Love the upside app. Been using it since the first time you mentioned it. It pays for my oil changes. Why wouldn't you use it? Its free money
@@silverstreak1001 that app always takes you the most expensive gas station though
Hearing the dink dink dink dink dink dink in the motor again is ear screeching for me I hate it when cars sound like that 😣
Question around fuel. 91 is the stock fuel here in NZ and 95 is "premium" 98 is "High octane" for high end cars (like a pimped out evo.. ^_^). There's also Deisel, LPG and recently Hydrogen but who uses those! (JK)
Is it not the same in the states?
Kevin, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the extra time you take to explain how shit works. I have learned so much since I started watching your vids, things like large reservoir of master cylinder is always disks and other tidbits of pure gold that make trouble shooting much much simpler. Again a huge thanks.
Ditto. I never thought to use carburetor cleaner to start a recalcitrant engine, but it works very well.
I looked up the SDS. Acetone, toluene, and methanol. No wonder it burns.😊
PETITION TO STRAIGHT PIPE THE SPRAYER
i dont know much of these old motors, so its definitely a learning experience when he talks about a lot of the stuff.
Great job! You went 200+ feet farther than I thought you would!
Same😂
Dude, the Baddilac is bad ass! Thanks for taking us on this adventure with you!
28:08 No cage, no suit, no helmet, no harness. Just dad shorts, T-shirt, & sunglasses. Legend.
I bet nobody was expecting one lifted Cadillac to show up, let alone two 😂
If I had a nickel for every Cadillac that showed up to the truck pull, I would have two nickels. Which is strange that it happened more than once
Facts tjo

Can we just acknowledge that the orange bumpside has a huge badass motor WITH A STOCK RADIATOR
Only running for 30 seconds a week 😂
@@JunkyardDigs hey man, you may have already seen it. But I typed another comment asking about the blue Torino you had in the shop a while ago, and I was wondering what happened to it. Obviously it's your choice to answer it or not. But I would love to know what ever became of it.
Flight for that ford make some power
It’s a copper radiator copper actually has a lot better thermal conductivity than aluminum does. It’s just heavy but it’ll keep that thing cool especially if it’s just for the pulls
You know after watching Dalton's channel I now understand why there was no reply to this 🤣
Fantastic, Kevin! Very entertaining. Bummer about Phoenix's car- it sure LOOKED good though.
I do a lot of small engine stuff and have been drilling my own jets for years- mostly because I'm too cheap to just go buy a bunch of 'em. What's fun is when you get a little overzealous and have to solder the jet closed and redrill it smaller.
Thanks for the continually entertaining and informative content!
Awesome part about pulling is making something out of complete junk and beating the crap out of mult thousand dollar rigs.
Dang I just commented something similar about the jets, glad to see someone else knows that old hotrod trick.
Your WI adventure for the car was excellent, I live not far from this site you were at. I recognized the roads.
Also, my brother and I years ago, when he was alive went to MI to the Sand Dunes with his older military Jeep Willys.
In WI you can get special plates ( Hobbyists ) for such a machine.
Big shout out to Kevin thanks this takes me back 50 years I used a whole roll of film on a tractor/truck pull in keliher mn!
The last 50 years have not been good to the Family farm. Anyway thanks.
What a great time. I just came in from cleaning the barn after the 1969 amx was pulled out and I drove it for the first tome in 26 years. 1996 was its last time it drove. Already got most of the damaged wiring repaired that took it off the road.
That is badass!
10.5:1 comp seems pretty high for pump gas on these old motors. My 390FE has 9.5:1 with aftermarket pistons and she still just barely pings on 91 octane under WOT. Thanks to this channel, I was inspired to buy a Pertronix distributor, now I can limit the advance and keep the 20 degrees of initial she wants.
Glad we were able to help you figure it out!!
Love the car, been watching since the old F250 revival keep up the good work man. The old f250 was the reason I got into working on cars and it always amazes me how much more there is to learn from your channel.
Thank you for fixing that exhaust leak!
An FE turning 7k rpm sounds pretty scary. Mine hit around 6k a couple of times and I fully expected to have parts scattering but she held together.
