    A neighbor of mine has the same truck!, in Megara, Greece!!! It is in mint condition, as it is stored in a warehouse and is used only in the grape collection period, in early autumn in my place. My neighbor's father has replaced the engine with a Mercedes diesel, due to economy and torque that diesels are capable of. It is converted to tipper with a double cylinder system as well, for easy and fast unolading.
    During Military Junda period here in Greece (1967-74), a law was appeared for approximately 10 days, where the cars could be converted from Gasoline to Diesel engines w/o law enforcements. Then most people, due to the oil crisis of that period, forced to convert their cars (lorries at most). As a result, these cars were highly priced due to the Diesel-converted authorization license and low tax costs that a 2-ton truck would offer. Our Chevy C15A was also Diesel-converted with a Perkins engine, single-cylinder Gallion dump system and a heavy duty 5-ton Dodge rear axle...

    That's a very nice looking truck. Glad to see that you kept the stovebolt and didn't stick a V8 in it. Those old 6s moved a lot of weight for many years before the arrival of V8s. Are those 20" wheels? If so, what brand tires, tubes and liners did you use?

    It’s wired up correctly because it went to discharge even more when he pulled on the headlights. Probably generator brushes are down or points in voltage regulator are burnt

    nice truck. how do you tell a 2 ton from a 1-1/2 ton?

    • @johnpublic5169
      @johnpublic5169 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I remember 6100, 6400, & 6500 were 2 ton models & 4100 and 4400 were 1.5 ton models. The different numbers in a weight class designate the difference in wheelbase. My project is a GMC 355-24, which is a 2 ton with 197” wheelbase (longer than anything Chevy offered) and it’s had a FABCO aftermarket stretch to 220” of wheelbase. It had 16’ wooden flatbed that went to the end of the frame on it when I acquired it.

    • @sd31263
      @sd31263 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong, David. Vent windows were used starting with the 1951 model year. They started using push-button door handles in 1952. It's how you distinguish a '52 from a '51. I grew up working on a wheat farm in eastern Washington. They had four GM two-tons: '47 and '48 Chevrolets, and 1950 and 1952 GMCs.

    • @johnpublic5169
      @johnpublic5169 ปีที่แล้ว

      235 cid until the 261 came out in ‘53 or ‘54. The 2 ton had a gross rating of 16,000 lbs. (truck, driver, fuel, & cargo). You’d have to scale the truck empty to get a weight to subtract from that gross weight to know how much cargo capacity you have. Probably could pull a small trailer, but not very fast. These trucks weren’t very fast to begin with & there wasn’t an interstate system like we know it today back then.
