- In this video, Dad talks about using the Great Plains No Till Drill on our food plots. He goes on to explain what we did going into year 3 and fall plans. We used a different approach of terminating the grass. You will see a crimper and sickle bar mower on a Kubota 5800. Hopefully you guys have some information to share and or learn something from us.

The grownup field looks good for fawning and turkey nesting cover. I like to leave my fields standing until time to plant fall plots. At that time I bush hog them after planting. However, I don’t plant summer plots in them.
What about planting a few fields in straight clover and then drill elbon in the fall after the clover gets established?
We have separate clover fields, in all locations we have a video called 3 in 1 food plots. Also, there is a new video on how these plots did this video is on.

I am the beginning stages of doing exactly what you are doing. Genesis 5 no till drill. Field is empty right now. I am thinking of planting buckwheat and before it matures plant the fall release blend in September, then crimping the BW
I am not sold on the releases just yet, my summer one is crazy thick and ugly!! Not sure how my fall will drill through it.
How much success in your food plot do you attribute to your sprinklers? How often have you had to supplement nature's rain (or lack of rain)? Here in SC, with sandy soils and often less than 1" of rain in summer months, it might be more sense spending the $$ trying to irrigate rather than in No-Till equipment.
None, haven't even used them but last fall for a bit. Only use them at the start of the fall if it is really dry and last year was the first. I only did it for a week or so
Is the crimper necessary if your cutting and laying it over with the sickle?
I did both, I am not sure what is best, I have not gotten the results I wanted yet
Thank you for the information, i would love to know what setting you calibrations came out too on the Landpride 606nt at such as seed cups, gear box and setting for spring release and fall release? The sickle bar is a great idea, i actually think i like that better than buying a crimper and rolling it all down. Keep up the videos, i would love to see one showing how to calibrate the drill properly?
The sickle laid it down but it came back, might should spray to terminate then lay it down. I have never calibrated the drill, I see no need for a food plot, I go by the book that comes with it and so far everything I have planted looks great. Sorry for the very late reply
Appreciate the video! I was thinking about buying the exact same blend from greencover next year and renting a very similar Great Plains drill from the NRCS department. I was wondering if you had any problems with drilling all the various seed sizes in that blend. Also wondering which slot you used for the press wheels when planting this blend
Just a little to add to my questions. I actually just bought a crimper this spring I broadcast seed in May into a great stand of winter rye planted in the fall of 2022 and then crimped, but ran into the exact same problem you did with an ugly food plot full of weeds. I had the exact same drought problem as well. I ended up mowing, tilling up and broadcasting winter rye and oats into a few weeks ago which has came up well, but desperately needing rain again.
@@elfrinksm I honestly can't remember, each hole represents 1/8" deep that I recall, so around the middle
@@elfrinksm This is why we are switching to clearfield round up ready forage soy beans for a summer crop next year so we can spray them

None at all. We love the MX6000