I'd be willing to bet that the old caddie would really benefit from proper gears and a little stall in the convertor. She sounds pretty healthy.
Great video, as usual
That really looked like a lot of fun, how cool it would've been to actually b there.
Great job Kevin, an entertaining thumbs up.
Glad to see you did better than Phoenix at least.👍😂😎
I have to say that I'm proud of how the Monster Caddy did with the sled pull. It might have split a couple of universal joints, but that's just par for the course.
Always helpful to identify the weakest link.
Dude... DUDE... never in my life did I ever imagine wanting that generation of Cadillac... nor one that sits a couple feet in the air. LOVE this thing!
I've really enjoyed this series, not every video can be a1, five star, award-winning content but this one has been a good one, don't beat yourself up. Also I'm glad upside is sponsoring you, I'm an upside user and have almost earned an entire tank of gas over the summer.
Man there were no apologies necessary for this awesome vid. It's actually cool to watch you figure something out on the fly rather than just apply a know fix, and the actual pull vids were well worth allllllll the "trouble." Bad ass, y'all.
I was there to see it! If I had known you were going to run last I would have showed up about 3 hours late instead of sitting through 6 hours of 111° heat index. Seeing the Badillac next to the monster limo makes yours look downright sensible. Great to see you guys
4k quality was definitely what you needed, we can really see all the rust! lol
My husband was the white truck! This was awesome to have you all there!
Kevin & Mook I grew up in Central Illinois and have been to few tractor pulls. I saw some neat stuff, 409 in Minneapolis, Hemi in a Case. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. And nice to the Mookster, too. You guys take care, and check on the corn when you get home. D
Yep, I had class-issues the first time I autocrossed. Basically a factory '88 5.0 with disc brakes, axles and wheels from a '95 Cobra - which threw me right into the "Modified" class with tube-chassis, race-day-only, track monsters. It's was the most fun I ever had, getting my ass handed to me.
😎 Almost as much fun as the farming episodes! What's a couple of U-joints between friends, right? YOU WON!
Thanks for the fun content.
If I would have seen your video of the caddy I would have been able to fix my F150 460 had the same issues A++ Thanks for teaching me diagnostic skills I didn’t learn in class.
Good job! Still pinging pretty bad though, I think you need to look into recurving your distributor, I have a similar setup and had to do that to get rid of my ping.
What did you have to limit your total to
@@JunkyardDigs Around 20 degrees total.
This brings back frustrating memories! Those shiny chrome double-filler fuel lines are crap - so many of them leaked on me that I don't even bother with them any more. Anything I work on gets a simple T fitting and that gets plumbed to each bowl.
6:48 seeing TDC at TDC and knowing the engine has been built up some, I would think maybe they installed a timing set with different cam timing. 68-71 timing sets are timed differently from 72+ sets for emissions (later EFI 460 are different as well) So it's possible when this engine was built that if they went to the trouble to do performance ignition and forged pistons they probably also went with a straight up timing set.
Excellent video Junkyard Digs Kevin :) also if going 89 or higher octane gas with that 460 motor bored up 0.30 over use 10w30 no synthetic engine oil of Pennezoil or Vavleoline, Fram Oil 2x times with Grip gaurd , Fram Air , Fram PCV Valve , Fram Fuel Filter & Grey Bottle of STP Total Treatment fuel injection and carb cleaner in fuel tank each time too because eats up Ethonal in fuels ! Also Spark plugs use Platinum Plus not long threads too , High Suppression wires to from Distributor Cap plus Coil to more clean spark also fire plus on cold and hot starts ! Do all this and get little ping at Cold start and in 3 mins high idle come low idle fast to and hot start after no pings! If do still get ping on when Park or Netural bit but in Reverse plus Foward gears not got set Intake and outake on need adjustment like tight up! Hopefully this help Kevin and don't use cheaper price gas to use great quality gas always too !
Yet another JYD masterpiece with a slight disasterpiece! Love your work! Keep it up!
At the end when you spit the CV joint into the ditch, I just thought, that's so Iowa. Ah, the memories.
