I think the 90’s insert probably cost more to produce so the slowly faded out many of them. The sad fact is back in the day very few were considered anything special. During one of my moves, I left a lot of boxes of Skybox cards behind. What a mistake that was!!
I remember so many of these. Only thing missing was the Donruss Studio Credit Card insert. Imaging being an 8 year old and having the passport insert, credit card insert and a player phone card in your first wallet.
Smiled through the whole video. Loved collecting in the 90s. I enjoyed the packaging gimmicks as well. I collected hockey, and Pinnacle Inside had packs inside of collector cans. There was also an Upper Deck set in a Gretzky lunchbox, and Donruss or Leaf had packs inside of collectible player tins. Thanks for sharing the cards, Chris!
One thing about older inserts...they looked great in binders! There was one set where if you lined up the nine cards they looked patterned in the binder sleeve.
Great video. The 1998 Andre Rison has an outrigger canoe on it. I believe the outrigger canoe is symbolic to Hawaiian culture. Thanks for showing these off.
I remember when Chris just got started and he was in the garage with one teensy-weensy microphone hanging down😂 your channel is still awesome. Thanks Chris!
Very cool, love seeing these. Feels like as the years go by, more and more of these will unfortunately be forgotten about. Hopefully there will be some way to keep the cool insert designs prevalent and chase-worthy.
So many cool cards here! Seems like half the crazy designs were done by Pacific. I loved their football cards. Pacific founder Mike Cramer (the "Cramer" from "Cramer's Choice") recently published his autobiography. It's an awesome trip down memory lane for a fun card company. I cannot recommend the book enough for any card collector.
Loved this era, like you said lots of different companies with licenses all competing, I feel like that's what's missing today, there's really no one for Topps to compete with in baseball, Panini in football and basketball and Upper Deck in hockey. They just produce the same old ,same old.
These are really cool. Thanks for sharing Chris. IMO, these are much nicer and original than most of the inserts especially all the silly parallels of today.
Great video. Current prices and current hobby mentality have brought me back to what I grew up on which is 90s inserts. Bought some top loader binders and have been putting together insert progression binders from 1990-2000. They look great, are cheap, and bring me more joy than any $35 blaster. You’re right on the canoe insert btw. It’s a Hawaii pro bowl card with a Hawaiian canoe
A special 90s insert or perhaps creation was the 1991 Topps Desert Shield. I bought one from Chris Sewall off eBay many years ago for $150. It was a Ken Griffey Jr SGC 98. That card has more than doubled in value. Thanks Chris!!!
One of my favorite designs is from 1997 Fair Showcase. It’s the Hot Gloves Greg Maddux. I know they made that series several years but I thought 98 was the most unique.
Thanks for the nostalgia. Some of my favorite unique designs were UD Game Film (movie film), SP Inside Info (pullout minicard), and Fast Track (felt lettering).
Wow, I didn't realize Pacific made their own version of the "pinhole portraits" like the Fusion Metal inserts. I really like those cards. Thanks, Chris!
Cardsupials and the Cheap Seats is what i'm talking about! This shit is meant to be fun. Kudos to the designers. And, kudos to Chris Sewall for sharing
I like the 1998 UD SPx Finite inserts that are numbered with a chunk of metal in the card. They are heavy! Makes me feel like I have more than just a piece of cardboard in my hand. Almost medallion-like.
Wow that really brought me back... I collecte 10:19 d a lot to in the 90s... I just can't afford it anymore... But I still love the hobby and watching content... I figure if I can't afford it I can watch other people that can lol... It's still pretty exciting... Anyway those rare 90s inserts of really good player's like Jordan Shaq Kobe I feel like there were almost as hard to pull if not harder then some of the chase cards now a days... I kid u not I collected from 8 till 14 and I never pull anything rare or worth 100+... I kid u not... I'm mean it was a different time to if ur parents didn't have money it wasn't easy to buy alot of cards with a 5 buck allowance... Kids these days these days... They don't know who good they have it...
