    They gave all the other Penn spinning reels a nice round power handle but not the spinfishers. Even the all plastic Persuit IV reels have power handles. It's the main reason the Battle 3 reels are doing so well, they feel much nicer and easier to wind than the Spinfisher reels. Almost everyone I know with spinfishers replace the handles.

    Would this spinfinder be ok for rockfishing 350 ft deep and also big tuna, yellowtail, bonito, etc?

    • @tunanorth
      @tunanorth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Something like the 7500 size would be just fine for yellowtail, and school size tuna. Exactly what are considered "big tuna" varies widely. For typical Southern California party boat use, spinning reels are less practical once the tuna re over 50 pounds, and anything over 100 pounds in that environment is virtually impossible. For the better-grade tuna, consider the Fathom series, with the FTH40NLD2 being a top choice. For "rock codding", spinning reels are not appropriate, but check out the new technique called "Slow Pitch Jigging", which works great for rockfish/lingcod with spinning gear.

      Hi Mika,
      Have a look at our latest version in the Carnage series of spinning rods. The new Carnage III spinning rods are available in specific models for: surf, inshore, boat jigging, boat casting and slow pitch techniques. Have a look at our website and consider the boat spinning or inshore spinning rods.

    Can someone explain the differences of the sub series? what does live liner and all that mean

    • @tunanorth
      @tunanorth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Live Liner means you can cast your bait out, then have what amounts to "free spool" like with a conventional reel. This lets the fish swallow the bait, and you can then engage the drag and set the hook normally.

      Biggest difference is that the VI series has the C-n-C machined gears, which are only available on the V series as a $75 upgrade. the VI's also have IPX5 sealing, and are 2-3 ounces lighter than the V's depending on size.

      @tunanorth 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      VanStaals are very nice reels, but being at a much higher $500-$900 price point, are apples-oranges to the new SSVI series. At the SSVI's price of $139-$249, PENN is putting as many high-performance features as possible at a price any angler can afford. The spinning reel series in PENN's lineup that aligns with VS is the Torque II. If price is not too important, the Torque II's are phenomenal reels.

    You need to address the problem with poor gear mesh not the CNC BS to sell stuff.
    CNC has been around for years.
    As for the comments on USA made on some reels that is sort of misleading too because you say it is made from foreign/imported and domestic parts but wont say what parts are US made and what parts aren't.
    They are assembled in the US that is all.
    Why would I pay that kind of money to have a reel assembled in the USA from parts made in China?
    Last but not least putting braided line on a reel size that was originally sized for lighter weight mono and cranking the drag down all the way is going to strip out any gear set regardless of what you do if you crank on it instead of letting the fish run.
    Besides all of that I love Penn reels and have about 8 of them.

    • @tunanorth
      @tunanorth 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the USA models, all parts that are "reel parts" such as gears, sideplates, handles, etc are US-made. Parts that are "standardized machine parts" such as screws, springs, ball bearings are purchased from industrial suppliers, and may have origins in a variety of places. The CnC gears are a substantial upgrade in this series [true that the Slammer III and Torque II series already had it]. Many anglers previously paid $65-$75 for the upgraded gears as an "add-on" to the previous Spinfisher V series.

      Available in 9 sizes; from a 2500 to a 10500 size. True that the 9500 and 10500 size are beasts- but that is necessary for those anglers who may need up to 670 yards of 65 pound line. If you don't need that much line, then one of the smaller/lighter sizes still has all of the same features.

  • @slipngrip

    you US penn fanboys should remember that this is a reel made in china by a company owned by a chinese conglomerate. penn's quality is just plain disappointing compared to shimano or daiwa.

    • @tunanorth
      @tunanorth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Chinese conglomerate? Incorrect. PENN also has the USA-made Torque II series spinning reels, along with the US-made "Z" series spinning reels, which are the lowest priced US-made reels offered by ANY manufacturer. With the Japanese manufacturers, the "threshold" for "made in Japan" is $400-$600 retail, and reels below that point are also made in China, Malayasia, Viet Nam, etc.

    • @RikkiTikkiTavi290
      @RikkiTikkiTavi290 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that like 3-8 years ago PENN's quality was pretty awful for several things, but since then they have stepped it up. Also, my all time favorite reel the Torque 1 spinners, were from that era and I have next to zero complaints about them. Not a fan of the Torque II's and Penn will never be as smooth or "sophisticated" as the over priced Asian reels, but can't beat their toughness. I could beat someone unconscious with my Torque I and then still catch a giant fish right afterwards, thing is built like a tank.

      hell, I would rather fish handline than fish the Z. tens of ounces lighter, saltwater resistance beyond compare, and better line lay. the only thing the Z does better than my bare hands is cracking walnuts when i get hungry on the shore

      You are correct, the Z is old tech, but the users love them, and they are nearly impossible to kill. However, Your original point was "made in China", which applies to virtually every spinning reel out there that is under $500, and in fact applies to a number of spinning reels over $500. The reels in the above vid start at $139.95. You also stated that the co. is owned by a "Chinese Conglomerate" which is also incorrect.

      "impossible to kill?" In Alan Hawk's review, all it took to maul his SSV 8500 was a tiny mashed pinion. Let's face it, the only "tough" Penns reels are those made in USA. All the rest are borderline garbage compared to Shimmies and Daiwas.
