun them
Hordes:
Wildfire is very important here as it will allow you to focus on important targets instead of swiping across the screen to stagger or kill trash 1 swipe then focus is my recommendation
Low numbers of trash: Learn the amount of primarys for a guaranteed kill or learn charge amount for guaranteed kill it doesnt matter a lot but i favor secondary so i can have warp flurry stacks if i need them + ttk is slighty faster but more peril intensive
@@RealAsianRobot
You call it a high skill build yourself though why not teach optimal use instead of encouraging crutches. The information is already on yt as i learned it from a vid myeself and you can test if it works yourself.
Does not deal with mixed hordes well enough. My go to now is the trauma.
Actually it deals with mixed hordes just fine. Demonstrated on stream lol.
But yes, the trauma is good 😁👍. There are always multiple suitable builds out there. Some just don't work for some people
I think you have to have 76% burn to hit 14 burn stacks. Below is max 12 stacks (I think? Not confirmed by me)
It is correct
Update to this build?

Thanks for the super thanks my friend ❤️ your support is very kind
You said it has lower what rate?
Win rate
This is the build you are using to date ? why ? Thank you
No changes to Purg staff since Patch 16.
Currently we are playing Helldivers 2 as content for Darktide has not changed or updated. So literally nothing for me to shoot a video on and no players to even watch the video unfortunately.
Steam is barely 4kish right now 🤷♂️ so yeah, I'll update when there is more players and when the game changes significantly
thanks!@@RealAsianRobot
I don't see the point with rando curios i'd rather have 40% max hp and stam or 40% toughness and stam
Up to you my dude, I like the balance, but if you don't go with whatever you want. Ultimately, this is what we use to achieve the win-rates we have so I just share that :)
I can believe the name with the copy paste picture for every video, a bot for real. aside that at least the actual content is helpful
Wow, someone woke up and decided to be a dick today.
Are you okay?
