The studio version has a lovely longer piece of singing from Nate. That ending gives me goosebumps, no matter how many times I listen to it. I highly recommend you find it and listen to it in your own free time. No point reacting to it again, but not taking in that ending would be a mistake. Trust me.

I am a huge Eminem fan. We are the same age, so the levels of his maturity went right along with me. When he was young and angry, so was I. When he grew a little and wanted to show the world he did better than he should have, I was there. And when I had kids and baby mama drama, and just wanted to be a father, he put out revival. It's almost like the soundtrack to my life.

Yes. I'm sick and I realize my mother was sick and I forgive her for beating the shit out of me constantly until I was 16 and fought back and taught her I was finally bigger than her. However, I've been no contact since I was 32 because the woman refuses to get help and said unforgivable things to me about myself and her own grandchildren, who were still babies. She's a horrible woman. Toxic, narcissistic, and just plain mean. She couldn't touch me anymore so she increased the mental and emotional abuse. Sad part is, the same exact thing happened between her and her mother when I was 5, until my mother reached out when I was a teenager. My abuela wouldn't apologize. I know my mother won't apologize either, so she may as well be dead to me. I'm not speaking to her again, not ever again, until she apologizes and gets help. I'm 38 and just too old for her narcissistic abuse, and I won't expose my own kids to it, either. With that said, I do still miss my mother and wish she'd just apologize and get help. My parents got divorced when I was 19/20 and especially since Daddy died this past July, I've had moments where I just wanna talk to the mother that she used to be before she went crazy. I just miss her, but I know that that woman is dead.
This song really has touched me, as I have a similar relationship with my parents and they don't know my kids either. But it has given me peace, especially as I've grown up and had my own children, to realize how broken my parents were and how toxic they are as people. I also did my best to be 'the man of the house' for my younger siblings. This song really resonates with me. Em really has matured a lot.
Brother I know exactly what you mean. My parent chose alcohol over the kids, so need up in the orphanage. For the longest I had nothing but hate for them both. Without realizing that hate was dragging me down. Until one day I accepted the past and forgave them, now I am at peace with it all. Unfortunately the thing they chose over their kids ended up killing them both in their early 40s.
It resonates with me, too, but I'm still full No Contact with my mother after the worst shit you can imagine came out of her mouth 6 years ago in regards to her grandchildren. Especially her mentally disabled grandson. She said crazy things. Insane things. My last words to her were "Don't ever call me, email me, text me again, not anything. I'd call you a cunt but you lack the depth and the warmth." Then I hung up on her. It hurt. It hurt so so badly, but to rid myself of her narcissistic, abusive, negative mentality has been worth every moment. And yes; I realize she needs help. However, she refused to seek help for her textbook bipolar, PTSD as a result of generational abuse (we're Native American), and clinical depression. She has only to call or text or write a letter apologizing and saying she's sought help. Then I'll tentative let her back into my life. Very tentatively. I'm not one that trusts anyone a second time after they've broken it the first time.

The meaning of the title comes from the idea that he and his mom are like two headlights. Parallel to each other, heading in the same direction but won’t cross paths as they drive on. He apologises and forgives her but knows that they won’t be able fully rebuild their relationship and he says “Ill always love you from afar”
Eminem’s dad actually sent him a letter after he saw him perform on TV (addressed to Eminem, not Marshall by the way, keep that in mind) and told him that he didn’t actually leave on his own accord, he just went to work as normal, and when he returned home, the mother (Debby) had moved away and taken Eminem with her. It is said that for artists to remain relevent they need to keep growing with their audience. I think a lot of artists take this to mean musically which is why they don't quite make the grade... Eminem has actually grown up, actively worked through his anger/sadness/struggles and shared them with his audience (many who either lived parallel lives or could just relate with their own issues and trying to overcome them) and actually GROWN with his audience- all while being an extremely gifted writer and master of word play. The part where he says maybe his dad had trouble with keeping up with every address is Eminem saying that’s just an excuse to not find him, in an interview he once said , if Haley ever moved to the edge of the earth, he would still find her cause he would never give up, just a cool thing to hear , I have two daughters myself and I feel the same exact way. Learning Eminem's life story made me a fan for life. Down to substance abuse, the bullying and the volatile relationship with his mother. My "mother" and I had about the same relationship simply because I looked like my father who left and died, but she passed away by her own doing and I couldn't shed a tear. I recovered and had my kids and changed my outlook but before she passed, as my 1st son was being born, she said it was a shame I was bringing another me into this world. Holding my son, my anger turned to sadness because there is NOTHING, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that child could do to make me say anything close like that or feel anything but love for my child. My life flashed before me and I just felt sorry for her and wasn't angry anymore and happy she found peace because it was obvious she had her own demons.
the thing i like about your reactions Chris is you get the sentiment but you hild to it. you look passed one point of the songs and incorporate the other aswell. Thats the whole point of eminem. and in order to "get" eminem to the fullest you have to look past the stereotypes of rap and listen and peice together his lyrics, as well as understanding the context and looking at it in different ways. And you do it so subtly and well in your videos without focusing and doing an essay on it, this makes your videos extremely watchable - and believe me i get bored quickly
I think you can attribute the healthy attitude to not just the perspective of a matured father but also a sober one, he finally got his priorities straight and realized how poisonous that resentment had become. i have a similar relationship with my mom and i remember hearing this song in the car for the first time and having to actually pull over and cry it out. coincidentally enough, my mom was the one who showed me marshall in the first place when i was little. his growth is inspirational.