Finally the mook star of the show 👍🇺🇸🍺
I had a 1987 6-door Cadillac, not as big as his 1984, but still fun. People were amazed. "Is that a limousine?" "What is that?" It was a nice, low-mileage car. Most funeral cars are.
That looks like so much fun! I was starting to think Mook was kidnapped or something.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! YOU FOR IT ALL WRONG WITH ME!!!! I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE LOVEEEEEE THE LOUDNESS OF A ENGINE JUST POURING OUT ALL ITS H.P. LIKE THAT AND HOW LOUD THEY ARE JUST SCREAMING FREE DOWN THE TRACK!!!! JUST SAYIN!!!! THANKS, F.M.V.
From the previous episodes of hearing this thing running, I had a feeling that the compression had been upped a bit.
It's a healthy motor for sure.
WOW, great dedication on the 4x4 Cadillac !! 👊BTW those chrome fuel lines are junk!!
Amen to that!
kevin i know the sponsored videos are important to funding the channel, but is there anyway to keep them under 2 minutes. It gets long winded and i just fast fwd through them since they are like 5 minutes long! You can get all the info you need to out in under a minute and more ppl will listen to them. time is the one thing that we can’t get back and a lot of time i watch your videos on lunch breaks and i don’t wanna watch 5 minutes of more commercials!
That was a good pull . 👌 I didn't think you would make it that far in it. But , no problem being all over, it kept it interesting. Thanks again for bringing us along. Kevin and Mook have a great weekend 👋
That did really good! Should do more work to it and make it a badass puller! How many Cadillacs do you see pulling at truck pulls? Haha 😂
Kevin, great video! Loved watching the pulls and cracked up when you lost the CV joint connection. Great job on the vids man!
The Battillac lookin' spiff as always.
I never have been to a truck pull, BUT i have been to a tractor pull and that shits really fun
Notification Squad! it is badass that you took this thing to a truck pull. I was just at one the other night. My dad used to have a 78 Ford F250 pulling truck with a 514. So they are a big part of my childhood and I like going to them every once in awhile. You did have a surprisingly decent hook
Sooooo.... in an ironic twist of fate, the second TH-cam commercial was a social justice ad against cutting down old growth trees in British Columbia. Hit skip and was back just in time to see that green beast puking out diesel smoke all the way down the track...
Right on. Stoked on this one. I hope you folks are keeping cool out there. This heat is killing me down here. 🤙🏾
Bravo, loved the whole Heath Robinson effect (thrown together at the last minute). Well done. Congrats from the UK.
What pliers do you carry in your holster?
Your buddy is always smiling and having fun, seems like a positive great dude
Buddy of mine had a 460 we were swapping into a late 70's Bronco, the engine had sat in a corner in a garage on an engine stand for so long the poor little engine stand had somewhat bent from the weight. We got the engine running on the floor, timing was way too far advance, we couldn't get the distributor out with it on the ground, we were just moving a 460 around trying. We ended up bolting the engine to a random Ford F series frame he had out back that originally had a big block, and still had to fight that bastard to come loose. These distributors can be a nightmare if they really stick.
Love what you're doing and appreciated the knowledge. I had an old truck with 10.37 compression and I had to run premium fuel. Did not even like a mix. I would drain your tank and get rid of all the new gas/old gas its mix. I want to say I was running 32 degrees timing.
Since the original f250 is a bit beaten up, missing the windows etc, and the engine is missing a freeze plug, I feel like it would make a pretty good candidate for a pulling truck if you dropped in a nice big engine
I never thought id stop to comment about the ad, but here we go. I have a company Diesel F550 that I use for work, and a company credit card for supplies and fuel. I added the company card to my Upside profile and use Upside almost every day to buy about 35-38 gallons of diesel, depending on how close I want to run it to empty. I make about $6 per day using Upside(depending on how much I drive). Which doesn't sound like a lot, but in 20 working days I've made nearly $100.