You're right about the flag on that Pinnacle Passport card. I had/have a Larry Walker and it had the Canadian flag. Haven't thought of that card in years if not decades!
That was sort of a lost era for me in card collecting. I collected cards up until I went into the Navy, and bought a few packs of 1990 baseball, but thats where it ended for about a 30 year time period. Thanks for sharing these!
Love 1997 Pacific Revolution football. So many of the well known sets of today - like Panini Prizm - were originally Pacific sets. May be an interesting video or set of videos to go over these older card companies that were sold or went bankrupt. And how their products still exist today.
yrsssss the 90s were crazy for inserts. my favorite has always been the 1993 upper deck inserts. they had so many but they were all so freaking gorgeous and on that nice glossy card stock with fun stuff about the players. I also know that if I can't identify something it's probably the 90s
There was an insert that I loved that were called Towers of Power. The card was folded in half and you could open them up for what essentially turned into a double sized card. I think Skybox made them maybe?
I swear every time I first buy a new card I've never heard of, you put a video up featuring said card lol Those Christmas ornaments is a set I just completed during Christmas week! Great stuff Chris!
Pacific had some cool sets. I still have a Griffey EO Portraits I pulled back in the day. I wish more companies could get licensing rights like the 90's. Competition makes for better products.
There were a lot of quirky designs eg silky smooth, big ups, unstoppable, all fold open. 1996 thunder and lightning had two players, with one of the cards being smaller and it would be inserted into the other. Some sets had black protective film over the cards that you wouldn't know exactly what you had without peeling e.g. mystery finest in 95 had 4 players on the back and one would be on the front, you also wouldn't know whether it would be a base or refractor. Plenty of die-cuts and acetate cards, as well as some lenticular.
That Curtis Martin card I have. I thought those cards where really cool. I think they should make a comeout with an auto on it. I brought a box of clear vision box set that was pretty cool
I have not been able to get an ornament graded higher than an 8. They are tougher than most diecuts because of the rope and that the paper stock is on the thin side.
How about the Trade Show exclusive cards? I remember Donruss and Upperdeck had one here in 2000 in Honolulu and gave out autographed cards and sets to dealers. The cards were as low as 1 of 1 and were beautiful.
I love the 90's gimmick cards I still have all my cards stored since then. I have the Frank Thomas Christmas ornaments card it's one of my favorites for sure. The 90's were wild times for sport cards lol, 😎👍💯
In my opinion, inserts were so much cooler than all the color variations and numbered cards of today.
Agreed 💯
I think the 90’s insert probably cost more to produce so the slowly faded out many of them.
The sad fact is back in the day very few were considered anything special. During one of my moves, I left a lot of boxes of Skybox cards behind. What a mistake that was!!
Great trip down memory lane. I loved Pacific and their designs.
How could you not like this era with its innovative designs!
90s inserts are incredibly creative! The triumvirates are amazingly cool! Looking forward to your TH-cam HOF induction speech!
I really miss Skybox and Fleer. Those companies made my favorite sets back in the day.
It wasnt those companies it was the designer Jean of Arena designs and her brother
They had some sweet inserts for that Era. Remember when inserts were all the rage?
Wasn’t skybox cards also reasonable priced when the came out??
Love it, glad I could contribute a few of these to you and you enjoyed it. I love 90s inserts and numbered cards.. wish they were cheaper! -- Brandon
Lots of childhood memories here. Thanks Chris.
One thing about older inserts...they looked great in binders! There was one set where if you lined up the nine cards they looked patterned in the binder sleeve.
So true!
Fleer Provisions?
Great video. The 1998 Andre Rison has an outrigger canoe on it. I believe the outrigger canoe is symbolic to Hawaiian culture. Thanks for showing these off.
Great video Chris, this was the heart of my collecting years. Now that I've started again, the rare 90s inserts are one of the areas I've been buying.
I remember when Chris just got started and he was in the garage with one teensy-weensy microphone hanging down😂 your channel is still awesome. Thanks Chris!