Thank you for this. It’s great to see someone “get” tracks like these. It’s really helpful to lots of people to be able to see an example of what healing generational trauma looks like. Forgiveness of her and himself sets him free, and it doesn’t mean that he is letting her back in, just accepting what happened and who she is. I love the like “foster care, that cross you bear, few may be as heavy as yours”. Acknowledging that she probably has some pain over the situation and she has to live with it. I have been estranged from my mom since I was a child, and this track really helped to lead me to a place of healing because it made me think about the situation differently and from different perspectives. I’m sure others will say this, but “Leaving Heaven” has a verse about his father, who recently died, and how he felt about it. When he first got famous, his dad’s two other children tried to reach out to him and his father did some interviews and held up Marshall’s baby pictures. His kids didn’t even know their father had another child. So, the man wrote in to newspapers asking for Marshall to contact him, that he’s sorry, etc. but then said that he had a serious illness and couldn’t afford life saving medical treatment etc. that had to hurt to think the man was hoping to get some money right after his mom sued him.
I appreciate you going through his catalog with an open mind. I'm not alone in saying this, but this man's music is what got me through some of the most difficult times in my life.

It's amazing to see him as a young man who was admittedly reckless and on drugs and had so much rage when he made cleaning out my closet to an older healthier and sober man able to let go of that rage and understand that his mom went through things as well and her actions could have been because she didn't have a healthy way of dealing with things and actually did her best regardless

I’m 27 and have grown up listening to Eminem pretty much my entire life and over the years I’ve slowly started to understand what it is I was singing/rapping along to, but I really appreciate your videos Chris because it’s almost as though I’m experiencing some of these moments for the first time with you and watching your pure reactions and seeing you ‘get Em’ and his otherworldly wordsmithery and storytelling has truly been a beautiful thing I didn’t even know I didn’t know I needed!

Linkin Park would be a good way for him to dip his toes into heavier music. They're a good gateway band to aggressive vocals because they're not too heavy and they incorporate clean vocals along with hip-hop and then they sprinkle in the harsh vocals. Chester had great fry screams, which really helped convey the emotion in their music.

Linkin Park was my childhood and this would be the closest I could get to reliving them :( On another note, while Kendrick Lamar might not be as relatable, his lyricism is near unparalleled. Not sure how relatable he would be though. Like I had mentioned in another comment, KL's lyricism is near unparalleled and he also has an insane portfolio like em (TPAB, GKMC imo). However, I would argue that while his songs are great, the right way to appreciate KL would be to listen through the entire album. Each plays out like a story and the collective narrative is what defines Kendrick's genius.

He is burying the feud with his mother and when you clean out your closet, you are cleaning out all the negative shit in your life. And the whole situation with his mom is done and he's not going to rap about it anymore. And to be honest, I'm glad. Like he says, "I'm sorry momma, I never meant to hurt you, I never meant to make you cry, but tonight, I'm cleanin' out my closet." He never meant to hurt her with his words, but he's saying he's sorry and that he's done with the whole situation once and for all. Him digging a grave is him burying his past, burying this feud and just saying goodbye to the negativity. Videos are made to sometimes make you think. Filling a grave up metaphorically means that he is burying his past. It doesn't mean there is an actually body in there. Listen to the words, then watch the video. It's the visual representation of the words.
I cry every time I watch the video and or hear the song. Watching him grow into this man who is learning to let go of some of that anger, hurt, disappointment, betrayal and abandonment is very moving and emotional for me. Loved watching you react.