I had a 86 Chevrolet with a 305 and 600 cfm edelbrock. It would ping really bad with 87 octane. I had to run 93 in it and it would still ping a little in 4th gear when you put a little strain on the engine. I thought it was a valve issue and figured it was just a tired old motor. It’s nice to see you work through the process of fixing the problem.
14:56 best part of this whole video, followed up by "Oh. And I can't hear you, so... *Starts drilling*"😂😂😂
Awesome Job, Glad the carb is still working for ya. Love watching this car so do the kids.
I can't believe I have gone teary eyed over this Truck/Badallac Pull, but my cheeks suggest otherwise. Good times guys and gals, thanks for letting us out here come along.
When I was about 8-9 years old in the late 70s, we lived in a little town in central Iowa (maybe 300 people) for a couple years. They would have tractor pulls during the 4th of July festivities and all the local farmers would bring their best tractor to duke it out. It was awesome 😆 🤣
Cool vid and excellent time at the pull..... You'll need higher octane and less timing to stop that pinging, it's detonating pretty bad... Old 4v FE's were 10:5:1 from the factory... Some better gas should fix you up... if it's still doing it, back out a few degrees of advance and possibly throw in a set of "colder" plugs.. It helps when building higher compression engines to soften sharp edges in the combustion chamber and make sure theres no carbon buildup... They can provide an ignition source for that bad gas... Took me years back in the day to figure it out... Love that old franken car..
Makes me want to move to Iowa!!! You guys know how to have fun!!! Can’t believe you pulled the weight that far 😳wow! Sucks Phoenix couldn’t get it down the track, always next year!😁👍
Nice video. I live in a small town in wisconsin. During our town festival every year they do truck and tractor pulls down one of the streets.
Very neat seeing the truck pull. Sorry the U-Joint went out. But you made a pull for sure. Thank you for sharing
Sir you have brought back some great memories from my younger day's, we had truck and tractor pulls for many years in my little town of grants pass Oregon and monster trucks thrown in for the end of the pulls my favorite was a local long time log truck hauler named R.B Slagle that had a 4wd dark green metallic 60's gmc flat bed named the Phoenix with one hell of a diesel in it, thanks for the memories
Now THAT was COOL! Mate, I see a future in that beast attending more events like that! I've never been to a Tractor Pull - you'd think with a nation that makes most of its GDP and export income from farming that it would be a thing, but no. Gumboot tossing, yes, horsepower, not so much. So sad.... Anyway, commiserations on the UJ, but that's a minor set back. That engine held in there - pinking like mad, but she held and did over 200 feet! That's win in my book for the old girl. I bet the mice in Phoenix's rig were sweating bricks - maybe a few of them sacrificed themselves to block the exhaust pipe and cause it to stumble....? Who knows - hope he gets it sussed for the next one though. Both your engines sounded epic.....and for ref, I didn't adjust the sound and was wearing headphones for the first pull. What a GLORIOUS sound! Had to turn the volume UP from then on to get the same thrill from the rest! A great watch, my friend. Kudos for the effort put in to make it happen. All the best
When it comes to truck pulling, my uncle has run red RTV as a header gasket for almost 10 years. Our engine builder actually tells us to run red RTV and it works wonderfully. Mind you this is a 505 cubic inch built big block ford.
I love farm tractor pulling myself with my Farmall 400 and 350. The energy is amazing, and the people awesome. Good try to your first run. It took us a number of tries to get ourselves down the track the first few times. Keep dialing it in and kick some ass!
Thanks Kevin that was a really fun video to watch thanks for explaining the ping issue wasn't sure where u were going next when everything was where it should be
Kevin, you do a great job troubleshooting! It’s the best part of the show to find practical solutions to common and uncommon problems.
this was your best episode yet. I love truck pulls and tractor pulls and it was great to see the battleac go.
Great video! ...I miss Ms. Mook's videos!
Went to a tractor pull event once.
Besides the normal ones, that blackend the sun with diesel exhaust. There where crazy things like Twin Turboshaft T53-L-11 Turbines out of a Bell UH1-D and a 18 Zylinder radial engine from some WW2 Bomber. One of those two not only pulled the sled down the track but also almost up and over a hill at the end that's sole purpose was to stop them for sure.
