  • We repair a set of the famous Criterion 444 speakers that were made in Japan and sold by Lafayette Radio in 1974. We review the detailed story of the product and of Lafayette Radio itself. Then we dive inside the box to find out why there is no output on the super-tweeter. A few minutes of diagnosis, soldering, and we then test & measure the speakers to see how they perform. This video shows how to do it all!!!

We probably couldn't hear the difference had you played them over this media, but before and after test would've been cool

Yes, I agree. It is hard to slow down and be mythodical sometimes. I need to make sure to do that kind of step in future videos. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Those were my first "real" speakers.

Hopefully the video brought back some pleasant memories of that timeframe. They are still a nice set of real speakers anyone would want. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I worked at the Lafayette store in Syosset while in college up the road. Great place.

I might have left that 6.8 capacitor alone. Or upgrade the caps a bit .,
And I think I’ve gotten Mylar film capacitors for under a dollar on clearance at madisound.
Just saying., you put so much time into it., might as well invest a couple bucks also.
    Keep up the good work.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for watching and for your comment Steve. There is so much to learn about this hobby.