With that said, I do still miss my mother and wish she'd just apologize and get help. My parents got divorced when I was 19/20 and especially since Daddy died this past July, I've had moments where I just wanna talk to the mother that she used to be before she went crazy. I just miss her, but I know that that woman is dead.

This song really has touched me, as I have a similar relationship with my parents and they don't know my kids either. But it has given me peace, especially as I've grown up and had my own children, to realize how broken my parents were and how toxic they are as people. I also did my best to be 'the man of the house' for my younger siblings. This song really resonates with me. Em really has matured a lot.
Brother I know exactly what you mean. My parent chose alcohol over the kids, so need up in the orphanage. For the longest I had nothing but hate for them both. Without realizing that hate was dragging me down. Until one day I accepted the past and forgave them, now I am at peace with it all. Unfortunately the thing they chose over their kids ended up killing them both in their early 40s.
It resonates with me, too, but I'm still full No Contact with my mother after the worst shit you can imagine came out of her mouth 6 years ago in regards to her grandchildren. Especially her mentally disabled grandson. She said crazy things. Insane things. My last words to her were "Don't ever call me, email me, text me again, not anything. I'd call you a cunt but you lack the depth and the warmth." Then I hung up on her. It hurt. It hurt so so badly, but to rid myself of her narcissistic, abusive, negative mentality has been worth every moment.
And yes; I realize she needs help. However, she refused to seek help for her textbook bipolar, PTSD as a result of generational abuse (we're Native American), and clinical depression. She has only to call or text or write a letter apologizing and saying she's sought help. Then I'll tentative let her back into my life. Very tentatively. I'm not one that trusts anyone a second time after they've broken it the first time.
rock bottom is a super emotional song, he wrote it when he was in a super dark spot and when he recorded the original version of the song (both of which you can find on youtube, for the original just search original) he attempted to take his life

I cannot overstate how gratifying it is every time someone discovers Eminem's music. It's challenging to the soul and to the mind, but it's cathartic and profoundly beautiful, too. He has this ability to create music that makes us turn inward and relive our own pain through intimate and visceral portrayal of his own. He's said and done things that I don't agree with more than once, but all of that is completely eclipsed by the fact that I know him through his art to be a fine human being, not beyond reproach, but never beyond redemption. All of us have that inside us, and he allows us to access it through his music. As you say sir, a "Rembrandt". He is among the greatest artists ever to walk this earth.

The meaning of the title comes from the idea that he and his mom are like two headlights. Parallel to each other, heading in the same direction but won’t cross paths as they drive on. He apologises and forgives her but knows that they won’t be able fully rebuild their relationship and he says “Ill always love you from afar”
Eminem’s dad actually sent him a letter after he saw him perform on TV (addressed to Eminem, not Marshall by the way, keep that in mind) and told him that he didn’t actually leave on his own accord, he just went to work as normal, and when he returned home, the mother (Debby) had moved away and taken Eminem with her. Apparently he now has a new family and children with a different woman. You can find the letter online. What Em says in this song about his father «apparently having trouble keeping up with every address», is a reference to that letter and him «not being able» to track Debby and Em back down after they left, while Em is saying he would have turned the world upside down looking for his own children if they were taken away from him. The father offered to meet back up with Em, but Eminem never went through with it, and then his father recently died without ever getting the chance to see his son again. Great reaction as always :)

A hard song for me. My mum passed suddenly at the end of last year age just 47. I learnt she wasn't a bad mum as such just very sick. I wish there could have been a chance to at least try and fix things. Like Em said she was still beautiful because she was my mum 💔

It is said that for artists to remain relevent they need to keep growing with their audience. I think a lot of artists take this to mean musically which is why they don't quite make the grade... Eminem has actually grown up, actively worked through his anger/sadness/struggles and shared them with his audience (many who either lived parallel lives or could just relate with their own issues and trying to overcome them) and actually GROWN with his audience- all while being an extremely gifted writer and master of word play. Sometimes I think it must sound like I'm kissing some Eminem a$$, but I really am just stating facts! 🤣🤣🤣