Hah! The tiny mic! I forgot about that.
Thanks for this one... Lots of love for 90s inserts and refractors.
Very cool, love seeing these. Feels like as the years go by, more and more of these will unfortunately be forgotten about. Hopefully there will be some way to keep the cool insert designs prevalent and chase-worthy.
Always cool vids i have the chipper home jersey love the 90's inserts
i cant watch a video like this without immediately going on ebay and looking up cool old mets inserts. these are some of my favorite videos
Thanks for sharing Chris! I collected in the late 90s and have some of these inserts in my collection but over half of them I have never even seen.
Videos like this is why I love this channel!
Awesome video! Time to go back to my dad's collection 🏃♂️🏃♂️
I loved Flair Hot Gloves. Always enjoy a trip back to the 90s.
I have a secret love for pacific lol I just completed the Ornaments insert set
The good old days. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the throwback. And now I feel so very old.
Loved this era, like you said lots of different companies with licenses all competing, I feel like that's what's missing today, there's really no one for Topps to compete with in baseball, Panini in football and basketball and Upper Deck in hockey. They just produce the same old ,same old.
1996-1999 is peak cards. I remember being a huge Pacific fan. They had tons of die cuts and parallels. Fun times as a kid.
I remember loving them until it came time to sleeve them up.
Love it! I have one of those Cheap Seats inserts and I'm glad you had one!
These are really cool. Thanks for sharing Chris. IMO, these are much nicer and original than most of the inserts especially all the silly parallels of today.
My favorite inserts from back then are the 1995 Leaf Statistical Standouts and 1994 Flair Hot Gloves baseball. Way cool ⚾⚾.
Loved both of those!
1995 Leaf Limited Lumberjacks were a fun baseball cards. The fronts are printed on a thin layer of wood.
This was also when I was most into collecting. The best time for inserts!!
Competition breeds innovation unlike what we have today!
Amen!
Great video. Current prices and current hobby mentality have brought me back to what I grew up on which is 90s inserts. I love the 90's inserts. So creative compared to the parallel craze of today. I like the passport one. First ever booklet lol
The dufex cards from pinnacle were great.
I've always loved 90s inserts 👍
A special 90s insert or perhaps creation was the 1991 Topps Desert Shield. I bought one from Chris Sewall off eBay many years ago for $150. It was a Ken Griffey Jr SGC 98. That card has more than doubled in value. Thanks Chris!!!

90s inserts is my jam
Thanks for fun walk down memory lane!
I just enjoy watching you talk about cards in general you have a great vibe and so much knowledge thanks for the content
Lenticular is the word you were looking for, I loved those cards. Thx for the video 🎉
Great memories from seeing these cards. Oh where did time go.
Late 90's inserts were wild for the TIMES.. Good Stuff, Nastalgia all around!!!
Love the Piazza!
I like the 1998 UD SPx Finite inserts that are numbered with a chunk of metal in the card. They are heavy! Makes me feel like I have more than just a piece of cardboard in my hand. Almost medallion-like.
Great, interesting video! Love all the details
Football pro bowl inserts are wild die cuts. Check out 1996 Pacific. how does anyone gets those high grade?
Wow that really brought me back... I collecte 10:19 d a lot to in the 90s... I just can't afford it anymore... But I still love the hobby and watching content... I figure if I can't afford it I can watch other people that can lol... It's still pretty exciting... 1997 & 1998 Bowman Chrome International Refractors were great!
Those planet metals are some of the coolest cards out there
You're right about the flag on that Pinnacle Passport card. I had/have a Larry Walker and it had the Canadian flag. Haven't thought of that card in years if not decades!
It would be fun to send that ornament in for grading
That was sort of a lost era for me in card collecting. I collected cards up until I went into the Navy, and bought a few packs of 1990 baseball, but thats where it ended for about a 30 year time period. Thanks for sharing these!
Those were some really cool cards
It’s true art and creativity. We peaked as a species in like 1999 .. apparent here
Love 1997 Pacific Revolution football. So many of the well known sets of today - like Panini Prizm - were originally Pacific sets.