Best day in the life of a young little boy.
Now that I'm an adult i think i should go see one of those again.
Try octane booster or see if you can get some avgas mixed with pump gas...needs a high stall converter and consult local driveshaft peeps...good show man !
Truck pullin is strong frame, bullet proof engine and transmission, axles and gear sets and non destructive driveline. Great first effort Kevin! AL B.
The Baddilac deserves a second chance for glory. And I am so excited to see it. Blow the motor or keep trying till you do.
About the videos sponsor... I heard about "Upside" on the radio alot and never belived it but how u explained it has me intrigued
Fun! Thanks for taking us along
Here at Murray Bridge they have double and triple V8's also one tractor had jet engine, but lifted the front wheels couple of times broke the front axle, great try, better luck next time, all the best to yous and your loved ones
That upside probably works pretty well. We truck drivers have had something similar called mud flap. Gas stations give cheap fuel basically for the price of advertising
awesome video!! that thing pulled like a freight train till that u joint went. hope to see more of this thing!
Hi Kevin, congratulations from France ,well done !
Congratulations Kevin :) also not first time seeing driveshaft twist and snap off both but still hook one again it was full size GM van 12 seater from 1984 year 2 wheel drive one !
I for sure thought it was going to catch fire on the way to the truck pull 🤣 😂. That Teflon tape was mint by the way. Not gonna lie, I had ear buds in and left my volume up so I could here all those ponies let lose 😂.
They're all great vids brother..
AHHHHHHG, can ya hear me now. Lol
Peace and great success.
You and Mook are still nuts!!🤪
CV joint thingy = double cardan joint. It was a great episode by the way. I enjoyed it immensely.
Timing changes with higher compression and cam changes, research how to adjust timing with a vacuum guage. It makes a big diff. With high compression you need more fuel to cool the cylinders
I like how Kevin ads subtle shots against Chevy lol. Like “at least the distributor is in the front so i can deal with it”. Meanwhile as a chev guy i have never once in my life heard of a seized dizzy hahaha.
This was your best video I’ve seen yet. I’ve been watchin you for a couple months now and this one was just so fun and entertaining. I used to do truck pulling with my diesel and it was pretty fun but I got burnt out with it, it’s a lot of work for little return but if you just do it once in awhile and just have fun with it not taking it too serious it is a total blast. You’ve made me wanna get sumthin to pull for next year cause this just looked so fun
Tractor pulls are awesome! They used to do one every year back home. Haven't been to one in years.
Truck pulling is my hobby. And that bump side those are "street altered" truck they still have to run exhaust to behind the cab. The white Ford n such run a slipper clutch. They are ment for pulling so you can walk off the line without loading up the driveline to hard. Essentially a slipper is two metal disks with a small amount of material. They get hot fast but are designed for it. At night they'll throw sparks Love it. Just awesome
IDK if you're into it or not, if if you are into it you really need to get into one of Cleetus's race events man! I think you fit right in with them boys, and girls, so you would have a blast and everyone is going to love watching you do it!
That was epic. She did better than I thought she was going to. Totally enjoyed that. Great video. Keep On Motoring Brother!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great episode! Truck/Tractor pulls are the best!
Thay was really entertaining! Love to find out what was causing the spark knock.
Excellent work as always, you folks should build a dedicated pulling truck. My favs are the diesel pullers. I noticed right away a huge jump in camera quality.
I just finished up fuel lines and brakes for my 1957 ford fairlane 500 4 door sedan. Almost ready for yard driving!
I have always loved truck and tractor pulls 😝 the stock trucks are always the best show, the guys coming out Friday night to beat on their work truck or daily driver always bring the party
I read a forum post a while back where a guy had a stuck dizzy in a 351. He wrapped a chain around it and lifted the whole front of the truck off the ground with the engine hoist, then left it there until it let go.
About the pinging, you either need to reduce the advance a bit or you need higher octane fuel. Try reducing the advance 2° at a time. See if you can buy some fuel from racetrack or an airport.
Another solution is to drive at a higher altitude.
