I love this series. You are totally right, that gnawing feeling that I get over the things I really need to get done gives me really high anxiety. I crinnnnge at my "daunting tasks". My life is so busy lately, and I REALLY needed to hear this, because I have been putting off some majorly important tasks, because they simply give me anxiety. I have a list of them written down...and hidden. I know they're there, but out of sight, out of mind right? They're not writing related tasks, just life and business. But your habits and tips for tackling them is much needed. Thanks for sharing.

I always wondered why I couldn't write that much at night. Now I understand why all other writers write first thing in the morning. Thank you!

It's always a sad time when her videos end! She is such an inspiration and I can't wait to start implementing this fantastic habit! I have succesfully started using her previous one and it's amazing!

Hmm. I’m always chasing the children around first thing, but I wonder if I could do something in the mornings, even if just sorting my bullet journal.

Kristen, I talk to my counseling clients about this and while “creative energy” sounds much more professional, we talk about “eating the crust first”. Most kids don’t like the crust but have to clean their plates so we talk about “eating” the least favorite things first and then you can really enjoy the things you actually want. :)
And as with everything, now I have to put into practice those things that I recommend! It just makes sense to use your energy on the most dreaded tasks because if you leave it to the end it won’t get done!
Thanks again for another great video!

This video spoke to me so much! I finished my first draft ages ago, but can't seem to find the will to edit it... This "creative fuel" idea and doing it it the morning while I still have energy is great. I will definitely try to do it!

The part about doing your most important tasks in the morning really resonated with me, and it’s one of the secrets to my success. Love your videos and glad that your hiatus was productive for you!

I decided to give NanoWrimo a try again, after a horrible unprepared experience that left me not writing for almost a year. I started by getting up at 6 am (as our beloved Kristen Martin says - Do stuff in the morning for a productive day!), I prepared a bullet journal (as per advice from my favourite vlogster Kristen again) and guess what. Day 1: not even tired in the morning, no crash during the day and I wrote more words than my goal was! :) We've got this, guys! (and thanks so much Kristen, you're an absolute gem!)

I totally need to make my mornings more productive! I hate getting up early and night is when I'm the most creative but I totally agree that editing and proofreading are morning tasks, tired eyes always fail to catch misspelled words :/
Thanks again for this video Kristen, I'm loving your new videos :)

I really want to implement this habit and I will try to do this, but not everyday. With my internship which is either in the morning from 7-12 or evening 19-23, waking up earlier than I usually do sounds horrible XD So I will probably twist this a bit so it can fit my schedule and look at the things I have to do on a day and place the ones which use the most brainpower first.

I've been wanting to get up earlier in order to work out or write for the longest time! Forming that habit is tricky, but I'm sure I'll be in love with that schedule once I've nailed it down :)

I really struggle with mornings- my brain takes a while to switch on. So I've taken to a similar (but very different) approach. My mornings are for slowly waking up, and getting in a positive head space. As the day progresses and I am more awake, I move onto the "big" thing. As soon as I am "awake" I make sure to work on the biggest/hardest thing first, to make the most of my cognitive/creative energy, before moving on to the "easy" stuff. It is so much easier to tackle your to do list when you're not "dreading" that ONE thing.

  • @LadyofAurora

Such great advice! Thank you :-). I'm not really a morning person, however I hate wasting the day and I agree it's better to get the more taxing jobs done first as not only do they get done, you feel so productive! If you get a chance to read this, I'd like to ask you how you you managed your day job tasks along with your writing. I've seen your video on your day to day organisation with your day job, but in terms of energy that your day job takes up, how did you manage to get a balance? Mine is very demanding and I find it hard to move onto something more time consuming (though much more interesting!) like my writing afterwards. I know I need to find a way somehow (& the aim is to leave the job eventually), but any tips would be gratefully received! Thanks. X

I really need to get into a morning routine that involves me getting out of bed before noon. I think if I can do one hour of reading and one hour of writing first thing in the morning I will feel better about taking the evenings off once I'm too tired to think. Especially with my new online college course starting next Tuesday, I really need to be more productive.
Can't wait to see photos/videos from your travels. Have a great trip!

I used to get up early to write but it's been hard since my aunt moved into a smaller house (I'm her live-in babysitter during the week)
I sleep in the same room as the kids so it's hard to get up at 5am since I can't set an alarm anymore. I really like waking up early to write, though I'm more of a night writer too!