May be an interesting video or set of videos to go over these older card companies that were sold or went bankrupt. And how their products still exist today.
Pacific was the absolute zaniest and I loved them. I had a Moss wreath ornament and a Barry Sanders tree shape ornament lol
Very cool inserts …I didn’t collect during this period…thx Chris I have my eye on a couple now!
Crazy cool cards from the 90’s I remember it well 👀🤣😂
Thanks for sharing and documenting the hobby
1996'97 eX2000 A Cut Above inserts have always been 🔥
Fun video Chris!! Yeah not so much as a canoe and more like a Hawaiian OUTRIGGER..😎
The first die cut cards I remember was 1993 SP. The Platinum Power was a cool design.
I believe that was very first die-cut set!
@collectorinvestordealer The 30 year ago 12 year old self remembers it like it was yesterday
Fleer EX Bright lights are my favorite
yrsssss the 90s were crazy for inserts. my favorite has always been the 1993 upper deck inserts. they had so many but they were all so freaking gorgeous and on that nice glossy card stock with fun stuff about the players.
I also know that if I can't identify something it's probably the 90s
I LOVED the 1993 UD inserts
Two that come to mind are Topps Lasers it was a crazy die cut that was a flame. And also Leaf Slideshow, was a photo slide as part of the card.
There was an insert that I loved that were called Towers of Power. The card was folded in half and you could open them up for what essentially turned into a double sized card. I think Skybox made them maybe?
😂 1997 International Refrractooooor. Never change Chris!
From looking at the 97 Bullets roster, my guess is the other two cards to go with the Juwan Howard are Ben Wallace and Chris Webber.
90's inserts were pretty awesome.
Upper Deck SPX had some really nice holograms on some of their cards. I don’t know why holograms aren’t used any more.
I swear every time I first buy a new card I've never heard of, you put a video up featuring said card lol Those Christmas ornaments is a set I just completed during Christmas week! Great stuff Chris!
Pacific always had cool looking inserts
I have that same motion McGwire card.Thats a keeper🤙
Man I love your videos
Pacific had some cool sets. I still have a Griffey EO Portraits I pulled back in the day. I wish more companies could get licensing rights like the 90's. Competition makes for better products.
Love the key ingredient cards I’m trying to complete the gold set
90s inserts are undefeated some of the weirdest but the best lol
Great video as usual Chris!!!

0:01 if you had the option to buy out the entire store in the photo, today… but you had to pay full price for it all. Buy or Pass?
Pass
Have you ever seen the skybox SkyMotion cards. I think it was football only. Same idea as the stadium club. But skymotion was 1996 i believe.
Yeah I remember those!
Love it
I like classic. They had lps numbered to 65k or something. Makes you wonder how many of the base cards were produced.
The golden age for basketball cards
Awesome
I remember tossing a lot of inserts as a kid because they weren't base cards 😢
Love those ornament cards. I got a Peyton manning ornament card. Awesome card. You’re right about them being destroyed. Hard to find.
That Curtis Martin card I have. I thought those cards where really cool. I think they should make a comeout with an auto on it. I brought a box of clear vision box set that was pretty cool
interesting cards
I have not been able to get an ornament graded higher than an 8. They are tougher than most diecuts because of the rope and that the paper stock is on the thin side.
Memory Lane
How about the Trade Show exclusive cards? I remember Donruss and Upperdeck had one here in 2000 in Honolulu and gave out autographed cards and sets to dealers. The cards were as low as 1 of 1 and were beautiful.
Who produced the first inserts? 1991 Action Packed football 24kt cards?
Gimmie skybox and fleer any day Over most today's inserts
I love the 90's gimmick cards I still have all my cards stored since then. I have the Frank Thomas Christmas ornaments card it's one of my favorites for sure. The 90's were wild times for sport cards lol, 😎👍💯
1999 finest leading indicators. You press your finger on the card and heat reveals their stats
