  • Welcome to Los Angeles! We have some great footage of public transit from our neighbors down south, starting with a full journey on Metro's E (Expo) line from 7th Street/Metro Center in Downtown LA to a few blocks from the famous pier in Downtown Santa Monica
The Expo Line travels from 7th St/Metro Center in Downtown to Santa Monica station. It is one of Metro's busiest lines and is one of the few rail lines in the United States that travels to a beach.
The line originally operated only as far as Culver City from its opening date in 2012 until 2016, when it was extended all the way to Santa Monica.
The line was officially renamed the E line in 2019, when Metro began using letters to refer to its rail lines. Expo is still a very popular moniker, however.
Beginning in 2022, the Expo Line will merge with the L (Gold) Line, with trains running from Santa Monica to East LA once the downtown regional connector is complete.

Nice. Great footage and vantage point riding to Santa Monica. Just wish LA Metro would have elevated the tracks to run straight without traffic stops.

Too expensive. If they had done that it still wouldn't be in Santa Monica. It probably would have only made it to Culver City because of the lack of funds. There are many projects in line to receive funds on a set schedule.
Remember, this metro system is funded through yearly sales taxes and that does vary from year to year. The more money they give one project, the less money another project gets or the next project gets delayed. It's a comprised design with some grade separations.