Learning Eminem's life story made me a fan for life. Down to substance abuse, the bullying and the volatile relationship with his mother. My "mother" and I had about the same relationship simply because I looked like my father who left and died, but she passed away by her own doing and I couldn't shed a tear. I recovered and had my kids and changed my outlook but before she passed, as my 1st son was being born, she said it was a shame I was bringing another me into this world. Holding my son, my anger turned to sadness because there is NOTHING, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that child could do to make me say anything close like that or feel anything but love for my child. My life flashed before me and I just felt sorry for her and wasn't angry anymore and happy she found peace because it was obvious she had her own demons.
the thing i like about your reactions Chris is you get the sentiment but you hild to it. you look passed one point of the songs and incorporate the other aswell. Thats the whole point of eminem. and in order to "get" eminem to the fullest you have to look past the stereotypes of rap and listen and peice together his lyrics, as well as understanding the context and looking at it in different ways. And you do it so subtly and well in your videos without focusing and doing an essay on it, this makes your videos extremely watchable - and believe me i get bored quickly
I think you can attribute the healthy attitude to not just the perspective of a matured father but also a sober one, he finally got his priorities straight and realized how poisonous that resentment had become. He's still going to hold on to some of that anger, especially towards his father, up next: Leaving Heaven.

I've been listening to eminem for over half my life and I love watching your reaction videos. I'd recommend the song "Leaving Heaven" which is about his father.
Why do you have to do this to me? You made me realize that I too, have been listening to Eminem for over half my life and it's a hard pill to swallow. Started when I was in school and now I have a job and one of the things that remained constant was Eminem.

At a younger age listening to old Eminem and now listening to some of the newer songs now... This is the perfect example of the evolution of songs and true artist that Eminem is. He will forever be the Greatest to me.
Thank you for this. It’s great to see someone “get” tracks like these. It’s really helpful to lots of people to be able to see an example of what healing generational trauma looks like. Forgiveness of her and himself sets him free, and it doesn’t mean that he is letting her back in, just accepting what happened and who she is. I love the like “foster care, that cross you bear, few may be as heavy as yours”. Acknowledging that she probably has some pain over the situation and she has to live with it. I have been estranged from my mom since I was a child, and this track really helped to lead me to a place of healing because it made me think about the situation differently and from different perspectives.
I’m sure others will say this, but “Leaving Heaven” has a verse about his father, who recently died, and how he felt about it. When he first got famous, his dad’s two other children tried to reach out to him and his father did some interviews and held up Marshall’s baby pictures. His kids didn’t even know their father had another child. So, the man wrote in to newspapers asking for Marshall to contact him, that he’s sorry, etc. but then said that he had a serious illness and couldn’t afford life saving medical treatment etc. that had to hurt to think the man was hoping to get some money right after his mom sued him.
I appreciate you going through his catalog with an open mind. I'm not alone in saying this, but this man's music is what got me through some of the most difficult times in my life.

It's amazing to see him as a young man who was admittedly reckless and on drugs and had so much rage when he made cleaning out my closet to an older healthier and sober man able to let go of that rage and understand that his mom went through things as well and her actions could have been because she didn't have a healthy way of dealing with things and actually did her best regardless
Better late than never, stay on this Em train, you won't regret it. I will say, not all songs will be to your liking but, just take time to admire the lyrics, double entendres etc.. and you'll see him for the genius he is!

I really would love to see your take on certain Linkin Park songs, culminating in Mike Shinoda’s solo project after things all went down.
Linkin Park would be a good way for him to dip his toes into heavier music. They're a good gateway band to aggressive vocals because they're not too heavy and they incorporate clean vocals along with hip-hop and then they sprinkle in the harsh vocals. Chester had great fry screams, which really helped convey the emotion in their music.

Not sure how relatable he would be though. Like I had mentioned in another comment, KL's lyricism is near unparalleled and he also has an insane portfolio like em (TPAB, GKMC imo).
However, I would argue that while his songs are great, the right way to appreciate KL would be to listen through the entire album. Each plays out like a story and the collective narrative is what defines Kendrick's genius.
If you want to hear Eminem singing, I recommend Hailie’s Song. It’s nothing ground breaking in terms of singing as hes a rapper obviously but it is another really heartfelt song and has quite a nice catchy hook with it

He never meant to hurt her with his words, but he's saying he's sorry and that he's done with the whole situation once and for all. Him digging a grave is him burying his past, burying this feud and just saying goodbye to the negativity. Videos are made to sometimes make you think. Filling a grave up metaphorically means that he is burying his past. It doesn't mean there is an actually body in there. Listen to the words, then watch the video. It's the visual representation of the words.
